Staying here feels like visiting your sophisticated and cultured friends who have excellent taste. Candida and Hugh have perfected the art of being present exactly the correct amount; they were entirely available to give us tips on Lyme Regis and provide us with a gorgeous breakfast however they never "hovered" or made us feel awkward in any way. The bed...

We could not have been made more welcome. The room (Red Room) was quiet, the bed comfortable, the hosts very accommodating and the breakfast superb. All the food was home made, fresh and delicious and the complimentary pot of tea on arrival most welcome.

If you like creative, eccentric and charming houses, then this place is for you. Lovely breakfasts served on hand made pottery on the verandah with a beautiful garden and sea view made a great start to the day. All the wallpaper in the house is hand printed by Hugh, and our room, and indeed the whole house it is full...

Candida and Hugh and the two cats made me feel really welcome. The Blue Room was charming and I loved having breakfast on the verandah looking out over the lovely garden. The homemade bread and jams were scrumptious. It felt as if we were hidden away deep in the countryside, but in fact you could be down at the sea...

I was quite taken with the house before I even set foot in it; you can tell from the website it's a special 'Little Place' and it certainly lives up to expectations. It was very handy to be able to check in at 2pm (earlier than many B&B's) and I found the atmosphere to remain relaxed and friendly throughout my...

We arrived tired after a long drive down from London and found, to our delight, the most wonderful B&B. Our room lived up to our expectations, our hosts exceeded them. Everything worked for us - the red room, with its wonderful four poster, the delicious and plentiful breakfast, the quirky beauty of the place . . . and the most...

The Little Place, Arty B+B By the Sea… When I found it online I caught my breath - it was exactly what I'd hoped to find but always thought rather impossible. My room was a comfortable dream. A bed fit for royalty (and rumor has it may have actually serviced some prone royal figure). Every wall is surfaced by Hugh's...

Very relaxed. Great garden. Breakfast views across Lyme Bay to Golden Cap. Cats at play. Artist in residence. Come and go as you like. Quiet but a short step from the street buzz if you want it. 10 mins downhill to seafront. Sleep like a king (apparently) in the Red Room, or be Blue. Great wallpaper.

Hugh and Candida run an unique establishment. The Regency house is utterly charming, hidden behind a wall, and surrounded by peaceful gardens. Hugh's art covers every surface - from the hand printed wallpapers, the excellent prints and pictures, to the marmalade and jam labels - even the loo roll holders! We stayed in the red room, in a massive fourposter...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Come and stay the weekend, or longer, in our beautiful Georgian home in the pretty seaside town of Lyme Regis, the Pearl of West Dorset's Jurassic Coast. Here in Lyme Regis you will never be bored. You can laze on a beach, collect fossils or jetsam from the Victorian dump that is crumbling onto the shoreline. You can trawl the shops or eat yourself silly. It takes a morning to explore the face of this charming Georgian gem, but this is a small town with a large town's appetite for adventure.Turn to the page Things to Do, or ask Hugh when you arrive - what's new? Decorated in handprinted wallpapers, paintings of the coast and of the artist's family, this studio home* is set in the very heart of the town. Little Place is 5 minutes uphill from Broad Street, the main drag, and Langmoor Gardens with its celebrated view and access to the ancient Cobb, the harbour and the beach. We have two rooms with en suite shower, not sea views. You can have breakfast on the verandah with a stunning sea view overlooking Golden Cap, and sit in our garden. Most of the breakfast is home made produce; and we strive to live in an environmentally-friendly way. Parking in nearby pay and display carparks. "One of the prettiest places in the UK" as recently described by John Sargeant, Lyme Regis and especially Little Place continue to be an inspiration to its present artist owners. Here's your opportunity to share that inspiration by staying in a quite unique house in this jewel of a seaside town. This arty house has pedigree. For many years it was the home of Sir Laurence Whistler, The Queen's Glass Engraver. He left his mark on several beautiful windows about the house. This is a creative, working house and we welcome those who respect a quiet atmosphere. Your host Hugh is a working artist with a busy practice in portraits, landscapes, & lino prints together with textiles & wallpaper making. ... more   less
