My wife and I stayed here as part of a tour of Costa Rica. The 'Manatus Lodge' property is only accessible by motor boat and consists of a reception office, restaurant and 12 separate 'lodges. There is a covered walkway linking all of the lodges to the lagoon jetty, office and restaurant. Each lodge has very efficient air conditioning and...

I loved this small little resort with 20 rooms. Sergio was there to greet us when we arrived with a cool fruit drink and cold rag for our necks and face. The boat ride there is refreshing and enjoyable especially for us birders. The rooms beds were the most comfortable in any of the places we stayed and the TV...

We stayed for 2 nights as part of a Costa Rica tour - this was a superior upgrade. The hotel can only be accessed by boat, which was a delight, not a problem. it is 5 minutes from the village of Tortuguera on the lagoon and surrounded by jungle. The staff, including the manager who is also one of the...

Manatus Lodge was our first stop on our tour of Costa Rica. The journey to the lodge from pick up in San Jose to the transfer onto the lodge boat and journey down the river to Manatus was a great introduction to the area. The individual lodges are quite dark and simply fiurnished but we spent very little time in...

Second place we visited on our CR adventure and after nearly a 3 1/2 road trip from Santa Barbara near the capital we got to the dock. The boat trip took an hour and a half. We were met by Luis one of the guides who gave us a lot of information on the journey. When we arrived we were...

The transfers both ways with very smoothly managed and we had breakfast on the way and then unexpected lunch on the way back excellent restaurant., all included in the price. It was a wonderful ride to the hotel with animals and birds being pointed out on the way....

Finding Manatus Hotel was a real boon. Small in size but big in atmosphere, comfort, friendliness and facilities, it provided, for us, perfect access to Tortuguero’s fabled waterways away from the crowds which they now, understandably, attract. The Hotel’s boats were small, clean and comfortable and, having 4 stroke outboards, were quite quiet also. The (big) bonus was that the...

We spent 2 nights here - unfortunately the weather wasn't great, a bit overcast and some rain but when the sun came out there is a very pleasant small swimming pool. The food was good, especially the tuna and the drinks were reasonably priced - good margaritas. The rooms are quite basic but comfortable and clean. The boat trips which...

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Manatus. Everything was great: the food, service, tours, transfers, drinks, lodging and the grounds. We had a mother sloth and her baby outside her cabin and watching them was a highlight of our trip. The wifi was weak in the rooms but worked well in the office. We were always a small group in...

The Manatus is beautifully located and looked after by a charming staff and very attentive owner/director. The guides, Adrian and Luis, were exceptional in their knowledge and wildlife spotting abilities. The much smaller boats than the other lodges, sitting only 2 rather than 4 abreast, made for much better wildlife viewing and photography. All meals were included, given the hotel's...
