Firstly I will say we were taken to this location to see if we would consider staying on our next visit to Rwanda. As this was couched as a very expensive exclusive lodge in a super location and of a standard we would expect. I can categorically state following the unfriendly reception we would not revisit. The views are superb... More

This lodge is more magical than the pictures. From the second you arrive you are taken care of. Stunning views, variety of activities, warm staff and off the grid. My only advice is to arrive early to soak up the landscape and amenities. Spoiler alert: get ready to be spoiled. We will absolutely be back!

We absolutely loved our stay at Virunga Lodge! The little villas are gorgeous and have amazing views over Volcano National Park. The lodge has a ski lodge type feel and is so cosy and warm. The staff are amazing and it is lovely to wake up to a coffee sitting on your patio in the morning. They even cleaned our... More

Amazing location overlooking the lakes and surrounding volcanoes. Food is good and the restaurant service excellent. Atmosphere in the lounge and resto is extremely pleasant, always a good company of fellow travelers to talk to. Volcanos national park is spectacular and provides unforgettable experience with silver back gorillas. The lodge needs major improvements, though. * Electrical outlets in rooms for... More

The lodge is beautiful..but a little run-down and in need of a renovation. The drive up the mountain to get to this place is quite a trek (even before you do the gorillas)...As the locals call the ride "An African Massage".... Very quaint and a bit isolated..It is an eco-lodge so no electric during the night. Food just OK

Strange how different people can have such different view of the same property, and I am a very picky traveller. I personally loved the lodge!! The views are spectacular the atmosphere sitting around the table at lunch or dinner talking about your experiences is just great and the staff extremely helpful and kind, the food was very good and varied... Just back from a solo trip to Rwanda where as like most others the purpose of the trip was to go Gorilla Trekking. I booked via Imagine Africa who i must say were fantastic, both in terms of initial helpfulness in securing everything (i only booked 2 weeks in advance!) but also in quality and speed of service. I arrived... More

We came to Virunga with high expectations but were disappointed on almost every count. This is the flagship of the Volcanoes Collection and billed (in every sense) a "luxury" lodge - but unfortunately the only luxurious aspect is the ridiculous price you pay. True, the views are spectacular but there it ends: - the rooms are large and nice enough... More

The siting of the lodge atop a mountain with the accompanying views is indeed stunning. And the rooms are relatively luxurious by Rwandan standards. I also found the food to be quite good and the service to be excellent However, several problems make the lodge less than ideal for a visit to the park : -Distance to the national park... More

We spent two nights at this lovely hotel while we went trekking with gorillas and golden monkies. It is further to get to the park entrance than the other hotels, but the views are worth the drive up the rough road. The rooms were really spacious, lots of hot water, and had great views. The sunsets from the deck at... More
