Situated at the backdrop and on the slopes of Table Mountain among all the greeneries of Tamboerskloof area this accommodation is a perfect home, away from home. We stayed there for four nights. The location is excellent in a quiet suburb, although not in the city center, but Main Street is only 10 minutes walking. All other city attractions are...

Beautiful place to stay with lovely decorated rooms, eating area and outdoor space. Maureen made us feel at home in Cape Town and gave us very useful recommendations for things to do/places to eat. Breakfast was amazing. Great location, very central. The bed was really comfortable and large and slept really well all nights.

We chose Gilmour Hill as we wanted to be in a location close to the amazing restaurants & bars on Kloof St but in a quieter part of town. It was our first time to Cape Town and Maureen gave us lots of advice on where to go and how to get there. The driver she recommended (Elli) was a...

I suppose most B&B's provide some degree of the comforts of home, which ostensibly attracts tourists in addition to competitive prices as compared to overpriced and impersonal large hotels. Other aspects include the proximity to downtown and/or the attractions of the city, the breakfast, the size and cleanliness of the rooms, the bathroom facilities, the view, the quiet, the neighborhood,...

We were here with my boyfriend and my father for 1 week to explore Cape Town. We really enjoy the b&b, Maureen is so friendly and helps you with everything it feels like coming home. So when you go to Cape Town stay in Gilmore Hill.

We have had a wonderful stay at Gilmour Hill guesthouse. This has been largely due to the proprietor, Maureen. She has gone out of her way to make us feel welcome and assist us planning our days. The location is close to some wonderful restaurants and an easy walk to the Hop on Bus. The breakfasts were served in a...

A really wonderful atmosphere is created by the beautiful old Victorian house and Maureen, the owner, who sees to it that you are made to feel at home no matter what the nature of your visit is. Delicious and lovingly made food is on offer every morning and once you've eaten, it's no more than ten minutes to any of...

I had a last minute business trip and the B&B that I normally stay at was fully booked. Reviews came up positive so I booked. Owner was happy to serve me a breakfast at 6:30am. There is only one parking available and the parking in the street is busy at night. If you don't have a car then it will...

Oh dear, with a 100% rating on Tripadvisor it seems I am one of very few who did not quite find this to my expectation. The reviews in the guest book are great & most people seem to be happy so what went wrong for me? I like to try very different types of accommodation from very high end hotels...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Gilmour Hill is a superb retreat at the edge of the city. Relax and Rejuvenate in style in this perfectly located guesthouse. Nestled between Cape Town’s city bowl and Lion’s head is the quiet suburb of Tamboerskloof. The house stands on the slopes of Table Mountain, where it has stood since the late 19th century. Gilmour hill is a beautifully appointed Victorian home which has 4 en suite bedrooms, a central dining area, living area, an outside patio with a potted garden, which like the house brims with character and life. There is satellite TV in some of the rooms and wifi in the whole house.Maureen the owner is as eclectic as the house itself. She has travelled extensively and loves nothing more than engaging in the stories she shares with travellers from all over the world. She brings with her an atmosphere of warmth and congeniality to this B&B that is also her home. Her love of cooking promises breakfasts of home baking, homemade jams and very different delights such as pancakes with crispy bacon, crème fraiche and maple syrup decorated with summer fruits and always a pot of freshly brewed coffee.Gilmour Hill is situated in the very heart of the ‘10-minute suburb’ of Tamboerskloof, everything around the city is a mere 10 minute taxi ride; the city centre, the Convention Centre, Camps Bay & Clifton beaches, the V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain and Lion’s head. The bustling Kloof Street with its countless restaurants and shops is within walking distance of the house. Close to public transport too. ... more   less
