My husband and I spent 4 nights at Drake Bay Getaway and only wish we could have stayed much longer! We love the outdoors and nature and you must too if you come to visit. Jens and Patrick have created such a special place to stay in a location that is nothing short of magical. The amount of thought and effort that they put into creating Drake Bay Getaway is endless. They literally have thought of everything! From the moment we arrived we felt at home and cared for like friends or family. We stayed in the Heliconia cabin which has the most privacy. The cabins are perfect and beautiful with everything one could need, plenty of space, shelving, bedside tables a comfortable bed, mini fridge, safe, armoire, large deck with hammocks and table with chairs. The beautiful artistic furniture is all handmade of teak as well as floors, ceiling and doors. The huge double sliders make for almost the entire width of the room being open which is a real treat! Ours were only closed when we left. The bathroom is large with two rain showers open to the outdoors with views of the ocean and rainforest. No, it’s not the Four Seasons but if that is your desire I don’t imagine you’d venture to Drake Bay. What came as a VERY welcome surprise to me was that they don’t have many mosquitoes. In fact I never saw one. I tend to get eaten alive and I break out in hives so I was worried. However, we took Jens advice, kept the lights to a minimum at night and closed the slider when we did have lights on. Then when going to bed we left the sliders wide open and enjoyed the most amazing nights sleep with the sounds of the rainforest and nature to wake up to. Staying at Drake Bay, is a delicious culinary experience! All of the meals are preplanned so no need to even think about it. The quality of the ingredients, creativity, variety, and freshness is out of this world! Jens said you could stay for 13 days and never have a repeat meal! We LOVED every meal and miss the meals as much as the view. You’re eating healthy and you don’t even feel like it because the food is fabulous! In our opinion, the hike back up to your cabin is a great after meal workout to rid you of any dessert or cocktail calorie guilt haha. Jens and Patrick take care of every last detail, making sure you are prepared for anything that may come up on your tours. These two are absolute masters at being hosts. We are so grateful for the memorable and beautiful experience they gifted us with. When planning I never thought we would return to this remote area of Costa Rica and now we are thinking it needs to be an annual trip. I honestly don’t believe you can experience anything like anywhere, it’s Pura Vida at its finest!

Osa is one of our very favorite places to visit and Drake Bay Getaway did not disappoint! We arrived by “water taxi” from Sierpe, an hour away down a beautiful river lined with mangroves and then out into the sea to round the coast to the Drake Bay beach. There is a “wet landing” at the beach, which was perfectly fine on the lovely day we arrived—just wear water shoes. If you’re concerned about the public boat you can spring for the pricey private boat, which seems to calm some people’s nerves (the main issue with the public boat is it can be crowded and you don’t get individualized attention, and in rough weather, the portion that goes from river to sea and back can be bumpy—we mostly found it thrilling). Patrick met us on the beach in a shiny red jeep and took our luggage and us to the lodge which is a serene and beautiful spot with very effective ceiling fans and a view of the sea through jungle. There, Jens gave us all the info we could want on our stay, which he continued to do each day of our 5-day trip. The rooms are about a 7-minute, steep hike (via gravel stairway) up, but they will gladly drive you most of the way up if you’re tired. The rooms were simple, but when lying on your bed with the glass doors open (or even closed), you enjoy one of the most stunning views of jungle and sea you could ever imagine. This is the best of both worlds—remote nature excursion where you can hike along unspoiled beaches and forest for miles seeing nothing but families of monkeys, and then come back to exquisite food and drinks at the intimate lodge and exchange notes with your new friends from the four other units. The village of Drake Bay is a dusty but charming backpackers' spot which is fun to wander around if you want a drink or suntan lotion. We highly recommend this place for its mix of (oxymoronically) no-frills luxury, beauty, service, and access to Corcovado and other natural hotspots.

My husband and I spent 4 incredible nights in this Osa Peninsula paradise. From the moment we arrived Yens and Patrick made us feel completely cared for. The location is spectacular. Our "treehouse" cabin was luxurious and spotless with panoramic, open air, breezy views of the coastline and jungle. The food was fresh, delish and presented as works of art designed to tantalize and please all of your senses. Yens and Patrick took care of all our tours and activity planning. Drake Bay Gateway Resort is a must experience for travelers to Osa. The accommodations, food and activities simply can not be beat. But most of all, only Yens and Patrick know the secret to delivering an adventure of a lifetime that you won't be able to find anywhere else...MIC DROP :-)

