The facility itself is beautiful, and the rooms are very comfortable and quiet. The restaurant was only okay, with no working wi-fi while we were there (the only place in East Africa that we had that problem). There are decent restaurants not too far away, though. The made to order breakfast was good. The staff was also just okay. Not the professional hotel we expected based on one month in that part of the world.

When we enter the room our mouth literally falls open; wow what a beautiful spacious room and in the bath maker we can easily accommodate the entire village. Superhotel! The menu is unfortunately very limited and we only have a choice between two main courses. We are a bit disappointed, but that is more than made up for afterwards because it tastes excellent.

Stayed here for two nights while we explored the park. Rooms are in 1-2 story buildings on small but lush garden grounds. We had a ground floor room with king bed, no mosquito nets - although didn't seem to be any mosquitos even though it's in the rain forest. Spacious room and bathroom, attractive modern design. Glass doors open right onto the courtyard and a few steps to the restaurant (good food) in a separate building. There is a covered terrace area with lounge chairs outside the restaurant to hang out. Lobby in same building as the restaurant with some seating. Flight of stairs leading down from the hotel to the gate and the small but colorful village outside - safe and interesting to wander around. This is a also good place to get spices (all kinds of peppers) from the girls and kids carrying trays of their selections (all more or less the same) - you kind of get mobbed by them if you show interest in buying but in a friendly and cheerful way. Great for gifts - 10k malagasy ariary (about US$2.50) for packets of three, vanilla cost a bit more.

Hotel was modern, clean, room was big with good aircon (tip: leave it on while you're out or it gets hot!) and good value for money. Hot water was good, bathroom floor was a bit slippy, but just ask for an extra towel and put it on the floor. The only thing negative I'd say is that we stayed 2 nights and they didn't clean / make up the room at all. Overall, I really don't know why this place doesn't have a higher review score. The location is about a 10min drive from the park entrance (like a lot of other accomodation) on the edge of the village (zero noise). The village makes for a nice wander, or just buy a beer and watch the local kids play football at sunset on the nearby field. We didn't go to the hot springs, but they're just across the bridge. They are in the process of finishing the spa at the hotel, and the outdoor hot tubs when it's done will be amazing! Meanwhile there are treatment rooms and my massage was great - most expensive one of the trip but still only 24eur! Reservation was easy by email, but they are missing a card machine, so take cash. Reception staff called a guide to talk us through the hiking options in the park when we enquired - we did what seemed to be a classic 4 hour walk and saw 3 different kinds of lemurs. We also did the night walk by the side of the road and saw a mouse lemur and a number of chameleons. Food was decent with plenty of vegetarian options. They also have a big selection of rum arrange to try. 10 eur for breakfast is a little on the steep side though. Lots of little frogs if you take a torch outside at night :)

Here's another 3 star review for a Madagascar lodge. Another reviewer said it well that for a country that tries (and needs) to attract more tourists the lodges have a long way to go regarding food and service. The Thermal Hotel is no exception to that. We stayed here 3 nights as part of our 3 week stay. First the good: - Rooms were large - The grounds are nice and were fun to walk around in at night - Our first dinner there was one of the best of the trip - They did accommodate my wife's dietary restrictions and seemed to give her better food than the rest of us got Now the bad: - Poor light in the bathroom made it hard to see - Stupid sink design with a huge sink but a faucet that barely reached into the sink so you couldn't wash your hands easily and water went all over the counter - The most lumpy pillows of the trip - They never made up our room in 3 days! - They provided 1 bottle of water the first day and that was it - We had laundry done which was nice but it didn't come back smelling that fresh - Other than that first dinner the meals were below average. One of our worst meals of the trip was bony tilapia that I had to send back and they made me an omelet instead. - As others have mentioned there are limited choices so if you don't like either option for dinner you are out of luck. - There were no screens on the windows of our room so we couldn't open them to let in fresh air since that would also bring in bugs (to be fair we didn't see many bugs there though) So, while this lodge has a long way to go it still might be the best option in the area. We had a horrible lunch at the Setam lodge with panhandlers out front so that doesn't seem any better of an option.
