When I arrived the manager had gone out. No one new what was available and when a guy showed me around, most of the beds had been used and not cleaned up, the kitchen was a mess and so was the lounge area, totally disorganized and dirty. I would never stay here. Been too spoilt by the awesome backpackers in...

We stayed for two Nights during the national Arts Festival in a dorm. There was no wifi and no Secure parking as said on the Homepage. The Kitchen was not useable, too dirty and no good equipment. Staff was not helpful at all. The bathroom was way too small for all the people and the campers.

I stayed for two weeks when I first arrived in Grahamstown and although it was quiet it was nice and relaxed and staff were friendly. Good outside balcony area and good kitchen to use as well as clean rooms.

staying here out of season is not recommended, the place is earily quiet and the staff have very little to do but look at you as if you are in their space. the camping area is cool and the ablutions are good... awesome kitchen. the place is well situated close to grocery stores tho own transport is probably essential :)

We found this place to be very poor quality. The stuff is friendly but seemed to be stoned all day long. The place seemed a little run down and the very simple and small double room was totally overpriced considering SA average. Unless you wanna get stoned with the owner I would not recommend to stay there...

The friendly staff will give you great advices and will be able to organise almost any trip ! The dorms are really nice with a fancy decoration. You can book a double room in the tree house... really good fun. They have a private parking.

Great place to stay overnight...! From the moment the gate opened we felt as at home. The very relaxed staff, clean rooms, good beds and the colourfull decorated house, nothing bad to say. Thanks to some tips we did some nice trips on our way to the Wild Coast and even a secret recipe agains the pain in my back....

We wanted to break up our trip from Bulungula to Tsitsikamma and staying here was a nice change of pace. Beautiful old converted home just out of town, we felt like we were staying in our own home. We had a 6 person dorm that was spotless. The bathrooms are clean with super-hot showers. The staff is nice and makes...

The hostel has a good atmosphere, but the beds are the worst ever. I prefer sleeping in chinese beds then this one, finally you pay for a bed and that was terrible. Atmosphere and the free wifi were ok.

No longer in the old jail, Whethu is a bit out of downtown Grahamstown. The facilities are pretty basic, but this is a developing country. Rooms are tidy and decent, Paul is a great cook and has plenty of stories to share. Actually, all of the "lost boys" are characters, and that's probably what makes this place interesting and worth...
