If you're lucky , you see hippo's on the grass. Maybe next time install a gardenlight so you can see the hippo's also when it's dark ? Maureen was very helpfull and we had a free upgrade to a bigger room!

We had a wonderful stay at Kingfisher Lodge. The accommodation was perfect, beautifully located, and the service excellent. The personal touches on arrival made us feel very welcome and the staff were very friendly.

We stayed in the Kingfisher Lodge for two nights during our round trip in south africa. We stayed there 10 years before and were surprised that the quality we expected was gone. The room was in a bad shape and not clean. It goes on with an breakfast that was only average and a bored staff. You can't compare it...

My daughter and I only spent one night and we really enjoyed our short stay.Close to the town centre and restaurants but very private and comfortable. Service was friendly and breakfast delightful. I would have liked softer pillows on the bed maybe I just needed to ask. Will come again.

Very friendly and helpful. One room with two singles was small but well appointed and comfortable. The room with the double bed was too small and the bed was uncomfortable for two. We loved the breakfast and room it was served in. The seating area around the pool was very scenic and comfortable. The grounds were lovely. The Hippo visit...

The lodge is located at the end of St. Lucia and has a very nice garden where the hippos walk through during the night. The house is very nicely furnished which makes one feel comfortable from the first second. The breakfast was very good and we could have stayed there and enjoied the view for much longer!

Just came back from this place past weekend! Total tranquility! Great service! Clean and nice decor! Home away from home! Lovely staff members! Great breakfast. The lodge is suited at the end of Mckenzie street which makes it more quite . Close to every thing! The town of St Lucia is really buzzing at night with a great ambiance! Boni

We stayed for 5 nights during our trip to SA. Room was spotless, very comfortable with lovely private patio area, mosquito nets were a necessity and beds comfy. Location was beautiful, grounds made you feel you were definitely at one with nature, including a visit from two hippos around the pool on our first evening, terrifying and amazed, breathtaking. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
St Lucia is the gateway to the beautiful iSimangaliso Wetlands Park, declared South Africa`s first World Heritage Conservation Site in 1999. St Lucia Kingfisher Lodge is situated at the edge of town which means that whilst the shops, restaurants and other amenities are only a 10 minute walk away, the lodge`s delightful gardens blend seamlessly into the surrounding Gwalagwala Forest. The lodge has extensive shady gardens with a wide variety of trees. St Lucia Estuary can be viewed from the end of the garden and the start of the walking trail through the Gwalagwala Forest is next to the front gate. This proximity to nature means that the gardens are home to a wide variety of birds and are often visited by animals such as hippos, various antelope, bush babies and very occasionally leopards. A small swimming pool is available for the exclusive use of guests. Guests are welcome to relax either on sun loungers in the garden, under a poolside shaded area or in the comfortable lounge in the main house. All room rates include a delicious full breakfast which is served in a light and airy dining room offering views of the gardens and estuary. Accommodation at St Lucia Kingfisher Lodge: We offer six unique and private rooms. Each room sleeps two and is equipped with air-conditioning, mosquito nets and a bar fridge for your comfort and convenience. All rooms have en suite facilities and a private shaded patio area. Other facilities at St Lucia Kingfisher Lodge: - Bar Fridge in each suite - Traditional Zulu hair braiding by the experts (go home with a new hairstyle) - All our Suites are non-smoking - Smoking on the patio is permitted - Internet Facilities - Free WiFi - Secretarial Services i.E.: Confirmation of flights, arranging tours/safaris etc ... more   less
