My wife and I travelled throughout Chile and Argentina in November 2015. We felt safe in this neighbourhood. It is walking distance to some of the sights in Buenos Aires. This is a tiny hostel (more like a 4-5 bedroom apartment) and is has everything you could need. The host was pleasant and helped us book a fun evening going...

We travelled throughout Argentina and Chile as a couple in November 2015. This location was within walking distance to the plazas, waterfront and restaurants. The host, David, was very helpful and accommodating. The room was clean and there is a shared living room and kitchen which is a "plus" if you are planning to eat in sometimes. We went to...

David was friendly and very helpful. Although I booked a room in the hostel, it was overbooked when I arrived, so I was upgraded for free to the apartment. David welcomed me, gave me a map, explained and marked various landmarks for me, then paid for a cab to take me to the apartment. He was also helpful in allowing...

I stayed at this hostel for 5 days while traveling solo in Buenos Aires. The experience was the perfect start for 3 months of travel for me. My room was bright & cozy with a little balcony- even though I had a shared bathroom(only w/ one other room) it was no problem as it was very spacious and clean. The...

I stayed 5 nights at the hostel and three at one of the appartments. Everything was fine. Special was the attentive help by David, the 'reception manager', with every question and little concern I had. Everthing also clean, AC and everything working fine -- both in hostel and appartment. And David was always so relaxed conveying 'buena onda'. I was...

We were just arrived in Argentina. First place to stay, this. We soon felt a home atmosphere, with the guys, so kind with us, me, my wife and my son. And a perfect position, San Telmo, to start discovering Buenos Aires, even walking or taking subway, less than 10min by foot. Very good experience. Thanks.

Great option if you want to stay in a San Telmo and feel like you are at home, rather than feeling like a tourist in a Hostel or Hotel. Republica San Telmo has a really chilled, relaxed vibe to it and is in a great location for exploring San Telmo and the rest of the city

I stayed at Republica San Telmo for two nights after I finished studying in Buenos Aires. It is a quiet, cozy little B&B with extremely friendly and helpful staff. It also has a fantastic location, just a few minute walk from the famous San Telmo market and Plaza Dorrego. It's worth repeating that the staff is amazing. The price is...

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
