Photos and description are misleading, the hotel is unsafe, everything is old and smells of damps. If you use the lift, make sure it's there before entering, or you'll fall to your death. Emergency exits are used as storage. Moreover, put your email once on their 'contact' form, and not only you won't get any response, but you can be guaranteed to be spammed straight away with no option whatsoever to make it stop. Their email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) bounces back all the time, so don't expect any response there either. Stay away, it's a scam!
We stayed here during the eclipse and found it pretty lacking. It appears some parts may be undergoing renovation, but that's not where we were. Our room was pretty shabby and the bathroom each day appeared to have had a pretty poor cleaning....smeared dirt on the floor and hair laying around. The elevator is quite small and our room was up several flights of stairs. The breakfast was OK. The staff was friendly, but I would NOT stay here again unless I had no other choice. The location is good in the center of town though. To be clear, my wife and I have stayed in some pretty basic places around the world, but the lack of cleanliness in various ways here was a real turnoff.
Unfortunately, we had to stay there as part of a pre-planned group-tour for the Solar Eclipse. Accommodations were marginally adequate, and the "breakfast" was even less so. Staff tried to be helpful, but the place was both poorly maintained and badly designed. Hallways were cluttered with junk, and the back stairway was not only blocked with junk but also unsecured from the outside (so anybody could enter from the street). When the electrical blackouts occurred (twice in three days!), we had to take the difficult spiral staircases (up and down five floors!), then go outdoors (in winter!) and enter another door, just to get to the desk or breakfast. Albertina Hotel was rated as THREE stars, but it's barely a ONE.
Our room in this boutique hotel featured an ultra modern bedroom and bathroom. There was an excellent breakfast buffet. It has an odd entrance, i.e. down a set of stairs to one level below ground. Staff were helpful.
Albertina Hotel is located right on the main square of San Juan and is convenient walking to restaurants, etc. Our room had high ceilings, was spacious, clean and quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful. Of particular note was Marcos who speaks good English and went out of his way to help us with a number of sightseeing issues. San Juan is a less cosmopolitan town than Mendoza and much less English is spoken there. However, the people were friendly and helpful and we encountered no difficulties. Likewise, the winery tours were more personal than in Mendoza. Past reviews on Tripadvisor had leveled significant criticism at The Albertina. Perhaps this has to do with the fact that the hotel changed management three years ago and has been significantly upgraded in recent months. Our experience was very positive and we recommend the hotel very strongly to anyone who wishes to stay in San Juan downtown.…
