This is our second 8 night stay, this year, at the Sleep Inn Paseo las Damas. Until today, we have had nothing but praise for this Hotel. Today my wife was abused by security and the guard demanded to wand and frisk (grope) her going from our room to the restaurant. The photos show THREE layers of concertina/razor wire on the property...the pictures say it all. Be careful here; but, we recommend looking elsewhere.
Stayed here for 3 nights. Had a twin room. Bed was comfortable. Aircon was good. Bathroom was nice and shower pressure was good. Breakfast was included and was really nice. This hotel had a laundry room where you could wash and dry your own clothes for €1 for the washing machine and €1 for the dryer. This hotel is within walking distance of downtown San Jose and also Barrio Escalante which has lots of lovely restaurants. Would definitely stay here again.
Stayed at this hotel for a few days exploring in San Jose - good location for exploring in the day but would not walk around the area at night. The hotel itself was very clean and the room spacious and comfortable. The staff were helpful for advice and booking taxis. Very good cheaper option in San Jose.
What a great value! Very walkable to all the downtown attractions and lots of restaurants! The hotel was very clean with a great breakfast, which was included with the cost if your room. The hotel breakfast staff were wonderful! Very friendly and helpful with great service. The property is very safe and secure with a fenced parking lot and 24 hour security. Lots of San José Polce presence downtown, so enjoy walking the city. Just be smart about it and aware of your surroundings. There is a 24 hour restaurant, which was good, and casino on property. Word of advice.... Be cautious when asking the front desk to arrange transportation. They were going to arrange transportation that was going to cost $110 USD (round-trip) for a 20 minute ride to an attraction. I declined and used Uber for $14 USD (round-trip). Uber is very safe and affordable! Definitely use Uber in San Jose, it will save you tons of money. I'm not sure why the front desk didn't make that recommendation, but rather chose to arrange a very costly option. I also note that the front desk is only staffed limited hours. Overall a 4-star rating. Definitely recommend staying here! …
We've been to CR many times and stayed at the finest properties. Trust me THIS IS THE PACE TO BE. Gated property with super clean room and facilities; casino and 7X24 hr restaurant and bar (exceptional menu and prices). Centrally located and close to EVERYTHING..great views...etc... and not last or least, The staff is friendly, super helpful. GREAT breakfast buffet.
We stayed at this hotel for two nights upon our arrival in Costa Rica. The location of this hotel in San Jose is excellent, within walking distance of many downtown tourist attractions. We explored the shops and cafes on Central Avenue. No cars are allowed on Central Avenue (automobile traffic is allowed on cross streets so you still must watch out when crossing streets). The shops and the street vendors gave us a wonderful opportunity to interact with the locals who throng downtown area during the day for shopping and hanging out in parks & plazas. There are several cafes on central avenue where you can get a great view of the people and the activities from upper floors. We also checked out the central market (Mercado Central) for its food stalls, medicinal shops, fish market and many more necessities for locals. The central market is closed on Sundays. Be aware that downtown is not the nicest area of San Jose and empties out in the evenings. Sleep Inn organized our airport pickup when we landed in Costa Rica for thirty US dollars. The hotel driver spoke decent English and provided us with a running commentary about the city as we traveled through the city to the hotel. It took us about 45 minutes mid-day to get to the hotel from the airport. Taxis will charge about 25 dollars (they accept dollars) from the airport, and you will be mobbed by taxi drivers as you exit the airport. The service at the hotel is good and everyone we encountered was very helpful. At the reception desk, they spoke good English and handled our check-in and checkout smoothly. The room and the amenities are decent, not luxurious. This is not a luxury hotel. We spent minimal time in the room and had no complaints with any aspect of the rooms during our stay. Our reservation included breakfast, and they have a nice eating area for the buffet. The breakfast choices, while fewer than we are used to, included the typical items expected in a breakfast buffet. We liked their breakfast overall. There is a casino adjacent to the hotel, on the same property. Th casino has a full-service restaurant, Magnolia. We had dinner in that restaurant on one night and liked their food and the service. We did not spend any time on the casino games. The casino will change dollars to local currency and their exchange rate was reasonable (exchange rate at the airport is very unfavorable). We explored downtown San Jose for a full day, all by walking around, and the location of this hotel is very convenient.…
