Staying at the Roadhouse is a true Alaskan experience. The rooms all have quirks, and you share a bathroom with your hallmates, but it's a perfect place to stay. The best part is after 10 or 11, when the bakery side of the Roadhouse closes down and the employees go home. You can rest and relax on the couches, and...

We had lunch at this Roadhouse. The food was really good comfort food and plentiful. We sat with other people from all different places at long bench tables and it was great to speak with them, it was almost like talking with long lost family. Highly recommended.

Had a short stay in the Roadhouse's off-site Trapper John's Cabin. A charming and authentic yet renovated log cabin. Within walking distance of the main street in Talkeetna, close to restaurants yet secluded and private. The cabin was spacious and well appointed, the kitchen and bathroom both had supplies. We had plenty of hot water and towels. There's even a...

I loved the green chili/ egg bake. Husband devoured the reindeer sausage. The banana/blueberry pancakes are tasty. Friendly staff. Prices moderate but worth it. Fun, fun. You should try this place. Pastures look awesome but I was too full from the meal.

We stayed in the apartment above the museum on 5/24/17. Very spacious with a full kitchen. It really has an Alaskan feel. There is no live TV but there are plenty of tapes and DVDs to watch. Trisha picked us up at depot and gave us a nice tour of the town. I highly recommend the Roadhouse.

We stayed in the lil' cabin in the back which is basically a big room and an upper 2 beds It can fit around 5 pax max. The whole place is great, atmosphere is cozy and a perfect place to hear about the latest news on Denali climbing.

Delicious quiche, friendly servers, good coffee, what more could you ask for? Sit at a table, sort of family style and enjoy your meal! The quiche is made in house. Crust is flaky and plenty of filling. About 2" thick! The breakfast wrap was also good with plenty of bacon & cheese. Be sure to get a razzy, raspberry cinnamon...

Stopped in a warm summers day and had us a simple breakfast. But it was the baked goods that we really stopped in for. Numerous selections and the locals as well as visitors couldn't wait to get some.

Upon arriving not too early or too late for the staff to be tired, we were greeted by an employee who could not even crack a smile or say good morning. They were sick of tourists, and give a format speech about how the menu works and where the utensils were located, which are on the table, as if people...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Roadhouse, built around 1917, is one of the oldest establishments still in operation on Main Street in "Beautiful Downtown Talkeetna." Our kitchen is open to the public and we've become famous for big breakfasts, hearty soups, homebaked breads and genuine frontier hospitality. Our bakery produces all sorts of treats each day such as pies, a variety of cinnamon rolls, cookies, cakes, brownies, and savory pasties. The historic end-of-the-road town of Talkeetna is known today throughout the world as the base for international climbers making their way to climb Denali (Mt. McKinley), North America's tallest peak. Denali and the other peaks of the Alaska Range offer a magnificent backdrop for this picturesque town of around 800 people, located about two and a half hours north of Anchorage and halfway between Anchorage and Denali park entrance both by rail and road. The guest rooms range from private to hostel-style, rustic cabins to the school teacher's apartment located above the Talkeetna Historical Society Museum. Bathrooms are "down the hall" in typical Roadhouse fashion, and even though a bathroom has been added to Trapper John's Cabin, guests can still use its 5-Star outhouse! Breakfast is a separate charge but we provide our guests with coffee/cocoa/tea throughout their stay. ... more   less
