We ate at the Royal Oak last night with our teenage son. It had a nice welcoming atmosphere with good service and range of local beers and the food was particularly good and definitely a step up from the standard pub grub that we'd expected. We shared a portion of tempura prawns and breaded squid between us and both generous...

Ate there with friends and out 3 year old son last night. The quality of the food is second to none. It was excellent. The landlords got a great sense of humour and nothing was to much trouble. A real homely country pub with great food and atmosphere. Just go there it's ace.

We had an underwhelming experience when eating at the Royal Oak last year but thought we'd try again as we were staying in the area. The pub is in a lovely village, the building is full of character, the beer is good, and the food is decent value 'pub grub'. It should be a great place to visit but the...

Very good pint at this traditional country pub. Went before our six mile walk. Came back after our six mile walk. Perfect! Staying with friends in the village, wondered whether we just had to settle for the pub that was there; no, this is very good, both for food and for the beer (or in my case, cider!)

I have been to this pub/hotel many times but this was my first visit for a couple of years. Lovely old building decorated in very hunting/shooting style which is in keeping with the local area. The weather was grey, dreary and cold, surprisingly neither bars had a fire going! There was a big log burner in the bar we sat...

Arrived about 9.30pm on a Friday, cottage, only a 1 min walk to pub. after long drive we fancied a drink. Went to the pub for 9.45pm and it had closed!!! Next day we went for lunch and arrived at 2pm....no hot food available as we were late....., so we're offered the cold menu, asked for 2 ploughman's but told...

We ate here twice whilst staying nearby; the food and service was excellent on both occasions. The beer is well-kept and Jake's dry wit adds immensely to the whole experience of dining at the Royal Oak. Very refreshing to find a truly unspoilt country inn which stays true to its history and hasn't become just another sanitised 'theme pub'. We'll...

Dropped in here whilst walking Exmoor and just didn't want to leave. The bar is old , adorned with usual Exmoor antlers , dark but friendly . Great roast lunch , very good beer and a super stop . We didn't look at the rooms but the newer part of the hotel looked worth investigating

After a gorgeous morning walking, we booked for lunch at the Royal Oak. Place was very busy only the bar area open. Food was awesome and such large portions, couldn't fault. Only thing is it was a little cold.
