I will start with the pros: Good view and nice landscape. Cons: Sleeping with cockroaches - «  daddy cockroaches 🪳 was on the bed 🛌 , mommy 🪳 was on the floor. We asked to spray the room - they didn’t have a bug spray. So.. We moved to a different room. There, we found «  baby 🪳 « !!!! We didn’t sleep all night ! Breakfast and dinner - weren’t good at all. We were 8 people, none of us liked the meals. It was horrible. We came with a driver, which I notified the hotel ahead of time. They offered free room for him. When it was time for check-out, they asked me to pay for his room! ( thankfully, I had the email, that showed it should be free) .

Setam Lodge looks really cute from the outside and its grounds are fabulous, they must have come great gardeners on hand as they have some beaitufl flowers in the grounds. The rooms are very basic and feel rather dark, but a positive was that the rooms do have mosquito nets over the beds. The shower was not one you could stand under, it was more of a hand shower with luke warm water, it serves the purpose of getting clear but doesn't offer a nice relaxing shower after a long trek. There was no kettle or fridge in the room. It was very tidy and housekeeping kept it very tidy. The food in the restaurant was average, at first we thought all 3 courses for mandatory but actually you can just order the individual courses you need and they charge you accordingly. The lighting in the restaurant made it feel a little bit like an office room, made for a strange atmosphere. Breakfast included yogurt, fruit, traditional homemade breakfast item and eggs.

Right near the entrance to Ranomafana National Park, making hikes there easy to access. Good restaurant, helpful staff, well-kept grounds, all in all a very pleasant place. Rooms were cozy and clean, couldn't ask for more.

The compound was lovely, and I noticed there was special care taken to gardening around the space - there were people pottering about watering plants and tending all the lovely flowers and plants with great care all day, and the effect was very pretty and soothing. The views were almost surreally beautiful from the dining area though from my own bungalow my main view was of the bungalow in front of me so I wasn't particularly lucky there. As with a number of other lodges, wi-fi was only available in the dining area. Lighting in every space was poor but in the bedroom especially so. Ventilation once all the windows were closed to keep out bugs and things at night was very poor (for some reason Madagascans don't seem to use the wire meshes across windows that we use in other countries with mosquito issues, I'm not sure why), and the floor fan that was in the room could only be used with my adaptor (which means I couldn't charge anything else overnight) but it did help with the stuffiness. During the day the rooms are left very open (and they're clean and affectionately decorated, they even put a little vase of flowers in my room which was a nice touch), as is the compound itself; I was a little nervous about security in this case so made sure to always lock my suitcase and carry my laptop and phone and other valuables with me everywhere which was a bit of a pain but best to be on the safe side. The towels were clean and soft (much nicer than a similarly priced lodge I stayed at near Andasibe-Mantadia) and the food was excellent. The American breakfast was huge compared to other places I've been to, almost intimidatingly so. I was told every evening to be wary of power-cuts and borrowed a flashlight from one of the staff and walked around with it all night in fear of the cuts but they never happened as long as I was awake (usually until about midnight). The hot water was good and after a few hours of climbing up and down the rainforest trails, the excellent shower with easily moderated temperature was a relief. It seemed like a quiet, restful place (but not isolating, there's always a little bit of a buzz of staff pottering around and chatting and such) and I'm sure even more pleasant when the weather is much cooler. Just be wary of the steep stone staircases (with lots of beautifully coloured geckos in the afternoon to look out for) if you're a little out of shape as I am!

Convenient location with serene views from all bungalows. Room a bit spartan, mattress and pillow rock-hard. No comfortable place to sit. Friendly staff, food not great. Credit card machine "broken". When I said "What if I don't have enough cash?", the clerk suggested that perhaps my driver could lend me some. The Euro exchange rate they gave me was 3,600 ariarys per Euro, compared with 3900 at the airport.
