We have only been here for lunch before, but a chilly afternoon sent us away from Marine Parade and into the warmth of the Royal Lion. Sitting on a comfy sofa in front of a roaring fire and sipping afternoon tea is one of life's pleasures and this place does it as well as anywhere. The staff are polite and...

Stayed for one night in this lovely hotel. Great location (with parking) and a great ambience. The bar, lounge and reception are real "olde worlde" but he rooms are a bit dated- ours did have a splendid view. Breakfast was memorable. The breakfast room is beautifully appointed and could serve as a settng for a very formal dinner, there is...

We ended up at this hotel having checked in a straight out of another hotel due to it being extremely poor. It was with trepidation we viewed the view before booking. However we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel itself is set back from the pub which is good. Its a little walk to the room but that did not matter...

We stayed in room 304 on my 60th birthday. A lovely balcony room with views of the coast. The room was of an excellent standard and the bed was very comfortable. We turned the heating off and opened a window to sleep but were amazed by the lack of a duvet. We had a sheet, blanket and eiderdown - This...

Stopped off at the Royal Lion for lunch during Half Term. 3 adults, 4 children and 1 dog. Dog was very welcomed in the lounge bar. Very impressed with the ambience and staff - the fire was lit, the dog was given treats and the service was very good. Not sure about the pan pipe music, though! Meals cost between...

My friends and I, just love this place. Really old world charm, log fire, friendly staff and always a lovely atmosphere in the bar of this fine old hotel. Whether it be just a drink, or one of their delightful bar snacks. It ticks all the boxes.

We booked this hotel on a recommendation of friends. It was even better than we had been led to believe. Situated in a very central position and with parking it is easy to access the beach and all the attractions this lovely town has to offer. A warm welcome and a beautiful balcony room looking over rooftops to the sea....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At the heart of the idyllic town of Lyme Regis, 'the Pearl of Dorset', is the Royal Lion Hotel, a stunning haven located in the middle of the High Street, with its own private car park. Lyme Regis is a picturesque town on the West Dorset border, part of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage site. Steeped in history, it is renowned for its fascinating past, mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, the unique fossils found in the cliffs and beaches, and for being the central location of the novel and the 1981 film, 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'. Situated less than 100 metres from the sea, the Royal Lion Hotel is a perfect base from which to explore the locale. Built in 1601 as a coaching inn, the Hotel has been extensively refurbished, yet still retains much of its history and unique charm. Oak beams, wood panelling and open fires help to create a warm, welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, with new additions of its own swimming pool and other facilities. Wi-Fi, although not available in the bedrooms, is available to guests in several areas of the hotel. Privately owned and managed, the Royal Lion Hotel has gained an enviable reputation for its friendly service, world class food and wine and leisure offerings. ... more   less
