This is an amazing place to stay if you're on a budget and even if you're not. We arrived early from Seoul with the intent to stay two days. James at reception (who speaks excellent English) asked us what we planned to do then sat us down with the Sokchu map. There was so much to see and he was so helpful that after he was done we amended our booking to three days. So far we have not been disappointed with Sokchu nor the James BLuE. The room is cosy but has towels, a good bed, AC, a mini-fridge and AC. Definitely more than I was expecting from a hostel. There are dorm rooms and private rooms. Breakfast is toast, jam and coffee/tea. The location is perfect for getting to the intercity bus terminal, busses to Seoraksan or just walking around Sokcho. It is one of the nicest, best value places I have ever stayed at!

Hostel. Double deck bed. Space is a little bit small. Hot water is available. No elevator. You have to bring your luggage up and down. Theres a common area on the first floor for everybody to eat. Eating is not allowed in the room. There is tv and wifi and aircon. The staff is nice. The room is clean. Location is near the restaurant and stores

The place is located not on a main road but side street. There is a sign however to locate the place. The place is small but clean. There is no elevator although the staff will help you for your luggage. The room is clean, average size and standard in amenities. Breakfast is simple. Good place to explore the city.

We stayed 2 nights there and would definitely recommend it. It's near the intercity bus terminal, the fishery and tourist market food stalls, a 7-eleven, bus stop to seorak---basically everywhere! The rooms aren't cramped either! And their pantry has a view of the sea. You can hang out there for late night snacks after hiking and meet some fellow guests. Upon check-in, you get a map and a rundown of all the good places to visit (in English, yes)! No elevators but the stairs aren't too narrow so don't worry about it. Basic toiletries r provided. Thanks for a fun stay, James! Note: A place called 88 restaurant is within walking distance. They serve all types of grilled fish!

Booked the hostel because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews. And the place lives up to what other travelers have to say. It's clean, comfortable and located right in the heart of Sokcho. You can walk from the bus terminal (a few blocks away) and the windows are facing the ocean. Breakfast are plenty and there are dart games in the dining room. I traveled with my 11-year-old son, and he loves the place so much. Our group consist of 4 children and 5 adults. So this place is perfect for families as well. Our room on the 3rd floor is spacious. The wall is pretty and there is this small table-chair set that I like a lot. But what we love is watching the sunrise from our room window. Sokcho Beach is well known for tourists welcoming the 1st sunrise of New Year and it's just nice to have that opportunity without stepping out of the warm room. The owner, James, is a real friendly guy. He speaks English well (a rare in downtown Sokcho) and is really helpful when it comes to direction. There's a convenient store nearby, and if you want to visit Sorak mountain, you just have to catch a bus from across the street (in front of a bank). Will stay here again when we have a chance to return to Sokcho.

It locates at the center of main city attractive places : Jungang market, 10,000 won buffet restaurant, Dongmyeong bus station(to and from Seoul), Dongmyeong Port, Abai village & Gaetbae boat and surrounded with restaurants and convenient stores. The hostel is clean and provides great hospitality & facilities. Breakfast is included in price. It is value for money to stay in this hostel.

We booked our stay from 10/3 to 10/4/2018 but left one day early and forfeit the money for the second night because of the very poor condition and service at this hostel. The owner, James, is a very nice person who gave us much recommendation for local activities and eateries. However, he was not much of further help toward his facility short comings we we complained. The hotel is easily located and conveniently located close enough to the Inter-City Bus Terminal but it is away from all other activities (beaches, lake, park, shopping, open market - Shi-jang, and eateries). It is a fairly long walk to all of those locations if one is not accustomed to long walks. The room that we booked for two was small but reasonable enough for the price and place to sleep. It was surprisingly dirty for the Korean cleanliness standard. The floor was full of sand, there was fuzz-balls between the bed and the wall. Under the bed was a serious collection of trash, dirt, and debris. When we asked James for a broom to sweep up the dirt, he gave us a small mop so that we can do the cleaning (rather have housekeeping to clean up the room). The TV could not be turned on so we called the front desk but there was no answer. We walked down and was told how to trouble shoot the problem on our own. No one bothered to come up to make sure that it works. The bed is a Korean style bed which is no more than a box springs for those of us who sleep on more comfortable beds (my wife who is accustomed to sleeping on Korean style beds was not able to sleep on that bed). There was no view from inside of the room (Just the four walls and "fake window". The breakfast? Well, the coffee was consisted of a coffee stained water that clear enough that one can read the newspaper through. There was a loaf of bread and some cereals available if one wants to make a toast or eat which we decide not to and went off location for real coffee. We decided to check out the next morning at 7:40 AM but was told that there would be no refund (refund or not, we would not have stay). In hindsight, we should have spent more money for a nice place with a nicer room for our visit.

We stayed here for a night and it was really nice. We choose the on-dol room to sleep in the 'Korean way'. The room was clean and really pretty. James and his parents are really nice and James speak English very well. The guesthouse is near the bus station and very easy to find. The breakfast is include and the price are really reasonable. The common area is nice and you even have a terrace so it's great when the weather is good.
