Newa Chén is not a place to be if you're tall. It's designed for the middle ages, and it's wonderful. Dark wood, a calm courtyard, perfectly friendly staff, an oasis of calm in the middle (2 minutes from the Durbar) of Patan. If you don't stay, you're missing out.

We loved Newa Chen in Patan, Kathmandu. The charm and authenticity of this UNESCO World Heritage site is what immediately greets you as you walk in through the historically accurate small entrance (mind your head!). The family that runs it has your interests at heart and truly want you to enjoy your stay. They were incredibly accomodating for our needs...

Newa Chen is a refurbished Newari house in the center of Patan (Lalitpur). Although it may not have the same facilities as a modern hotel, we loved to stay there. It's one of the Hotels we liked more in our trip to Nepal. The house is very beautiful and the rooms and comfortable enough, and very clean. It's 2 minutes...

The architecture is amazing! I felt like I was going back in time. The ceilings and doors are very low, and both the beds and seats in the attached seating area are legless so they are low as well, but that added to the charm and uniqueness. Since my husband and I are both short, this didn't bother us, but...

Newa Chen is a delightful and traditional Narwari-style house that has been in the family for over 300 years. I has been tastefully renovated by a UNESCO grant and the current owners take great pride in their house as well as making their guest comfortable. The whole building is both very tasteful and simple. All the bed rooms are slightly...

This is a lovely, comfortable guesthouse, beautifully restored with the help of Unesco funds. Good location near Patan Durbar Square. Helpful staff but the service can be slow at breakfast, even by Nepali standards! Not suitable for tall people as the ceilings and doors are low. Woken early as the street is noisy

We were excited to find this boutique hotel in the heart of Patan.  The hotel is exquisite, with a beautiful courtyard and large, comfy rooms which all contain a sitting area.  The decor is fantastic and the architecture is very unique. It's something different and well worth the stay.

If you go to Kathmandu, add Patan to the list. If you go to Patan, add Newa Chen as the place to stay. It's difficult to capture the essence of a Newari home except by staying there. Note: Everything is low in a Newari home Mattresses are on the floor but were comfortable. The staff was as lovely as the...

The place is lovely and the staff is very friendly, but the actual space is very uncomfortable. My husband and I spent three nights in mid-June and neither of us is very tall, but we found the low ceilings and doorways very uncomfortable. The courtyard where they serve breakfast is nice in the morning, but is not well-lit enough to sit...
