Booked the hotel for its central location and decor. Hotel scored well for this. Loved the decor throughout and service was good. The negatives are: the floor we stayed on smelled of drains throughout the stay and there was no hair drier available in the...More

Nice hotel, stayed for four nights whilst on business.
Breakfast is very good, wide variety and friendly staff.
The restaurant is amazing, the decor is superb and the food is delicious.

The building is good and the rooms are clean, but I was disappointed to learn that I had to pay a hefty R60 for parking and WIFI is available at a cost. These are basics that should be available as part of a 4 star...More

I was upgraded to a suite which was awesome. Just a pity about the water shortage as I couldn't make use of the enormous bath. Town lodge is close to Long Street and market square so very convenient. It only took me 30 minutes to...More

As to whether or not the hotel is within walking distance to the Waterfront would depend on your level of fitness to The Victoria Albert [VA] Waterfront it is short hike of 4.5 km [2.8 miles] which took us 45 minutes including looking in store windows, at the harbor, and boats.
The route we walked was to come all the way down Signal Hill following the road past the shack town till you are at the bottom then take Jordaan [Family Name not the Country] to Dock road follow Dock road to W/Quay Road follow W/Quay till you reach the VA Waterfront Dock Road will take you along the Canal and W/Quay along the rejuvenated harbor area it is a nice walk through this area.
On the way there Jordaan is mostly downhill with Dock and W/Quay road being fairly flat.
The hills you walked down including Signal Hill will test you on the way back and of course the shack town area that you passed through on your way down can be tricky to navigate with your shopping on your return trip.
It was a very enjoyable walk for us and I can recommend the walk to the VA Waterfront just be watchful for the normal street problems you have in any city but after a long day of shopping and chilling at the Waterfront I would catch a cab [taxi] for the return trip.
