We can't say enough about our stay at Geirakot. The hosts were lovely and let my wife and I watch the cows being milked AND later that evening we stood in their dark driveway and watched the northern lights. The breakfast and set-up was top notch and charming. Plus, you are very close to Selfoss if you need anything from...

Geirakot was a blessing and a joy for our family. One of the luckiest days in our year was when we found it on TripAdvisor and decided to stay there for our full week in Iceland. The guesthouse is beautiful, clean, quiet, and comfortable, with ample bathroom and shower space, laundry facilities, a kitchen for cooking, and several places to...

Simple accomodations but very comfortable and clean. The shared bathroom(s) was surprisingly always available and an big plus were the hosts Maria and Olafur. My grandson of 7 years was very happy playing with one of their grandsons. Another big plus for us was access to a washer and dryer for our clothes. We stayed 5 nights and had easy...

Gierakot Farm Stay was an absolute godsend for me and my 77 year old mother for 4 nights in Iceland in August. The hosting family has farmed the property for generations. The guest house is comfortable, super clean, quiet and lovely. We had a delicious breakfast each day and could used the kitchen to cook, with plenty of storage space,...

We had a lovely time in Geirakot. We stayed there for three days, enjoyed the nature and took trips to the Golden circle, the seaside and some more remote villages. Maria was very helpful, had some interesting conversations about farming and plants with my mum. Our room was very nice and clean, with flower bed linens. The breakfast was very...

Don't pay attention Lonely Planet's Iceland Guide "Selfoss: not a place to visit". Somerville reasons: 1. It does worth going Geirakot family home where Olafur was born and still full of life as well as quietness. 2.Well equipped if travelling on your own and good and admired Marie's breakfast. 3. Perfect location after arriving Iceland to start visiting the island.

Everyone's superlative comments are all true - the owners are very welcoming and have lots of useful information, the farm is charming, and the breakfast is terrific, including fresh milk from their cows. Only reason i am writing is to add they have a washer and dryer. Very handy after visiting secret lagoon (also highly recommended)

My wife and I planned on spending the night in Selfoss but we arrived fairly late (9:00 PM). After waiting for nearly half an hour and the HI hostel, we were told that it was full. Our Lonely Planet book had this place listed, so we figured we would give it a shot. The owner was there and had a...

We spent three nights at Geirakot and had a great time. The family is very welcoming and simply charming - trying to assist you whereever they can. Breakfast was good (and in a sun-flooded room), the shower was hot and the bed more than comfortable. If you feel like it check out the cow shed and watch the daily milking...
