This was our fourth visit to the Four Seasons Bora Bora since we first stayed there the year of its opening in 2008. Once again we returned with our 2 children. It was a magical experience. We have travelled far and wide, including to other Four Seasons properties. This is a 5-star property where the people really make a difference. The Four Seasons Bora Bora remains our favorite Four Seasons destination, and the best for total rest and relaxation. There’s a reason Bora Bora is regularly named one of the most beautiful islands in the world. One never gets used to the stunning views of Bora Bora’s lagoon set against the stunning Mount Otemanu. The sunsets here are unlike anything we have experienced elsewhere. From the unique layout featuring individual private overwater bungalows that provide the ultimate in luxury, to the smaller lagoons with their coral reefs teaming with exotic fish and plant life to explore, to the immaculately kept grounds, the resort is an experience for all the senses. From the moment one steps off the boat, a short 15 minutes from the airport, you enter a world of peace and tranquility. This is pure escapism. Close your eyes and the world seems to slow, where the only sounds you hear are the waves lapping the shore, the ocean in the distance, and the breeze blowing through the coconut palms. Here you are as far from the hustle and bustle of civilization as can be. Even when the resort is close to capacity, you almost feel as if you have the entire place to yourself. And that’s what the resort aims to do. What makes The Four Seasons Bora Bora particularly special beyond the property itself are the familiar and friendly faces and the care and attention to detail from resort’s first-class staff. From the moment one arrives, you are always made to feel special here. The French Polynesian people are warm and welcoming, and caring and passionate about what they do. Here, the local staff do more than just provide great service, they are an invaluable part of the entire guest experience, helping the resort establish a deep sense of place with an increasing focus on sustainability. One gets the sense here that the resort genuinely cares about its people, and in turn they take care of guests. Staff identity and culture are supported with their choice of wearing traditional Polynesian attire on a weekly basis. We’ve delighted in engaging with the entire team and learning more about their culture each time we visit, all under the care and attention of Mr. Chanet, the property’s General Manager, who took the time to reach out during our stay. Most of the people who work at the Four Seasons Bora Bora are locals and they are a wealth of knowledge on everything Bora Bora and French Polynesia in general. For first timers they will help suggest activities and experiences, for regulars they are great source of up-to-date information on the island and its surroundings. Resort staff provided invaluable assistance throughout our stay. It began with the wonderful service from Anais at the front desk who welcomed us at the airport and then escorted us all the way through check in to our overwater bungalow. Angèle, Marie, and Julio at Terre Nui help oversee the best breakfast buffet in the world, and Jeanne is always a delight to see at dinner. At Faré Hoa, the beach bar and grill, a variety of lunch options are served under the hard work of Patricia and her team. Sebastian, the sommelier, regaled us with stories from his many travels, while our server Germain, who is a fountain of knowledge on the island, its ways and its people, was a delight to chat with during dinners at Arii Moana. Chef Johann even went out of his way to delight our daughter with her favorite lunch on more than one occasion. Mathilde, the resident Marine Biologist, is a wealth of information on the lagoons and she took the time to show us an entire world underwater. Mathilde was more than happy to assist with our daughter’s school project, even capturing some underwater pictures for her to use. Much work continues to be done to restore and expand the coral gardens since our last visit. Bring your snorkel gear or grab some from concierge. The swim in the coral lagoons became a part of our routine, with new discoveries each day. Last but not least, the best childcare in the world is provided from Maja, at Bora Bora Childcare Service. Speaking of kids, Four Seasons Bora Bora is family friendly. They have a first-class kids club just around the corner from the main pool. Between Maja and the services offered by the kids club, you can leave the little ones for as long as you’d like while you indulge in a massage or other activities, or simply make time for yourself to do absolutely nothing but wade in the pool or lagoon while sipping