on arrival in BA back in early jan. we stayed in a hostel near the microcenter for one night before picking up our car. it left us with a fairly dull view of the city. returning 5 weeks later (and 2 months sooner than planned due to a family emergency) we checked into what for us was quite the upgrade... We would rate this at about 1-2 star due to Location not central Rooms smell of stale cigarette smoke Beds small and uncomfortable with one flat pillow we each. Prison pillows are better Rooms are noisy Breakfast average. Bread often a little old Safes in rooms don't work Staff are slow to fix anything On the plus side: staff is... More

This is a decent enough hotel but the staff are what really make the difference. My wife developed laryngitis shortly after arriving in Buenos Aires. Diego and the rest of the staff were extremely helpful and attentive. They phoned taxis and doctors for us, helped us change check our changed flights and generally helped us sort ourselves out during the... More

The worst thing about this hotel is the horrible sound proofing. When you are in the room and someone does something in the room next to yours or in the corridor - you can hear everything. of course, after some time you get used to it and you feel like at home when your family members walk arond in the... We stayed that this hotel for four nights at the end of a 7 week South American trip before heading back to Sydney. Given the location, the nightly tariff was good value at US$55. We found the English speaking front desk staff extremely helpful (booking restaurants, checking airline details etc), much better service then you would expect from a 3... More

We booked through Gate 1 Travel. It is rated 3* but I think they forgot to put the minus sign before the 3. The reception is shabby, old fashioned and dirty. The rooms were worse. They were not only dirty but so filthy that what appeared to be a grey line around the base boards without my glasses on, turned... More

I chose the Impala on the basis of (a) the best price I could find in downtown Buenos Aires for the period I needed (in this case only 2 weeks in advance, booking through OPODO at US$ 92 /night) and (b) the previous reviews in Tripadvisor. The hotel is situated in the upmarket part of the Retiro Barrio about half... More

If you're looking for a simple hotel with clean rooms, friendly staff, great neighborhood (Recoleta), this hotel is a very good choice. I stayed there from Nov 27th through Dec 7th and experienced no problems. The room was small but clean. The bathroom was average sized and also clean. The bed was comfortable. Noise was not a factor. I had... More

I spent 7 nights at the Hotel Impala. It is in a very nice location, one block off Avenue de Julio (?), and a nice stroll to many places of interest, including Teatro COlon etc. one way, Recoleta another way. The room was definitely small as was bathroom, however, it was european small, so it wasn't unexpected. The price was... More

Staying in Retiro

Neighbourhood Profile
Retiro
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighbourhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.