Drake Bay Getaway… where do I even begin? This resort doesn’t make you feel like a client, they make you feel like family. Yens and Patrick go out of their way to make sure that you feel like you are at home during your stay. My now husband (then fiancé) planned our stay just a few weeks before our wedding, and we were SO lucky to be able to sneak into an open room (I DO NOT suggest this method, as they are often booked out). Yens and Patrick assisted us with booking travel from San Jose down to the Osa Peninsula, which made things SUPER convenient while we were busy putting final touches on our wedding.
When we arrived, we learned all about the resort over Costa Rican coffee and fresh blended fruit juices (both delicious). We stayed in the Orchid room, which overlooks the rainforest canopy and the ocean. It is absolutely breathtaking. The double headed rain shower with a view of the ocean was also out of this world! Mealtime hours are predetermined, but flexible on arrival and departure, which we enjoyed. The food… I can go on and on, but all you need to know is that everything is incredible. Perfect portion sizes, plated beautifully, and the flavors are extraordinary.
The excursions that they provide with your stay (depending on package, I believe) and the additional options are a blast! The tour guides that they work with are friendly and very knowledgeable. We took part in a Corcovado National Forest tour, a snorkeling day trip, a private jungle and waterfall tour, and private massages on our stunning balcony. With all of the meals spent and excursions executed, we started to feel like we were part of a family with the owners and guests. It was an experience that we will never forget. We stayed in multiple resorts after Drake Bay Getaway, and though they were all beautiful, this was our absolute favorite. Thank you Patrick and Yens for a honeymoon experience of a lifetime. P.S. We taught our friends in Arizona how to play, “Oh, Hell!”

Just before the worldwide lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic my daughter and I were lucky enough to have a two week adventure in Costa Rica. Staying at the Drake Bay Getaway in the Osa Peninsula was by far the best 5 days of our trip.
The Resort is run by Patrick and Yens and they make your stay so very special.
Patrick met us at the airport and brought us back to the area where one has breakfast/dinner/drinks...Yens presented us with delicious fresh drinks and asked about any allergies we might have. They pass on all to their chefs who then prepare extraordinary meals for all, tailor-made to whatever allergy you might have.
Patrick and Yens make your stay as perfect as they can.
We had the top floor of a cabin at the top of the hill - quite a walk up and down
but all well worth it. The room is spacious, clean and most comfortable.
You shower by the open sided aspect of the bathroom, which gives you the impression of showering in the forest. Dawn is a magical time when you can hear a variety of birdsong, animals calling.
We had arranged trips into the rain forest, to Canoe Island, birdwatching ...all is possible from there. Yens would prepare you for the next day's adventure, giving you details of times to meet up, what to wear, take with. The guide we had was brilliant
and his knowledge extraordinary.
We can highly recommend this resort and hope that when this pandemic is finally over and Costa Rica gets up and running again, that others will be able to benefit from a little stay at the Drake Gay Getaway resort.

Luxury Nature Immersion
This Christmas, my husband and I, our 2 adult sons and their 2 friends (6 total) spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica, 4 of the nights we stayed with Yens and Patrick at their Costa Rican Eco-Luxury Boutique Hotel. There are 5 cabinas total and we booked 3 of the 5. Our experience was consistent with what they promise on their website.
We arrived via boat taxi. After a 1 hour boat ride with breathtaking scenery, which included a trip through a mangrove forest, we arrived at Drake Bay where both Yens and Patrick were waiting on the beach with staff to help collect us and our luggage. Having owners greet us at the beach set the tone for the personal service we would receive throughout our magical stay. We had a bit of a Fantasy Island moment upon arrival but we arrived via boat and not plane :).
The accommodations with minimalist design offer pointed focus on natures constant sublime performance. What was most spectacular and unique was the ability to leave doors and windows open with no screens blocking views. At first I was skeptical as we are highly sensitive to biting bugs, but we had no problems. Being able to exist open air at all times in the natural environment was incredible. Apparently Osa’s eco system is quite unspoiled and in balance so nature keeps the biting bugs in check - Pura Vida.
The view from the rooms is spectacular and my only regret is not leaving more time to just lounge on the porch taking in the scenery.
Gourmet Vegan Food
Not only are we all vegan but the 4 young adults with us were body builders and required substantial amounts of food. I was concerned about the food situation, but they handled us like a dream and provided us with delicious gourmet meals, and doubled the portions for those requiring more. No meal was ever repeated. The presentation of the food was gorgeous. Meals were catered to our preferences and dietary concerns.
We took advantage of the classic wilderness experiences including a wildlife tour of Corcovado National Park and a snorkeling adventure. The tours only include guests staying at Drake Bay Getaway, so they were very private and well curated.
Yens and Patrick, the owners were our personal hosts throughout the stay. They served all meals, took drink orders, drove us around the property and organized our tours with great attention to detail.
Overall, our group left feeling nourished (on multiple levels), rejuvenated, and more connected to nature.

