I really like Happy Hippo Backpackers. You have a huge hall in the middle of the building with a lot of sofas and other possibilites to sit and eat or simply relax. The rooms are located around the hall. Everything is painted and decorated very colourful, every room has a name that has to do something with South Africa. You...

Happy Hippo is one of the nicest backpackers i have ever stayed in, and I have stayed in many. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and beautiful. The rooftop bar is just gorgeous and I always feel at home when I am there. Extremely recommended and I will most definitely be back! Thank you Happy Hippo.

Overall very satisfied. Staff is friendly. Parking is safe. Only issue we had was the music being very loud late at night. We where very tired coming off the cruise ship and the band was banging there drums late. I also drove over a glass bottle in front of the parking area and got a flat tyre. The bottle came...

A wonderful place to stay! The Happy Hippo is bright and inviting! The rooms and bathrooms are kept in tip top shape. Some evenings they put on events like karaoke. Ushaka marine world and water park is a three minute walk from here and the beach front isn't much further. I enjoyed this stay throughly.

Really lovely place, but they police you. I felt like I wasn't on holiday, it was like staying with my grandparents. First, a friend and I showed up with a car and were unpacking all my stuff because he was driving to Joburg and I was staying. I had some food and bottles of cider we just had in the...

Happy hippo is a lovely and accommodating backpacker with everything that one needs as a traveller. The common areas are very welcoming and open allowing one to meet others easily but also feel at ease solo. The communal kitchen is also well equipped. The rooms are very clean and well decorated and the communal bathrooms are nice and clean as...

Great customer service and staff were attentive and helpful. Would visit again in the future if I return to South Africa. Located near Ushaka Marine world. However it is not advisable to walk alone down Mahatma Ghandi Road towards the city end in the evening, especially when you are a foreigner.

What can I say. It was perfect. Everything was big and comfortable. Fabulous stay. I'd very definitely go back. Very close to unshakable and the oceanfront promenade. Handy for buses. Great views from the rooftop bar.
