A pub for locals or fine dining destination? The lines are blurred and the execution confused. No welcome from the seemingly aloof bar manager as we arrived and waited awkwardly to be shown to our table. Once installed the restaurant team did a great job but there is clearly a managerial disconnect impacting the overall experience the bar and restaurant offers. Other local ‘gastro’ pubs offer great customer service with excellent teams pulling in the same direction to encourage best results. We have been visiting this pub for over 20 years. This years visit was a big disappointment. When you are paying £14 for a starter and £38 for a main, the whole experience needs to be ‘on point’ including a warm welcome on arrival and a professional and cohesive team engaged in delivering a top result. Service once we were seated was excellent. The chef clearly has good skills and experience. The food left me feeling somewhat shortchanged as portions were small and the dining room was simply an area that did not feel quite right. It lacks proper dining feel. I can understand why the tables were not full as, to justify the prices, the whole experience needs to be spot on. There were too many missing pieces to make this a memorable evening for the right reasons. As we left the bar manager failed again to connect with a parting farewell. Quelle surprise!

We really loved this quaint charming 17th century hotel. Our room had a great harbour view. Steep stairs added to the charm. So accommodating and warm. The coissants at breakfast we’re the best I have ever eaten. Just charming and a great experience

Amazing hotel. Staff so helpful. (especially Michelle) Food is to die for and the rooms are well equipped, very clean and extremely comfortable. Perfect location, only a 5-10 minute coastal walk to Port Isaac. Would definitely stay again.

Our room was more of a hostel than a hotel. Creaky single beds, sun-standard mattresses. Plastic curtains. This was the most expensive accommodation so far on our Cornwall travels, and yet the worst room !! The food at their restaurant is really good; and the staff are superb. But next time I will stay elsewhere.

The pub is beautifully situated but the food is ridiculously overpriced and the portions are small. Today I ordered the one vegetarian option that appeared to be a possible vegan option from the description and so I didn’t feel the need to ask about the ingredients. My courgette flower came in a milk and cream soup instead of the leek stuffing on the menu. When I explained that I wasn’t expecting the milky sauce(literally a bowl of it), I was told that I should have asked what was in the meal when ordering. They really need to up their game.

We visited today for a lunchtime meal with our family. My wife and I have visited previously for lunches and drinks on our many visits and stays in Port Isaac. We have always enjoyed the Inn and it’s obvious delightful location and it’s food. The menus have now changed significantly and are obviously now aimed at those with deep pockets. Having said that , the food was lovely and beautifully presented. My only issue was when we first entered the Inn, my son politely asked if they could accommodate us for a table for 5 ? Rather than say yes or no to the question or offer to show us to a table, the member of staff ‘s first comment to my son was .. would you first like to look at the menu.? This had the effect of us feeling as though we were being checked out before offering us a table to see if we were able to pay the prices, particularly as the pub at the time did not seem to be busy and there seemed to be many tables free. This to my mind, is a very poor opening question to welcoming customers to any hospitality establishment. As it happened we were quite happy to pay for the expensive food for our special family occasion. Nobody should be made to feel as though they may not be worthy of an establisment . ( Maybe that wasn’t the ladies intention … but that was the effect it had on us. ) We did really enjoy our visit but for that reason alone would not return for another meal. In addition my wife also overheard comments between members of staff about us. Sometimes places can see themselves above others in their own personal quest for excellence. It helps to remember common courtesy to everyone from the outset. These comments are no reflection on the waiting staff. who were very professional and friendly. Shame. Nick Adams

This is just not a 5 star hotel..they are using an AA rating to imply it is. Food is average and crazy priced, I have been to cheaper bars in Belgravia. I just can't recommend it despite the location.

I am reviewing the Sunday lunch our family had today which was really one of the best Sunday roasts we have ever had. Everything on the plate was just delicious. The beef was rare, potatoes and Yorkshire pud crispy and the veg delicious. We were three adults and two children . There was a children’s menu which was very much appreciated. The desserts were to die for!!

Hotel for millionaires! This hotel charges top prices for accommodation and meals. Limited menu. Fish and chips plus a small starter is £38 per person. Accommodation is difficult to access because of narrow, steep stairs and is limited. The position of the hotel is good but parking is restricted to a few spaces in an adjoining street. The one good point are the serving staff who are kind and thoughtful. Other tourists were saying that since COVID the locals have bumped up their prices to make up their losses. They are killing the golden goose!

What a disappointment. We have been going to Port Gaverne hotel to eat since we were in our twenties. We are now in our eighties. We won’t be going again unless it changes hands or management. The waitresses were the only saving grace. The menu was ridiculously expensive. This place used to serve the best crab sandwiches ever. And the rest of the food was always good. Oh dear.