Having both traveled extensively and lodged in a wide-range of accommodations, there are few places that truly capture the magic of the locale while also providing an unmatched experience – Drake Bay Getaway is one of these places.
From the elegant and airy rooms, with spectacular views of the pacific and jungle, to the flowering walkways bustling with wildlife, Drake Bay Getaway provided us with the perfect fusion of relaxation and adventure. The hotel owners, Yens and Patrick, are the kind of people you want to run every resort. Not only have they built Drake Bay Getaway from the ground up, it is clear they considered every detail, are committed to preserving the local ecosystem, and providing first class service. They ensured we and the other guests were always aware of our upcoming activities and that our every comfort was met. Whether it was sharing the best spots to see local wildlife, or, just sharing a friendly word in the morning, their presence made our trip that much more special.
Meals were masterfully and exquisitely prepared with every possible dietary restriction and whim able to be met by the expert staff (the triple espresso before a morning hike is a must!). Every meal was like eating at a Michelin starred restaurant. Every penny was absolutely worth it and we cannot wait to get back! Highly, Highly recommended for anyone who is considering a trip to the Osa Peninsula.

We just returned from a 5 night family vacation at Drake Bay Getaway Resort. Excellent doesn't begin to describe how wonderful this resort is. It is immaculately clean and well kept. Every meal is a gourmet delight made from locally sourced ingredients. Our hosts provided delicious gluten free and dairy free meals for those of us with strict dietary requirements. Yens and Patrick are incredibly attentive hosts who handled all of the arrangements for our various tours. They even arranged a special night tour of Tamandua Biological Station to accommodate our interests. We especially enjoyed socializing with the other guests and playing "Oh Hell" with Yens and Patrick in the evenings. The website and the photos accurately portray the resort. Book there with confidence. You won't be disappointed. We can't wait to go back!

We just spent 5 nights at Drake Bay Getaway, and are in awe of the unique and wonderful experience that Patrick and Yens have created for their guests. We were in the Heliconia Cabin, with breathtaking and private views of the bay and the jungle. We were able to sleep each night with the deck door open with no insect issues. The call of the birds and sound of the waves made for restful sleep in a very comfortable king-sized bed. The cabin was always spotless and well supplied. There are flashlights for walking at night, water bottles to take on hikes or tours, and binoculars to see the colorful birds that are continually flying by and perching in the surrounding canopy. The food each day was organic, beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. It could rival fine restaurants anywhere. The unlimited fruit smoothies and juices were just awesome. The walking trails along the coastline and to the local beaches were stunning, The staff was always helpful, and Patrick and Yens were ever-present to make sure you have exactly what you need. Even better, they are truly interested in their guests and great fun to be with for engaging conversation. We left feeling as if we made two new friends. One final recommendation - we had massages on our deck and they were among the best we ever had.

My wife and I and our best friends were fortunate to spend 4 nights at Patrick and Yens Fantastic Resort. Just the thought of our time there brings immediate smiles to our faces. To have the owners being the point people for all our needs is in itself a unique and VIP experience. They helped plan and set up all our transportation and adventures well in advance of our visit. Patrick's smiling face was there at Drakes Bay tiny airport to greet us and start our adventure. After that they were both always there and taking care of us. The dining location and meals we experienced is in itself a magical vacation. Our rooms, Wow! Left all doors and windows wide open and experienced heavenly sleeps, views, sounds, sightings and relaxation. Walking their property makes you feel fantastic and then able to stroll onto the beach and swim so easily. Short walk to experience the local activity at Drakes Bay.
The start of The Drakes Bay Hiking Trail is right there and has amazing beaches and views. Great monkey experiences on it. National Park Tour, River Tour, Scuba, Our Guides. All Special Times! Attention to details left us completely melted and comfortable.
Thank You Yens and Patrick, Looking forward to being with you again and sharing that experience with other Family members.

The beach is a few hundred yards down the hill from the property. The bay itself isn't the best spot (can be a little stinky at low tide) If you walk 20 to 30 minutes to the left (as your are facing the water) there are a series of small bays that are quite nice.
Hi Erika,
I recommend you contact one of the owners, Yens directly. He is incredibly responsive and knowledgeable.
Yens and Patrick will be better able to answer this question. My view is that one of the best experiences of staying at Drake Bay Getaway is living, sleeping and waking up in their wonderful cabins. Also the resort is an excellent base from which to do activities, such as snorkelling, a rain forest tour in the Corcovado etc. So I doubt that this is the best place for a day pass form a cruise.
it's illegal to go into the park without a guide. As for crime, it's not a concern, especially at Drake Bay. Costa Rica is gorgeous and the people are lovely.
