This old hotel shows its age and needs some repairs, but its location, price, comfortable mattresses, and generous breakfast keeps us returning. Within walking distance from Teatro Colon, the Obelisk, Resoleta cemetery, and the Museum of Fine Arts, not to mention good restaurants, the De Las Americas is a good choice in Buenos Aires.

We arrived here direct from 4 flights totalling over 20 hours. We had paid and booked up front with Expedia, and the hotel acknowledged this, but said that they did not have a room. We were sent to another hotel the Presidente, but the room we were offered was totally unsuitable. The wrangling continued, until at about midnight , the... More

Nice hotel within reasonable walking distance of all the main attractions of Buenos Aires (and there were loads of taxis available for anyone not wanting to walk). The food was excellent and the restaurant staff very pleasant and friendly.

Very comfortable extra large bed and also excellent breakfast included. Hotel staff were helpful and kind Area is ok but it is a long walk to nearest Subte . Good Cafes nearby especially Amazonas . Small supermarket around corner . Be warned that lots of eateries don't open until 7.30 pm Bathroom in hotel room was basic and a bit... More

I had an amazing stay here. The staff was more than helpful! The rooms were clean and the beds were COMFY! This is not that common in hotels around the world. They had a hot water issue at the latter part of our stay but offered us to utilize another room next door- we declined and just dealt with it.... More

Ok for a budget hotel, our room was clean with sufficient storage space, however we had no view from the window other than a bank of Windows from another hotel. The sink in the room was cracked, however it did have a safe (need credit card to operate) and TV. Lobby staff were very helpful. Location was near to shops... More

We were greeted and there were almost always staff in the lobby. We asked for a couple of special items, like a vase for flowers and they did it without question. The breakfast was there each morning, so not a problem. I loved the fresh fruit and they also had pastry my husband enjoyed. The location was good, very central... More

Like all hotels in Downtown B.A. this is a fairly old building. The rooms are confortable and clean. The bathrooms could be beter. The staff is cordial and polite, but they do try to sell you overpriced rides and shows. Breakfast is good, with a lot of choices and good food. The hotel is very well located, near everything you... The room was clean and comfortable but hotel seemed tired. Breakfast was included and very basic. It was convent location and tours did pick up from it. Had a drink in bar one night and felt we were imposing asking for service. I would look around for something else before booking again.

Staying in Retiro

Neighbourhood Profile
Retiro
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighbourhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.
