We spent a night at Ndarkwai right before beginning our trek on Kilimanjaro. What a wonderful place to relax and prepare before the big expedition! The staff is friendly, the accommodations luxurious - considering they are tents! - and the food is plentiful and tasty. Perhaps most fun of all, the place is surrounded by wildlife. In strolling the paths...

The staff were friendly, food good, bar well stocked for a place so remote. Wifi available too which was a pleasant surprise. Loved the tented rooms. They were beautiful and simply furnished. Touches of African fabric liven the room up. Every amenity you could want! Plenty of animals in their natural habitat to see. Made for a well controlled filming...

I just returned to Ndarakwai for the sixth year in a row, and while it is hard to believe, it keeps getting better. We started with a sunset trip to the "Treehouse", and waited while zebras, giraffes, warthogs, and wildebeest came for a drink at the watering hole. Night drives and a ranger-led walk at sunrise were highlights. It is...

After 5 weeks working at FAME hospital in Karatu with side trips and safaris in the Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Ngorogoro plusTarangire, I was ready for Ndarakwai Ranch. This place is amazing for so many reasons. I hope I can do it justice. First, the accommodations are top notch, 5 star all the way, in a fairly remote area. I had...

We came for four days of absolute bliss after doing the Northern Circuit and making it to the top of Kili; we were a family of 5 with offspring in their twenties. The tents are perfect, and perfectly thought through. Comfortable, waking up in the morning to a glorious dawn with animals wandering placidly by. The day safaris are fascinating;...

This time, I spent two full weeks at Ndarwkwai with two university students, studying wildlife. We stayed in Camp each night, venturing out into the beautiful Ranch during the day on foot or by guided, safari vehicle. Everyone we came in contact with has an enormous wealth of information to share with us, and the animals were abundant. There were...

This was my first time staying here and the staff is incredibly helpful and welcoming! All of our requests were met with enthusiasm and expertise. Asheri is the most knowledgeable guide that I have ever had, and was always happy to take us out on game drives to experience the thriving wildlife present on the ranch. We were served absolutely...

This is my third stay at Ndarakwai Ranch and they continue to nail every aspect of a stay...every time. Hands down my favorite property on the planet and I get to stay in some swank places for work. The food is amazing...lovely staff...wildlife everywhere. Would HIGHLY RECOMMEND making arrangements for sunset cocktails in the tree house. And if you're passing...

This camp is the most authentic place we stayed on our two week trip in the northern circuit. The tented camp is very luxurious and the room stewards even put a hot water bag in the bed when you go to dinner. The bed is very comfortable, which is a needed relief after safaris all day. They have hot water...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Started in 1994, Ndarakwai is a unique success story of land and wildlife rehabilitation, the first of its kind in Tanzania. With about 70 mammal species and over 350 bird species in a combination of high long grass plains, classic Acacia savannah, Commiphora thickets, and riparian habitats, a stay at Ndarakwai is a great addition to any safari itinerary. Ndarakwai Camp, with 14 large comfortable and individually decorated tents, is set at 4200 feet in the midst of an 11,000 acre privately-owned ranch in Siha District, West Kilimanjaro. Ndarakwai offers a high degree of personalized service, attention to detail, great food, as well as a wide variety of excellent wildlife related activities, cultural experiences, and excursions. What really sets us apart from National parks is our ability to offer half and full day walks with an experienced guide, as well as night game drives. These are two things you are not able to do in the parks. If it is birding on foot, or searching for nocturnal animals by spotlight, Ndarakwai is for you! Ndarakwai strives to be the best in luxury tented camping while maintaining the principles of responsible environmental stewardship. Extensive use of solar power (for electricity and hot water), the use of clay ovens for cooking, preference for local produce, combined with 11,000 protected acres of bush and woodland give confidence the camp is being established as carbon neutral. ... more   less
