We called to the Schooner for a meal last Saturday evening. It was quiet at the time.
I ordered chicken Kiev which was delicious-beautifully cooked and not swimming in butter (although the coating was a bit dry). My companion had steak which was cooked exactly...More

My wife and I split a burger and chips at the Schooner. The burger was great, very thick, almost more like a meatball than the American version. It was all served with Ballymaloe Country Relish instead of ketchup, a nice touch, our first experience with...More

I looked at Johnbarry12 review on Tripadvisor/The Schooner Tavern. First I will say before sending in a rushed review on your phone when your obviously angry always check your spelling cos review you left sounds possibly wrongly that you were so angry you didn't think you just wrote a scathing review and pressed send or you had few pints and the typing fingers were not steady. Either way your entitled to your comments but I am beginning to think its almost too easy to review nowadays when everyone has a mobile and can do it instantly and majority are not thinking first before doing it. Look if food is poisonous or facility is filthy dirty or owner is unbelievably rude well then review. BUT in lot of cases now people are angry because they are left waiting for food or they order the wrong thing and they find they do not like it or they clash with owner or staff. That is not a reason to lodge a scathing review. Think before you hit send button. Remember your most probably going to affect either good or bad a business in this case I know its a family business. Peoples livelhoods are wound up in this business, the staff jobs, the suppliers business. Your review will have an affect on all of this not to mind upsetting owners etc who may be working all hours to keep business afloat in tough economic times. Ask the questions....did you talk to the owner if you had genuine complaint first before reviewing thus giving them a chance to reply or replace your meal if that is the problem, did you have a really genuine reason to complain, was it the owners fault or your own....if you chose battered chicken and you hate batter well that is not owners fault e.g. Think logically and rationally before sending any review and only when your sure then send. I have eaten in Schooner Tavern many times when I have visited Ballycotton. The food is not Ballymaloe cuisine standard, no fancy salad dressings e.g but its good normal family food. Good steaks, really fresh fish from family boats fishing daily off Ballycotton, fresh fish gougons and real chicken breast gougons, etc etc. The food is good, place is spotless, staff are chatty and nice and nice owners who work very very hard here to keep their pub as a going concern. Its hard to please the public and very few get it right all of the time but these people try so give them a break.
