Our room was large and comfortable and we were on the lake side of the building so had a lovely lake view. To me, the fact that this is a school during the year added to its charm. Staff were helpful and friendly, breakfast was a pleasure overlooking the lake and the lounges were comfortable. We had dinner in the hotel for one of our three nights and the food and service were good. I used the Wifi extensively in the lounge and in our room for looking up information on the internet, emailing etc and had no issues. Iceland is expensive in general and this hotel and restaurant was in line with Iceland prices. The location by the lake was great and a good base for exploring the Golden Circle over a couple of days. Our beds were very comfortable and the shower was powerful. We found everything to be clean and I would definitely go back.…
Nice view, clean but couldn’t sleep because of sink- hole mattresses and wanted to use WiFi and didn’t work in room. However stark , there was a gorgeous view and ver clean. friendly receptionist. A small bar. Shame so expensive but that’s Iceland for you
The hotel has an excellent location on the banks of the lake and within walking distance from the Fontana spa. Rooms (and especially bathrooms) are pretty basic and in need of some refreshing, but generally clean. Mine was facing the parking so not much of a view. We did not try the restaurant. The person in charge of the lobby is not always at the desk so sometimes the wait just to get your room key can be pretty long. The back garden on the lake is a perfect place for a pre-dinner drink if the weather is fine.
Hi again Folks. After staying at a place that had microscopic rooms, this was a possitive thrill. The room was very large. It was also clean and had a nice view of the lake. I'm glad they went against the micro room trend. Very small rooms do not appeal to Americans. Regards, OldeBear
Nice place and beautiful situated. More than plenty space to park your car. The school is a school. And that's not an hotel. Besides that the staff was absolute good. The place was clean and the rooms OK. The bathroom is medium but clean. Breakfast is in a big school restaurant.
This is an Edda hotel which was our first experience of an Edda and it was a delight. This Edda is a university accommodation for most of the year. Our room was clean, spacious and had a great walk in shower. We really appreciated the balcony and the view across the lake was stunning. Loads of car parking space, staff so friendly and helpful and the town is lovely. The best thing is the geothermal baths next door, you do get a discount and they are fantastic. Allow yourself plenty of time to really enjoy them. The Edda is unique and at times does feel like student accommodation, but hey you are in Iceland!
The view of the lake and the proximity to Fontana were the best features. If you book a package, be sure to bring all the information regarding the details of your package (and consider checking in while the home office is open so they can call) as the staff does not know about them. The restaurant is good for breakfast, but consider one of the other local restaurants for dinner. The WIFI is poor in the rooms and only slightly better in the common areas. Attention to details on cleanliness were lacking: dusty corners and dead gnats by the windows in rooms and restaurant.
This is a school in the winter and used for visitors in the summer. It overlooks the lake with great views. There is ample space - lobby and lounges. It is quite simply decorated and I can see why another reviewer says it lacks atmosphere, but there is a lot going for it. Rooms were a better size than others we had on our one week trip; there were enough towels, the shower did not flood the bathroom, there were ample helpful staff, there was a really welcoming manager/host (ex-Hilton - that explains it); and breakfast buffet was well arranged. Admittedly, there were no tours, when we stayed; but I have a feeling they would have still coped well.
This boarding school is used as hotel in tourist season. and you may notice this. It has no atmosphere, but is a pragmatic, efficient place to sleep and eat. The rooms are okay, as is the breakfast. I don't have experiences with the quality of the dinner. Absolutely not top notch, but an average way of supplying accomodation
It is a dormitory style hotel located in a school. Quiet, clean. Bed is a bit narrow but acceptable. Separate shower and bathroom are better than expected. Didn't try the breakfast as it's a bit pricey, $25. In general we found food and everything else are more expensive here! There's a small supermarket down the road just minutes away where you can get some grocery.
