There is a large car park to the rear of the hotel & then a lift to get you upto the ground floor. We then made our way to reception, we checked in which was easy & told where our rooms were (porters were available if required).
I think I had the same room as my previous stay. We then unpacked & then made our to the spa, where we we met & explained where things were the changing facilities were good & clean. The pool was a good size 54’ (not the 54” on the app) even though it was a kidney shape you could get 4 or 5 people swimming in it without too much trouble, we didn’t try out the spa bath, sauna or steam room.
The hotel is getting a bit tired around the edges now & could do with some updates, however this would probably incur some increase in prices, the public areas were fine though.
The Metropole is in a good location to tour mid Wales attractions & coast line, just don’t expect everything to be perfect. The bills were put under our room doors so we could check them prior to checking out which was a nice touch. There are separate reviews for the restaurants.

Service was really good from the start to finish and the food was very much like home-made , mum’s type dinner!
Rooms in general are in dire need of refurbishment - not because they are worn, but because they are just very, very traditional.
If you expect a warm welcome, home-made food, traditional rooms and a super publication you won’t go far wrong.
Dinner was traditional, three course and cost just over £30 per person

For example, the warm welcome was tarnished when the receptionist declared the total amount to pay so my family heard. This would be best left discrete for a host of reasons.
The rooms were spacious, but dated - there's no plugs next to the beds, and the ones in the room are not USB, so you need your charger plug (as well as cable).
Breakfast was ok - cooked buffet, fruit salad, toast, mini pastries (that looked dry), and cereals. They only had soup bowls or plates, no fruit/cereal bowls.
The spa facilities were clean, and functional. I noticed others were given a jug of water and disposable cups, though we were not. There was no water fountain to either top up own bottles or the jugs - this would be a simple and effective solution. Very limited relaxing chairs by the pool - I noted 2 that had foot rest, and 6 standard wicker chairs only. There were no stools to perch on whilst drying your hair and it had no ventilation rendering the mirrors too steamed up to see. I was quite shocked a 4**** hotel and spa used a green wheelie bin for clients to put their used towels in. It just didn't exude spa class with that finish.
Sadly, it wasn't worth the price for us.
We were all severely disappointed
The lounge area was cold
Corridors were cold
Tables were not wiped down
Room was dated and needed clearer instructions on the heating available
Windows wouldn't stay open
3 course dinner was one of the worst meals I have ever eaten in a hotel
Tempura prawns were basically from Iceland
The beef dinner was truly awful, grey over cooked meat
A soggy rubbery Yorkshire pudding
Strangely flavoured cabbage
And everything smothered in a lacklustre gravy
And a cheese board that was uninspiring (and had the most basic cracker options inc. Cheddars!!!!
The wine was about the only decent thing we consumed (and was overpriced).
breakfast was only marginally less bad
Bacon barely cooked
Back pudding hard like a hocky puck
Coffee served out of a churn (no options available)
Stale cheap bread for toast
The best bit of the hotel was seeing it in the rear view mirror when we left
I can’t fault the service and the staff are excellent and hard working.
Such a shame
The hotel is very impressive from the outside , with a massive car park in the middle of this very small town . Reception , bars and dining room nicely furnished , a little worn but clean . The spa area is excellent , I used the gym and the pool looked great .
The food is very good , plenty of choice and good quality served quickly and efficiently by a helpful friendly team .
There was entertainment put on for three nights - not our preference , but was a welcome distraction as there’s nothing else to do in the evening .
Our room , 431 is a 4th floor ‘attic space ‘ - the only way I can describe it . Whilst clean , it is small with little character . Unfortunately we have been here during a heat wave , although we asked for a fan this did nothing to ease the soaring temperature and sleep was nigh on impossible. The windows are two thirds of the way up the wall and cannot be opened any more than a few inches . However the bed was comfortable with good linens .
The bathroom , although modern with a good shower , is controlled by a light that comes on automatically when you enter . There is no way of stopping this so in the middle of the night the bedroom is flooded with light . Then after you leave the room and shut the door , it stays on for a time then you get about 30 seconds of loud clicks before it turns off - very annoying .
On reflection I wished I’d asked if it was possible to change rooms when we arrived but most people we spoke to complained about the heat in their rooms . We had asked for a quiet room , which I admit we had , however I would recommend that people stay well away from 431 .
"Take the early check in and afternoon tea option. Try a tower room if you want that extra luxury. If you appreciate good service and they deliver it then tell them. "Read full review
"I didn’t stay here so cannot comment on the rooms. Don’t be put off by this being a big hotel. If you just want a cuppa, call in. "Read full review