the cocktail of the day. Each time we visit, Bora Bora casts a spell on us. While there are other great resort destinations around the world, Four Seasons Bora Bora is a destination we hold in highest regard. And.. We’ll be back! What’s new since our last visit? -A top to bottom renovation of their bungalows took place in 2019, and more recently their villas that now feature larger outdoor pools, a private outdoor kitchen area, and more! -Work continues to ensure all of the natural wood and other finishings are refurbished to keep the resort in top condition. -The resort is developing an organic garden to grow a large part of their fruit, vegetable, and herbs. Request a tour! -Arii Moana Restaurant now serves a variety of Mediterranean food most nights, with a weekly Italian specialty night -Terre Nui Restaurant does a weekly fish house on Fridays. We had the most amazing assortment of fresh fish. -Waterproof wristbands replace traditional key cards so you never misplace your room key -A new airline, Air Moana, is starting inter-islands in February, 2023. They will offer some needed competition on flights from Papeete, the capital, to Bora Bora, and elsewhere. For flights from the U.S. to Papeete there are now several airlines that fly to French Polynesia including Delta, United, French Bee, Air France, and Air Tahiti Niu. In addition to Los Angeles and San Francisco, Seattle in a recently added gateway. Do’s and Don’ts Do -Take a private lagoon tour at the resort with their resident Marine Biologist -Have the signature Polynesian Massage in their Spa soon after arriving -Book at least a Mountain View overwater bungalow to enjoy the view over and over and over again!-For longer stays, plan a day trip to the nearby island of Taha’a by helicopter, and private island tour of Taha’a with Haro who took us to a Vanilla plantation and Pearl Farm (you can also visit a rum distillery). All of this can be arranged with the concierge. Don’t -Don’t arrive into French Polynesia so late that you are forced to overnight in Papeete, the capital. Time your arriving flight with an inter-island connecting flight to head straight for Bora Bora the same day. -Don’t leave too soon! Make sure you allocate at least 5 days to get in the right frame of mind and experience pure bliss. …

The stay at this resort was amazing from the start to the end. The place, scenery are better in reality. The photos dont do the justice. The staff were so welcoming. Kind and helpful during the whole stay. Our bungalow villa had outstanding view to the mount Otemanu. Definitely worth the money! You get free naturel spf50, after burn and mosquito spray in your room. The beach and pool areas are so spacious, you can also get privacy in free cabanas behind the pool. Ernest always came to check if we needed something, he told us everything is possible at this resort! We ate at all the restaurants, in Vaimiti we enjoyed karaoke with a singer, and staff sang a french song during the dinner as well. The whole resort offer so much sport acitivities - we did paddle boarding, kayaking, morning pilates/yoga or went to gym that offers a view to pacific ocean. Or you can go for a run outside. There is a big lagoonarium with different fishes! The resort provides free goggles. We appreciated that hotel manager came by during the day and asked about our stay. That is very thoughtful. The hotel did did a great job on the recent renovation of the over water bungalows, from the native art to the wood paneled walls. The beach is small but gorgeous. The pool has a lovely view and plenty of staff to keep the food and tropical drinks flowing, although the decking needed maintenance and the pool itself has a rough finish. The breakfast buffet earns high marks for tropical fruit, made to order eggs Benedict and omelettes and terrific French toast. Included are unlimited artisanal coffees like cappuccinos with coconut milk. The dinners were very good at the Asian over water restaurant. The Fish House night, a once a week special dinner, fell short of expectations. All in all a wonderful trip to a destination of incomparable beauty.

The Four Seasons Bora Bora is AMAZING!! The views are spectacular and the staff is friendly and accommodating to all your needs. The bungalows are spacious and your own private oasis over the water. It has everything you need with incredible views from every room. We loved waking up to the ocean view right in front of the bed every morning. All the restaurants were delicious! We took many excursions (diving, snorkel with sharks and rays, ATV, jet ski and snorkel with marine biologist) and they were all excellent. Everyone spoke English well and made sure we had a great experience. I highly recommend this resort!!! You will not be disappointed!!

