We stayed at Blue Jay Lodge for a couple of nights in June and had a pleasant experience. The bungalow we stayed in felt like being in a treehouse as it had a large deck sticking out into the forest. The walls were open- floor to ceiling netting and curtains for privacy; so this is not the place to come...

A nice place, we found 2 frogs on our room. Comfy cabin, clean and we had a lovely view to the ocean. It seems that their pool is not available 24/7 which is a real bummer for my opinion :/ we were at the pool around 9.30 pm and the lights just went completely off without any notice. The breakfast...

So affordable. An amazing view open net walls with howler monkeys and iguanas all around you. Such a quiet beautiful place. Great balcony you can see the see. 5-10 minute walk to the beach. Lovely people. I just loved this place. The area and beach were my favorite in all of Costa Rica and this was my favorite place there.

Amazing bungalows with spectacular sunset views. Comfortable beds, hammocks lovely. Didn't feel too welcome in terms of service, particularly at breakfast and when asking questions. Definitely felt in the way. Very, very hot in Mal Pais so would recommend that Blue Jays either put 2 extra fans in each room, or even a fridge. The kitchen/reception/pool is quite a hike...

We simply loved our bungalow! The simple open air architectur is great! The lights is entering the very spaciois room giving a feeling of beeing outdoor. Great terrace with view of the sunset, lovely hosts, nature all around! The perfect stay!

My sister and I visited in rainy season and were the only guests there, enjoyed a fabulous bungalow with ocean views and relaxing hammocks. The only drawback to low season is lots of the town was closed. We practical had it to ourselves. The owner herself is sweet, speaks great English, and was incredibly helpful. We took a private boat...

The reviews of this place had me a little apprehensive. But my experience was excellent. This place is a solid 10 minute walk to the little town near Playa Del Carmen beach, but I rented a bike and that made it very easy. There is no dinner served here, so you have to travel out at night to get food....

Spent 1 night at this place. The cabins are very nice especially for the price, but the morning manager, an older married guy, started hitting on me as I checked out, asking me for a "goodbye kiss" and pulling me into an unwelcome embrace. When I confronted him, he apologized to my husband (not me) and swore he'd never do...

The Blue Jay lodge offers a great place with a great view, and for a reasonably cheap rate at $60/night, it is fair. Although the stairs leading up to the rooms can be steep and lengthy to climb on a full stomach. But it still is a good place to stay for the price. There are beach access within a...

Run by a lovely Costa Rican family (values statement - everywhere else I stayed was expat owned, I think). 2 minute walk to the ocean, located on the hillside with the jungle. You are in nature here. You will have surprise visitors in and around your cabin. It becomes fascinating but also mandates you be an outdoors enthusiast to stay...
