If you are looking for a peaceful and authentic experience of the backwaters in Kerala then this is your place. Away from the beaten track and set in nice gardens, with direct access to the backwaters. The owners have refurbished and developed this small resort with taste, and provided high quality service throughout our stay. Bruce and Dilip were attentive...

Spent two incredible nights in these wonderful rooms, just enjoying the grounds. The cabins are all built from aged wood in the traditional style- some of the most authentic architecture we saw during our visit to India! You could almost spend your whole time studying the buildings. It was easy enough to walk to the beach, but we found ourselves...

Stayed in a cabin for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Travelling with a 1 year old can be somewhat challenging, but with the help of Bruce and other staff we were able to get meals tailored to our dietary needs all the while eating typical Kerala fare. Isolated and private, winding down is the name of the game here....

Heritage Marari is a cozy place well worth recommending. The owners Bruce and Dilip are very nice and friendly and the food they serve tastes amazing! I also highly recomend the "bird-watching boat-trip" they offer because it is magic! I would love to return one day.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Heritage Marari, a boutique resort with four traditionally built Keralian houses (Tharawad, restored and recreated) located ten minutes from Marari beach. The rooms have beds and furniture that we've sourced from traditional homes and the famed craftsmen of the region. Furnishings too rely on local materials, offset with linen, rough-woven cotton and other natural fabrics. Our promise is to provide as much care, comfort and peace you would get in a star-rated hotel, with the personal and sociable touch that is synonymous with Home Stays. Your host Bruce is always available to help you settle comfortably in your rooms. Being a local from a well respected family, he brings you tales of the bygone generations and can guide you through the soul of this fishermen's' village called Marari. Ours is the only property around Marari which is on the backwaters and has access to the beach directly by canoe and by foot. ... more   less
