Derwent House was a fantastic place to stay in Cape Town. We stayed for 4 nights in March, and felt extremely welcome the whole time. They gave us beers and set us up at a lovely poolside table while our room was made ready. The room had a great view of Table Mountain. Breakfast was delicious & plentiful, and turndown...

We have just returned from a tour of South Africa and Derwent House stood out as one of the best places we stayed at. From the moment we walked into the colourful lounge area we were were given the warmest of welcomes from Anahid and Willem who offered us a drink on arrival plus some great local knowledge including their...

We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of March. Could not have been made more welcome by all of the staff - especially Luca. Breakfast is fabulous and we loved being able to help ourselves to tea and coffee downstairs in the lounge and pool area. Honesty bar a great idea too. Ideally situated for Kloof Street, where...

We stayed for 2 nights in February. The hotel is superb with lovely little touches, like complimentary tea coffee and cakes in the lounge and an honesty bar. The hotel is friendly, very relaxing and the décor is beautiful. We even copied some ideas for our own home! We would like to thank the staff for the beautiful Valentine's breakfast...

An excellent privately run small hotel with facilities far exceeding those of much larger establishments. It is located not far off Kloof Street/Long Street so in walking distance of the city centre with many restaurants, bars and shops close by but in a quiet and safe location. The hotel provides a very high level of service and their standards are...

Excellent boutique hotel! We were a group of 4 that stayed for 4N in 2 upstairs rooms in Nov 2016. We couldn't be more happy with our stay at Derwent House. Relatively large rooms, nice balconies and mod/cons. Breakfast and daily snacks were great. Can't say enough about the staff, service they provided for us. Particularly liked the loaner cell...

We stayed in one of the separate apartment block - a beautiful one bedroom "suite" with kitchen, washing machine. We were greeted with a friendly drink and orientation, breads, cookies, cereals and milk in the fridge as a welcoming "starter kit" (and a complimentary bottle of wine). Staff were very helpful with directions, reservations, recommendations. The facilities offer pleasant views...

We stayed at Derwent House for our Honeymoon over New Year 2017. We were welcomed by lovely staff who looked after us from the moment we stepped in to the moment we left. We were recommended restaurants, hotels and possible activities with the next day's weather in mind. All were carefully thought through with our preferences in mind and all...

Our first three nights were spent at Derwent House, and to be my mind it was the perfect introduction to Cape Town and South Africa. This is a superb boutique establishment, staffed by friendly and informed people, with superb breakfasts and situated at what seemed like the foot of Table Mountain and Lion's Head. Highly recommended

Amazing boutique hotel with incredibly friendly and helpful service, delicious breakfast, wonderful rooms and pool area, in a brilliant location. The honesty bar was great - we had wine before we'd go out each evening, or coffee and free cake in the afternoon. The owners were extremely helpful with advice, both over email prior to our arrival, and while we...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In a city renowned for hospitality, Derwent House stands out as one of Cape Town's leading boutique guesthouses. Located in the heart of the vibrant Tamboerskloof/Gardens neighbourhood, this small hotel combines historic charm, contemporary Afro-chic style and all mod-cons for a uniquely Capetonian blend of ambience, warmth, and comfort. Our wonderful team completes the picture -- we go the extra mile for you and our guests leave as friends. We love colour and celebrate African design - you'll find it everywhere. But when it comes to the basics - like breakfast, bedding, showers, climate control, Wi-fi or news from home - we don't compromise so you don't have to. At Derwent House, you're steps away from the hustle and buzz of Kloof Street, with its collection of superb restaurants, bars and trendy boutiques--and just a few further to the nightlife hub of Bree and Long Streets. Yet just a short car journey from the Table Mountain cable car, the beaches of Clifton or Camp's Bay, and the V&A Waterfront. There's nowhere more central -- but come and see for yourself. We're waiting for you! ... more   less
