My wife and I are experienced riders but were bowled over by the fabulous riding at Huechahue. With our excellent gaucha guide, Amelia, we had a week of long and happy days riding out over the beautiful landscape of the Estancia, herding cattle and even horses and relaxing on our journey with a siesta in the shade in the heat... We were recommended Estancia Heuechahue and my friend and I went to visit in early November 2015 for 6 nights. To say we were blown away would be an understatement. Where to start ...?? Service was unobtrusive but of a high standard - if you wanted or needed something it was done. You felt like a true 'guest' rather than... More

We spent three days here. Jane was a wonderful host who really went out of her way to ensure that her guests had a memorable experience. She was interested in each guest's interests & tailored their 'estancia experience' to suit. We felt as though we were part of the family & were treated as such. We were introduced to Jane's... We stayed for four days with Jane. A most memorable experience. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute. My partner John has had very little riding experience but with the help of a very patient, understanding horse survived the experience. We took part in some serious cattle herding and felt part of the team. Thank you to all for looking after us.... More

Set in an indisputably spectacular setting, this ranch is an oasis amidst an eye-filling vista of scrub, with a backdrop of condor rocks and the beautiful river Alumine to raise the pulse of any fly-fisherman (or woman!). We had a memorable day's fishing with Alejandro Buchanan (the perfect guide - friendly, knowledgeable, polite, caring) on a beautiful day when the... More

We arrived at Huechahue for an eight days horseback riding trip from estancia to estancia organized by Equitours and stayed there for three nights. We loved it and had a wonderful time. The estancia is beautiful with large, tastefully decorated rooms, simple but comfortable. There are loans of soft grass and at night skies with endless bright stars. Jane, the... More

We visited Huechahue in December, as part of a three week stay in Argentina, and it was - without a doubt - the highlight of our trip. Jane's welcome is warm, and genuine, and you feel instantly at home on her beautiful, peaceful estancia. We are far from experienced riders, but were matched with horses with perfect manners, that bore... More

We had a wonderful and thoughtful experience that included some adventure for everyone in the family--great fishing in pristine glacial rivers, thrilling horseback riding rounding up horses and cattle, panoramic hikes to see wildlife.......The hospitality was over the top especially because we were there at Thanksgiving, so they "imported" a turkey to make the day unforgettable. The people were truly... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Estancia Huechahue is a family owned working cattle ranch located in Northern Patagonia, Argentina. Nestled into rows and rows of Lombardy poplars, the lodge sits on Ruta Nacional 234 just north of Junin de los Andes, Neuquen Province in Northern Patagonia. Only forty five minutes from San Martin de los Andes and two hours from San Carlos de Bariloche, it is close to Argentina’s famous Lake District and its many attractions. Our lodge is open from November 1 to April 30 every year. Huechahue is perfect for guests who want to explore the area by car and who would like the experience of staying on a working cattle and horse ranch instead of a hotel in town. We offer a B&B option of hotel room with breakfast included. Lunch and dinner are optional and paid for separately. We would be happy to help you plan your activities while you are here. Other guests like an all-inclusive package which typically revolves around our impressive horseback riding programs, fly fishing on the Collon Cura and Chimehuin rivers, a farm or ranch stay, or signing up for one of our culinary classes. Additional reviews of Estancia Huechahue can be found under "attractions". The farm itself is virtually self-sufficient. Water is drawn from an aquifer and electricity from a turbine. Much of the food served at Huechahue comes from the land. Beef, lamb and kid make their way to the asado (BBQ) pit. Ham and bacon from our pigs are cured in the smoke-house. Venison and wild boar from the property are served fresh or smoked and preserved in oil for tasty snacks. Eggs come from the chicken run; milk, home made yogurt and cheese from the dairy cow. Berry patches line the paths and the orchard serves up plums, peaches, nectarines, apricots and apples. A massive garden provides fresh vegetables. Guests can be assured of excellent services and a warm welcome. The atmosphere at Huechahue is relaxing and genial. Eight guest cabins are spread out through the orchard, a short stroll from the main lodge. Guests gather in the dining room for meals, or the large "quincho" for asados and grill outs over an open fire. We hope to see you soon! ... more   less
