Stayed here for 3 nights for my wife’s birthday. Room was was rustic and lovely decorated. Great combination of modern and antique. Staff and owner were a great help with information and recommendations. Great accommodating pets and people even without pets. One of best places in Sedona. Not for someone who wants Ritz-Carlton atmosphere . Highly recommend and will definitely stay here next time again.

Hotel's Favourite
My husband, the dogs, and I loved it here so much we stayed again the next weekend. It is such a relaxing atmosphere and beautiful rooms. Each room is unique some with their own outdoor dog run and fire pits. The courtyard is so tranquil and the hotel is so close to everything. I couldn’t recommend this location more for a trip to Sedona.

Clean, simple but pleasant place located in the best part of Sedona, the historic district. The owners are very nice, we had a little trouble with the heat but the owner came over right away and helped us out. We were grateful that they allow dogs with no pet fee. We'll be back!

That was the worst experience. We were sleeping at 8am this loud noise began right outside our second story room, a gentleman was using a very noisy leaf blower on the courtyard roof outside our room. (Even our balcony). I got a picture. Unbelievable for a place that prides itself on relaxing environment. Also, while gorgeous in construction and design, the furnishings which it seems are meant to be judiciously curated, at some point approach the border from quirky to junky. I appreciate the intent but this may be one of those cases where thinning when bringing in better pieces is needed. Finally, in criticism, i worry about missing major issues. Do they know the posted sign out front is out of the ground and leaning agsinst the building. Do they know we can see the large mattress set out near the parking area. Truly, the room was great (loved the books in the bookshelf). Loved the sodas and snacks freely available and the firepit on our balcony. I also adored the parakeet (Rice or Crispy) but just like their disinterest in getting the lonely sweet critter another buddy after their last one died, in my opinion they should focus on whats important. (Especially another parakeet!)

We are so sorry about the landscaping and will look into it. We are currently trading out some of the furnishings, but they are antiques and thus are on the "used" side. We are sad about Crispy too and are looking into a possible friend for Rice. We do appreciate your review and are glad you enjoyed your room and hotel amenities. Thank you!

I met a woman online and brought her to El Portal to impress her. Eleven years later, we're still together: COVID took away our tenth so we came for 11. Steve the innkeeper is a human treasure. The soul of hospitality: he holds court at the fireplace in the mornings. Each room has its own distinct décor. El Portal is at the heart of Sedona. Try to come during the week, Sedona is quieter, the traffic less congested.
