We really love Satara Rest Camp. It is in the middle of our favorite part of Kruger, so very well situated for drives South to the Lower Sabie area, drives North to the Letaba area, or drives West to the Orpen area. Although there are just two of us, we prefer the two bedroom cottage with the indoor kitchen. We... More

Like many South Africans, we have been visiting the Kruger for a lifetime - more than 50 years! There is hardly a camp we have stayed at. I am bemused about the inability of National Parks as an organization who appears unable or unwilling to modernize the facilities in the camps. Satara has always been a much wanted camp to... More

A good option to stay in the middle of the park and there is a lot of lions near . The accomodation is confortable, beds are good and there is some restaurants and a gaz station. You have all you need to cook by yourself and even a barbecue !

The Kruger National Park has been hit hard by El Niño over the last year. The camp sites are dry, the Satara trees offer little relief for the South African Sun. If you are camping, spent your time at the swimming pool. Or hit the road as the wildlife spends their time at the waterholes and dams not far from... More

This is a pleasant camp ,situated in the middle of the reserve. Most of the huts are arranged in circles so there are no good views from the verandahs.. This general area should provide good viewing for large animals , especially for leopards and lions. The huts are well stocked with crockery and cutlery, a kettle, hot plate, and fridge... More

If you want to see cats then Satara is a definite must on any Kruger intinerary. The landscape around the camp makes for ideal cat country and in our most recent trip we saw lions every day plus also cheetah and leopard close to the camp. Make sure you take time to visit the nearby dams such as Nsemani, Kumana... More

We stayed for 2 nights. A very clean camp basic accomodation but contains all that one needs. The bunglows are serviced every day and kept clean. The mugg and bean serves good food and the park store is well stocked with the normal essential requirements. The sighting of animals around Satara is the best as compared to other sanparks camps.... As a family we have been coming regularly to Satara and will continue to visit. If you are camping, try to get a spot along the fence to view the beautiful sunrises or sunsets, and the odd animal strolling by. Bathroom, kitchen and laundry facilities are well kept and clean. The rondavels are basic but very clean. Never leave any... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Satara is a busy camp, and not without reason. It is situated in an excellent game viewing area, with the bush relatively open and the animals plentiful and diverse. The camp itself has a rustic charm, with the bulk of the accommodation set out in a series of circles. Satara is well wooded and the bird-life is prolific. At night the clink of fruit bats is fused with the chirping of cicadas and crickets. The calls of owls and nightjars add to the symphony that is punctuated intermittently by the whoop of hyena, the screech of jackal and the roars of lion. ... more   less
