An amazing hotel. Old colonial style with a superb atmosphere. Large characterful rooms; having a lit fire when returning from dinner was a great touch. The motorbikes are complimentary to use and great for seeing the grounds, including the polo pavilion which is a must see. The dinner room has superb service, breakfast especially good. Dinner was enjoyable; food if...

The enormous rooms are very comfortable with a huge verandah of views looking out at the horses in the fields. The bathroom was the biggest I have ever been in, but was fully equipped, with everything you could possibly want. The underfloor heating in the bathroom was very welcome as well. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, except for...

Kurlands is impressive and the accommodation is of a very high quality and the decor is stunning. On a cold night the road noise of N2 can be heard. The service is great and the breakfasts are beautiful. Wine list and dinner choices are expensive, but complete.

We stayed at Kurland in August 2013, and it was a fantastic experience to say the least. We stayed for 5 nights, but frankly I could have stayed for 2 weeks. The rooms were spacious, tastefully decorated and luxurious. The grounds were very clean (there were literally a million leaves to pick up each day) and the staff were friendly...

From the crackling fire awaiting us upon an arrival in the dark, the room was the perfect romantic interlude on a cross country trip. Well appointed with immaculate attention to detail. Rambling and nostalgic is unusually accompanied with cleanliness and charming service

I was blown away by this unbelievably beautiful hotel set in acres of greenery. We arrived around 8.30pm and shown to our room in the grounds in our car following a man on a quad bike. We were in Paddock 5 which had an upstart bedroom for my 3 children. When they opened the door to our room, we all...

Arriving at kurland is a bit like stepping back to colonial times. It's the long driveway, the verandas and beautiful rose gardens and the smattering of English old duffers in their yellow shorts and pink knee length socks that sets the scene. You couldn't want for a more beautiful setting in this large estate and the suites are just huge....

The Kurland Hotel must be the most beautiful hotel definitely in South Africa and possibly in the world. It is set in a magnificent polo estate and each bedroom is impeccably furnished and laid-out, with huge, beautiful beds, rooms and bathrooms. Luxury and beauty combined with incredible views from every room across lush green paddocks to the mountains in the...

Ambassador to the finer things in life, Kurland is the ideal family and honeymoon retreat along The Garden Route. Situated in the foothills of the Western Cape Mountains on on a vast and beautiful private estate, complete with its own polo club, Kurland hotel is the stuff of holiday fantasies. This luxury boutique hotel, within reach of secluded beaches and a great variety of activities, has buckets of character, a never-be-bored menu of things to do, fine cuisine and staff who know the true meaning of the word ‘hospitality’.Over 50yrs ago Baron Peter Behr discovered a coastal paradise of exquisite beauty near Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route in South Africa and purchased the estate which he named Kurland after the Baltic province where he was born. In 2000, Behr’s grandson Peter, and his wife Dianne, transformed the family homestead into a Luxury Boutique Hotel which sits at the heart of a 1700 acre estate of stunning natural beauty, perfect for country pursuits. Today, Kurland is a peaceful and luxurious sanctuary which offers highly personalised service, fine cuisine and excellent facilities. Its location within the Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve allows guests the chance to enjoy equestrian activities, forest walks, unspoilt beaches, water sports, and extreme activities such as bungy jumping or sky diving. Kurland also boasts its own championship polo ground, private stables and tuition centre – perfect for guests who wish to learn to play themselves or simply sit and back and marvel at the professionals. Adult guests at Kurland will enjoy the hotel’s 12 luxurious suites, sumptuous interiors, peaceful library, gorgeous rose gardens and well equipped spa whilst parents will relax safe in the knowledge that the needs of younger guests are also very well tended to by Kurland’s experienced team of nannies.