What an absolutely stunning, gorgeous, amazingly beautiful place (both the island and the Four Seasons resort). I’ve always wanted to see the remarkable Mount Otemanu (which is ringed by low-lying reef islands in an almost perfect circle), and during our time here, there was no way to avoid it. Its mystical presence is inescapable from almost any part of this resort. I would venture that the 4S is the best resort with the best mountain view on the island… or should I say, on the lagoon. It’s located on a motu (reef island), like all the other 5 star hotels. It seems to be the most stylish and most recently renovated (in 2019). We only considered the St. Regis as a true alternative but after seeing its pics and reviews, we were very happy with our choice. (Not that you can easily compare resorts once here… you’d have to take an expensive water taxi to get to another hotel). The St. Regis bungalows might be larger, but the ones at the 4S are plenty big enough and I think the most tasteful and Polynesian-inspired accommodations in BB. This is also one very, very expensive resort with lots of fees that add up after a few days. Meals are crazy pricey. Everything is. However, they are up front about it (there were no surprises at check out) and I will say, it was worth the price. The airport pick-up (included in the resort fee) was extremely “White Lotus”… you are met by a friendly 4S employee who puts a lei on you, takes your bags and stows them on the boat before you know it. The boat is elegant and… extremely hot. We almost passed out by the time we got to the hotel. The plastic flaps in back are kept in place to avoid splashing guests but they also prevent any air flow. Everyone complained about it. But it is a beautiful boat… classier than any other hotel’s. We saw them all at the airport. You are then motored over 15 minutes to the hotel’s reception area and greeted by the friendly, smiling staff, some of whom are playing musical instruments and performing a lovely Polynesian song for you. Again, you kind of want to look over your shoulder to see if Jennifer Coolidge is right behind you. It might sound a little old-fashioned, but it was a sweet and sincere welcome and really unique. On the subject of the staff, they were all exceptionally nice. Most of employees are natives to Bora Bora and live on the island, and everyone we encountered was warm and welcoming. I love Hawaii and have been at least 40 times… but it seems with every passing year, the sheer amount of visitors passing through there seem to be making hotel staffs a bit tired of tourists. I didn’t feel that here, not even a little. I’d like to make a special mention of Melissa, the front desk agent from France who was efficient, helpful, charming, fun and delightful. She was assigned to drive us to our room on a golf cart (our luggage was already there) and gave us a tour of the property (in the rain, as it was the tail end of rainy season) and then showed us how to work things in the bungalow (they’re about 1,000 SF and there’s a lot to learn… the lighting was especially tricky). She made the start of our visit memorable and enjoyable. Boyzik at the front desk was especially helpful at check in and Mateata in the restaurants made an excellent impression over the course of a few days, too. However, everyone we came into contact with was great, too. That is very impressive for any hotel, especially a very remote one on a tropical island with lots of (I’m guessing) demanding guests. On the subject of guests, this resort is ideally suited for couples (honeymoon, anniversary, birthday, whatever) and less so for families. Alas, there were a few overprivileged ones here during our stay. The parents would get soused at the bar in the early afternoon and let their kids scream and jump in the one pool and toss footballs over other guests’ heads. At these prices and with so much property around, there should be two pools… with one solely for adults and no roughhousing. The worst group of all was an eightsome from Texas (Dallas, to be precise… I know this because they kept telling everyone). Loud and boorish. They took over breakfast every day and the pool every afternoon. Fortunately, they weren’t staying in a bungalow near us but they were definitely a group to avoid. We were very lucky to have quiet, considerate neighbors in the adjacent bungalows. Even though the bungalows do feel quite private from most angles, they are built pretty close to together and you will get to know the people nearby at least a little, or at least their habits. All bungalows are built out off two main piers that extend well into the lagoon. (There are a few beach villas that celebrities have rented out for weddings). The west bungalows are closer to the public areas and also have better views. Definitely spring for the Mount Otemanu view if it’s in your budget. The bungalows to stay away from are the beach view… some directly face the nearby restaurants and pool. Each bungalow features a separate bedroom and living room, with a large bathroom (with 2 sinks and big soaking tub) in the middle. The windows above the tub even slide open… something we didn’t figure out till watching someone’s Youtube video of the room after we got home. Oh well. There are two large deck areas (one covered) with steps down to the water in the middle. You need to exercise a little caution out on the deck (but not a lot)… the steps can be a little hard to see and the deck boards are real wood… and do have slivers. There are four restaurants with differing cuisines and days and hours of operation, some dependent on weather. Breakfast was included and is highly