My family and I travelled the inter-city bus from Seoul to Sokcho and then stayed 3 nights at this 3-star hotel in the resort city of Sokcho. Hotel location: The 70-plus room Pampas Hotel is within 5 minutes’ walk from the Bus Station – exit the front of Bus Station and you could see the brown building diagonally west; cross the traffic junction and walk along Donghae-daero road until you see a small road with the Pampas Hotel signboard. A couple of steps more and Pampas Hotel would greet you with its bronze-glazed entrance and huge lighted foyer shelter. The hotel is also about 4 minutes’ walk to the Sokcho Ferris Wheel and Sokcho Beach as well as convenience stores (like CU) and dining restaurants (the hotel restaurant was closed). The hotel has a large car-park. Hotel Staff: We arrived at the Pampas Hotel on a Monday at 1 pm. Because of the strict “check-in after 3 pm” policy, the receptionist was kind to let us store our luggage bags under lock and key in the huge lockers located in front of the reception so that we could head to the Sokcho attractions in the meantime. When my family and I came back later, the receptionist then checked us in using simple English and provided us with a very useful “Pampas Resort Room Guide” sheet in English with instructions on the use of gas stove, air conditioner, central heating, outdoor barbeque etc. The staff emphasised that the check out time is 11 am and not 12 noon. Hotel Room: We stayed in two separate yet adjacent Standard Room on the third floor. When I entered the huge room, I was greeted by a pleasant brown and white theme and the wooden parquet floor. It came with a queen bed, wall mounted TV, wooden dining table and 4 chairs, clothes hanger stand, dressing/work table, wall mirror next to window and a kitchenette that is equipped with a rice cooker, conventional oven, refrigerator, kettle, frying pan, utensils etc. I liked the following about the hotel room: (1) It was huge and clean (2) It has the fabulous view of the Sokcho Eye and part of the Sokcho Beach (3) Free or complimentary wireless internet (4) There was a descending life line underneath the table in case of a fire I disliked the following about the room: (1) There was no room service for stays that are less than 4 nights. (2) The hotel would not provide bottled water and disposable amenities such as toothbrush. (3) The bath towels were too small and extra towels and soap had to be obtained from the front desk (4) There was no door for the bathroom shower area such that you could feel the cold air draft during bathing. (5) While we could open the windows to let in the cold air during the autumn evenings, insects also flew in. Hence we had to request for air-con controller to cool the huge room. However, the air-con controller was quite difficult to use. Well, we accepted the fact that this hotel is in Sokcho and not Seoul, so we have to lower my expectations. Nevertheless, my family and I had a pleasant stay – and we just wished we were pampered more, especially when this is a Resort hotel.…

We stayed here for three nights as there was little availability over a weekend in Sokcho as we had left it late to book. However , the Pampas resort served a purpose. Rooms are big with a kitchen. However they do not clean the rooms during your stay which is a shame. Public areas such as lifts and corridors could do with a lick of paint. This hotel is fine to stay in but could be better with a daily cleaning service and a few tins of paint on the walls.

The hotel was under a complete makeover. Luckily they already completed the rooms and the new room was clean and neat. The outside of the hotel was still undergoing renovation and from what I saw, the new exterior panels they are installing look dangerous and inadequately secured. The hotel staff were courteous and were quick to respond to any housekeeping requests. At the time of our stay, there were warnings pasted on the room windows to warn guests to keep their windows closed due to contractors doing works right outside the windows. The front office staff also told us to keep the windows and curtains closed. In a way, the room was stuffy due to this and the fact that we weren't allowed to use the aircon since it was spring season. I would recommend staying here but hopefully they finish the renovations quickly. The hotel is well located near to the sokcho bus terminal, the beach and Emart. Expect a chalet feel rather than a full service hotel as rooms are not cleaned until checkout - though they do change your towels and give you new soaps. There is NO SHAMPOO provided. Also as with many of these "hotels", they will only provide you with tiny korean bath towels. …
