The standard of accommodation and service at Jao Camp was exceptional. We were lucky to be there at a quiet time of year so were able to fully enjoy communing with nature. The wildlife we saw on game drives/boat trips was staggering - especially the bird life. A stay never to be forgotten

Jao camp was the first stop on our visit to Botswana - and proved very hard to beat! The camp itself is beautiful - absolutely incredible views out from the rooms - with a luxurious bath and outdoor shower (as well as indoor shower - but with that view why would you shower inside?!) and thoughtful touches at turndown each... I can't say enough positive stuff about this lodge, it dropped my jaw from the moment we arrived. The games drives or boat rides are spectacular, the lodge is a place you never want to leave, the staff is incredibly friendly. This is a must visit spot in the Delta, treat yourself to the best.

Dear PilotMichael_L, Thank you for your beautiful feedback, we are overjoyed to have been a part of your fabulous memories. We were also lucky to watch our semi-resident spotted-necked otters frolicking – nothing quite like lunch being interrupted by the otters’ wake appearing in the lagoon in front of the main area. Interruptions in the middle of a group orientation... More

Thank you everyone for the most unbelievable experience! Johnny (our guide) was a mountain of knowledge and the most delightful character. Service was outstanding - in fact I would give the camp and the staff a 10/10 in every way - super impressed! Note: no internet or signal.

Thank you Michelle L, for your beautiful and humbling words, we cannot wait to share them with all the staff in camp. Guests were treated to the rare sight of a Verreaux’s eagle-owl catching its prey one evening… the dinner-time calm was disrupted by a green-pigeon flying into the dining area, clearly attempting to escape the owl, only to be... Jao was exquisite; where to start. The rooms were amazing and to wake up with that view is something that no words can describe. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful, the food was delectable, the spa was top notch... I could go on and on about this place. I can't wait to go back.

Dear Gavin S, Thank you for your fabulous review, we are delighted to see what a great stay you had with us. The floodplain near Jao featured strongly this month in activities for guests, with sundowners, bush brunches and champagne stops for honeymoon couples. Sundowners at our airstrip jetty are always an enjoyable experience too, though one night they nearly... More

We were incredibly well looked after from start to finish, in a beautiful lodge with exquisite long rooms along the banks of the Delta. Nothing was too much trouble and every detail had been considered. This is a fantastic lodge for those looking to reach the wilds of Africa without facing the hardships such remoteness often entails.

This bush camp is located in the Okavango Delta, which is a spectacular place for both water and land game drives. Jao is absolutely beautiful. It's a great place to actually relax. Lovely place to end a safari trip after a few days of getting up early in the morning to go searching for leopards and wild dogs. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A sophisticated and hidden Okavango Delta retreat.Located on a large island in the heart of the Okavango, Jao Camp’s individually handcrafted and luxurious tents look out onto the essence of the Delta – swathes of water, swaying reeds, leaping lechwe and dancing cranes. The main area is an elaborate two-storey wooden structure with lounge and dining area, two plunge pools, a library, curio shop and boma for dining under the stars, complemented by an excellent wine cellar. An award-winning spa and gym epitomise luxury in the most remote, scenically splendid setting.HighlightsJao’s position – amongst waterways and lagoons, yet close to dry Kalahari woodland – means you can enjoy both land and water experiences, depending on the time of year and the level of the waters that move ceaselessly through the area. Here, spectacular herds of red lechwe are followed by lion and leopard, while other game includes tsessebe, giraffe, elephant, hippo and crocodile, occasional sitatunga and regular spotted-necked otter. Experiences: Mokoro • Boating (seasonal) • Seasonal catch-and-release fishing • Day and night game drives • Seasonal hide for sleep-outs or game viewing ... more   less