My first stay at this hotel and I was very pleased. The receptionist checked me in quickly and gave me a spacious bedroom which was spotless. Even the carpet was clean which is a rarity in San Jose. My room had good A/C, mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The bathroom was spotless, modern and equipped wiuth several amenities. Despite other reports of a hard bed, mine was firm but comfortable. Good quality bedding. The cable TV was only limited to Spanish language channels but this seems to be the norm in Costa Rica as a whole. The security on the site is very good. High walls, and large gates circle the property. Generally the guards are very prompt in opening the gates but once or twice I had to whistle to get their attention late at night. Breakfast was not fantastic but more than adequate to get you going for the day. With Covid protocols, they serve you either eggs or waffles but they have lots of extras like empanadas, fresh fruit, yougurt, and cheeze, and lots of excellent coffee. The restaurant staff were extremely pleasant and anxious to please their guests. The location is good if you want to be downtown , and there are a few cafes, and bars in close proximity. There was only one issue with my reservation. Their web site stated check-in was from 2 pm to 6 pm and i had a late flight arrival. I tried many times to email the hotel to advise them of my late arrival but I received no response. But when i arrived, it was absolutely not an issue as the guards let me in, and the reception was staffed. It just provided me with an little unneeded anxiety. I will definately come back to the Sleep Inn for my next stay…
I needed a centrally located hotel as I had a lot to do in a two day stay. Searching online, this hotel fitted the bill perfectly, so I booked a double room. The check in was easy and the reception staff were friendly and helpful. That held true with the restaurant staff and the maids. The room was spacious enough with a good sized work area, t.v. fridge, microwave and coffee -making equipment. The bathroom was large with a bath and shower. Everything was spotless. The beds were large, comfortable and clean. The breakfast was one of the best I have experienced in terms of quality and choice. The location is in a safe and quiet area just a few blocks from the centre of town which is exactly what I wanted as was visiting on a shopping trip. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel for anyone needing a short or long stay in the capital at a reasonable price.…
The hotel is nicely located in the downtown. Walking distance to everything. Just keep in mind ( if you are visiting for the first time) that the Downtown is not the nicest area of San Jose :) The taxi was 25 dollars from the Airport, the drivers are meeting you outside, they accept dollars. No Uber at the Airport at arrival, but you can get Uber for departure (about $15 from the hotel). Time to the airpot is about 20 min at night (no traffic), and 50 - 60 min during the daytime (traffic). We arrived at night (like 3 am) and they were waiting for us. However, I wrote them a message before warning them about late arrival. The service is very good, everyone was very helpful. Nice detail, they have a FREE printer downstairs which you can use to print out your visas or covid tests, if you need them for future traveling. The breakfast was ok. I'll give it a 3 from 1 to 5. Doable, but nothing special. However, their rice with beans is very good :) Not a big choice for vegetarians, but they give you some local fruits. There is a good western-style supermarket (Auto Mercado), just 2-3 blocks away with a nice selection of wines, and some American foods. 2 nice local bars just outside the corner, from the park side (a sport bar and a dive bar). The hotel has a restaurant with a relatively good selection of food, you can order in the room. There is also a casino on the same property (we didn't visit it). The room has a large safe, which can fit a small laptop. The rooms are nice, but slightly worn out. There is a TV, but NOT smart TV. Overall it was clean. The mattresses were firm, if this is a problem for you. The only problem for me were the pillows and sheets, which were polyester. You can not have polyester sheets if you have 4 stars drawn on the entrance :) And the pillows were TERRIBLE. I've stayed in over 100 hotels in my life ( from 1 to 5 stars) and these were probably the worst pillows I've seen. The pillowcases were made of thick polyester cases, which seems like PET. And the pillows themselves seemed like large flat yoga bricks :) So I give 4 stars, not 5 just because of the bedding. If you can sleep on polyester sheets without pillows, I would probably still recommend this hotel :)…
The hotel is a pretty standard city center hotel (classic). 24/7 security. Location is close to most everything in the city center. The service is outstanding! Very friendly staff who are able to make you feel safe and give some tips about local restaurants and things to see. The rooms are large with a wonderful shower, good and stable Wi-Fi in the room and in public areas (very important as I had to work remotely +calls), coffee machine, fridge, TV, microwave (did not use it during 2 weeks of my stay), safe, iron +board, air conditioning. Beds were comfortable with firm mattress and each bed has 3 pillows which is enough to satisfy your neck)) Non-allergic pillows and non-smoking room made my stay very comfortable. The breakfast is made to order. Despite of modest variety of meals I found it excellent (simple and nutritious) together with toasts, waffle and dark roasted coffee. Due to quarantine restrictions all stores, cafe, restaurants, shops close at 8-9pm. Happy with my choice for this trip!…