expensive. You get a check so you know the cost (and that way, you can tip). Breakfast was my least favorite part of the experience (without it ever being bad). The staff, who work here all day and are generally lovely, were at their most stressed in the mornings because everyone comes through all at once. The buffet foods were okay but not remarkable. There was only one toaster and no fiber cereal. But the biggest issue was the hot cooked breakfast entrees made to order, which were not up to par. I don’t think it’s the fault of the nice people who are cooking them. They just were overwhelmed with the endless amounts of eggs they had to make in a hurry. Plates were stacked for miles right in front of you at the buffet. It would help to have this plate line-up hidden from view, as it made me feel like I was eating at a too-busy diner. It wasn’t luxe or pleasant to see people that overworked and the quality did suffer. As a result, I gave up on Eggs Benedict after the first day and just stuck to simpler fried eggs. It wasn’t a terrible start to the day, just not as good as it should have been at these high prices. Lunches, however, were excellent, both with in-room dining and at the restaurants. The same servers were more relaxed and even friendlier than at breakfast. We skipped the restaurants at night and opted for in-room dining because if you have the most amazing view of the mountain from your private overwater bungalow, why not enjoy it fully? Room service was tasty, always on time and always served with a smile. Well done, everyone. (There’s a hefty in-room dining fee, but hey, they’ve got you where they want you). There’s only one pool… none for adults, and again, this is not sufficient for a luxury resort at these prices. They’re lots of land around. Why not build another one? There are two hot tubs available in the spa for anyone’s use… but usually piggy people scope them out early-on and try to discourage you from joining them. They’re also super hot, and we encountered some very hot weather. A tip: try to avoid the rainy season if you can. We ended up pretty lucky with lots of sunny days, but it was insanely humid and even the locals were complaining about how uncomfortable it was. The gym, across from the spa and way out by the ocean on the far side of the resort, has a great view of the South Pacific and is icy cold inside. Very refreshing. Alas, they’ve closed off the ocean due to construction next door (new residences are going in) so your access to the Pacific and the view of it is blocked by an ugly fence. In theory, it’s just temporary. The only way off the island (not that you want to ever leave, truthfully) is via a FS shuttle boat (or private water taxi). The FS shuttle runs once a day and costs 40 bucks per person RT to get to Vaitape, the main town on BB. (I wish it were free or part of the resort fee). Alas, Vaitape isn’t as touristic and charming as some claim. A lot of visitors to Bora Bora just stay at resorts out on the reefs and don’t ever come to the main island, which truthfully looks a little let go in parts. Quite a few hotels are empty and abandoned around the island. I’d suggest going over at least one… rent a car to drive around the island (it takes about 45 minutes) for lots of beautiful vistas, then go to Chin Lee’s market and buy some cheaper, better wine and chips for your room. A helpful adult beverage tip we got from previous reviewers… we brought our vodka in from the Duty Free shop at Papeete airport. There is no Duty Free at the BB airport, which is basically a WW2 landing strip with an open air “terminal.” It is really cool… you do feel like you’re going back in time when you land, but get your drinks beforehand. To give you some context... a very, very small bottle of tonic water was about 13 bucks at the gift shop. A big reason people come here is to scuba and snorkel in the amazingly clear, turquoise waters. Alas, that's not our thing… but it didn’t stop us from enjoying every minute of our 5 night stay. People have written that it’s a once-in-a-lifetime trip but the more I think about our stay here, the more I want to come back. Then again, there’s a lot more world out there to see. Definitely stay here if you come to Bora Bora and want to have the best experience possible… the most scenic Otemanu views, the most luxe accommodations and the friendliest staff. Bora Bora has the most incredible setting in the South Pacific and the Four Seasons totally does it justice.…

Nickel and dime d to death! The lunch and dinner is mediocre at best but top dollar is charged. You are nearly forced to eat at the property. There is no reasonable option to go elsewhere for lunch or dinner. The property is gorgeous but it does not make up for lack luster food.

After having had dinner the first two nights in the resort restaurants, we decided that in room dining was a more pleasant experience. The resort restaurants lack air conditioning which can make for an unpleasant/expensive dinning experience. Because of our elaborate bungalow accommodations, in room dinning (inside or outside our the bungalow) was far more pleasant.

Every staff member with whom we came in contact was attentive and kind especially staffs at Vaimiti ( Bryan and Gwendeline) were above and beyond made our trip memorable and the housekeeping has a birthday surprise for us with a bottle of champagne, birthday cake, hand written birthday cards and flowers everywhere. It’s was so beautiful. We were deeply touched by four seasons warmth and hospitality during our visit. We had one of the most beautiful memories, and can't wait to spend our next vacation with them again.
