we spent 5 days in Montezuma, and once we discovered Clandestina - we ate 4 meals at this place. The food was honestly the best we had in Costa Rica, and as a beer brewer from the west coast of USA - the beer was top notch. The lemon grass pale ale was excellent - and a huge relief after...

We spent 2 nights in the hotel overlooking the butterfly garden. The room was clean, and had a beautiful view of the sun rise. Staff were very friendly, wise, and spoke great English. Breakfast was freshly cooked and changed a bit each morning. The best time to walk to/from the beach was early/late day because with the heat and the...

Loved it at Mariposario - all the staff were so friendly and helpful. Within 10 minutes of arriving we were introduced to the butterflies themselves and the gorgeous dogs who live there. Only disappointment was they had run out of the famous beer brewed on site because of a really busy November, one of the main reasons we came. However...

We are so happy you enjoyed you stay with us and so sorry we did not have any of our beers available. The next batch of our Earthquake IPA and Sam's Cream Ale will be ready December 11th. Due to high demand we are trying to double our batch size so we don't run out again!!

We spent 3 nights in the Morpho room which is super cute with the monkey shower curtain and the blue and brown decor. Our room had a small balcony with a view of the butterfly park. In the morning we would see monkeys and all sorts of birds and at night we would see fireflies. I loved all the animals...

We loved this place. The food and beer was delicious and the on-site restaurant had a buzz about it in the evening. The staff were really friendly and helpful in booking our transfer to Manuel Antonio. The location is beautiful - one day we were having a beer and a troop of monkeys just appeared in the trees nearby, amazing!...

The rooms at hotel mariposario clean, cool and comfortable. This B&B offered free clean and well kept rooms, as well as a awesome view of the jungle. It was located a little bit of a walk outside of the town ( up the hills aways) but it was nice quiet. The breakfast was different every morning, and the restaurant( Clandestine)...

My wife and I have stayed at Montezuma Gardens several times, and it has always been a pleasure. We've watched the Gardens grow from a small, well-run B&B with an amazing butterfly garden, through the addition of Ryan's craft brewery, and more recently of the Clandestina Restaurant, always with the same sense of Pura Vida. I had driven many hours...

The Mariposario B&B (MB&B) is a remote respite from the hustle and bustle of San José. Located on the eastern side of the peninsula across the bay from Puntarenas and Jacó on the mainland, Montezuma is a beachcomber's delight: small yet full of most if not all of the amenities you may want. The MB&B has two gems that tourists...

Great place to stay run by super friendly ex-pats (from Portland, OR). We enjoyed the brewery, the restaurant (Clandestina) and the room/balcony very much. One day we even had some Howler monkeys join us for a beer :) I would stay at this place again and again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Mariposario Montezuma Gardens and Butterfly Brewing Co. A lovely B&B, micro-brewery, butterfly garden, bar and restaurant in the jungle. We are located 1.6 km from Montezuma center at the entrance to the upper waterfall trail. The location is not right in town but in a tranquil area surrounded by mountain jungle. The road to the Mariposario is very steep but you do not need a 4x4 car to arrive here. ... more   less
