Obviously we knew there would not likely be turtles in April. But having been to Tortuguero we now ask why travel hours by bus and boat to this resort in their off season? We used an US travel agency, Adventures Within Reach, to arrange our family trip. Originally we were booked into Pachira Lodge but Mawamba was willing to guarantee...

Great experience start to finish - the food is amazing - collection was really easy from our hotel in San Jose to bus then boat to mawamba. We had a lovely guide Juan, a complete star. Really suitable trip for people who want a relaxed visit or for families. Surrounded by nature - iguana, howler monkeys, crocs, sloths, too many...

This is an adorable, little hotel in a remote area only delivered there by boat. A nice buffet, warm pool and lovely garden landscape. It's right between the canal and the beach. We saw several monkeys and sloths on the property. The guides and staff were fantastic! Knowledgeable and seemed liked they loved what they did, not just a job...

Situated both on the canal system and Caribbean Sea this lodge is reached by boat and worth staying for the stunning grounds with extensive wildlife. On arrival 2 sloths were on the move (a rarity and slow) in one of the trees and several huge iguana were sunbathing on the grass and in the trees. Several species of frog including...

We just spent 3+ days in Mawamba Lodge. We had a wonderful final leg of our vacatin that enjoying tons of wildlife on the property and off, access to both the canal and the sea, and very good food. Tortuguero is very isolated and half way back to San Jose we realized we'd left not only our passports but also...

We decided to include tortuguerro in our Costa Rica adventure for its canals and unusual location. We didn't realize how close we would be to all kinds of creatures. Mawamba Lodge was truly amazing in its proximity to nature. At the lodge about 50 steps outside our room we saw a Sloth right there on the ground trying to make...

We spent 3 nights at Mawamba Lodge and loved it's rustic, peaceful charm. Especially the 1 hour boat trip to get to and from Tortuguero, giving a sense of how off the beaten track it is. Mawamba is definitely a place to visit. It is a Lodge, not a hotel so there is no A/C, or TV but there is...

This hotel was very nice but basic as you may expect from something called a lodge. It was more than adequate with a great shower and comfy beds but no tv or telephone which I was happy about. The tours that we undertook from here were all great.

We did a two night stay at Mawamba Lodge. Were picked up at our San Jose hotel and rode in a comfortable bus coach to a town on a river, and then proceeded to Mawamba by boat. Our guide, Leo Jones, was fantastic. Knowledgeable about history, agriculture, and incredible at spotting wildlife. My kids adored him. Mawamba is the only...
