This was our first time in the Dominican Republic. We went with friends that have been several times. Our first trip did not disappoint. The resort was beautiful. Our room was spacious, and we loved the swim up room we splurged on. I was was apprehensive about traveling during the pandemic but felt extremely safe with all of the safety precautions they had in place. And the people there at the resort were amazing. They made us feel welcome and ensured that we were enjoying our stay. Adonis our butler was very attentive and helpful. Angelina, our waitress for breakfast every morning, helped us practice our spanish every morning. Alejandro in charge of activities was so fun. Ronyel at the pool made sure we always had drinks. And Kharen in the spa gave one of the best massages I have ever had. It was a great trip and we can't wait to go back.…
My wife surprised me with a birthday weekend at the Grand Reserve. It's a very new facility that is part of the Melia complex that we've visited many times. From our arrival, we were impressed! The first feelings on arrival continued through our departure, and I will try to objectify some of my observations. We had a personal concierge that was very service oriented, personable and professional. Ours knew the facilities and gave us space. He wasn't pushy with up-selling but helped us with our room/suite and reservations for the Japanese grill and the steak house. He was concerned with us having a perfect stay. The staff overall were an effective team for our stay. I've found that the quality of my experience in a resort hotel was based on the way it is managed. On arrival, the manager greeted us at the desk and made known that we could request his attention at any time. With the pandemic, real measures are being taken, in all facets of the operation. We saw constant cleaning of surfaces after guests left, such as tables or the desk. Everyone was wearing masks and there was a lot of distancing, in the restaurants and public areas. There weren't many other guests, but staffing was sufficient to keep wait times minimum to non-existent. Distances are always an issue in resorts. There is access to pools from the ground floor rooms. There are many activities that we didn't observe or participate in when it comes to the pools. This hotel is not on the beach, but is just a few minutes away on a tram, or about a 10 minute walk, with many tropical flowers on the way. The hotel is designed so you don't have long distances between your room and the restaurants and lobby.…
We have stayed at the Family concierge and the Grand Reserve a total of 3 times in the past and had wonderful experiences. We are booked to go again in April 2021 this time with four other families that we convinced to come with us. BUT we cannot get through to anyone regarding some questions and concerns we have. We have tried to call several times and either the person on the other end is not sure of the answer or they transfer us to another extension where no one answers. We finally contacted through wattsapp our old concierge Carolina, because we wanted to know if the main property is open for restaurants and pools and activities and what are the times and ages of the kids club. Finally after getting frustrated, we are thinking of cancelling the trip altogether as we have free cancellation and booking with Onyx Now resort as they were able to get on the phone right away and answer all our questions, and everything apparently is open. It's unfortunate as we have loved the grand reserve in the past but cannot afford to have five families come there with kids and be disappointed…
I can’t believe I’m writing a review before our actual stay begins. I’m very very disappointed at how we were tricked and deceived. In 2019 we stayed at The Reserve (loved it there). The Grand Reserve was new at that time and Melia offered a 1 day visit to check out that resort. We just had to attend a time share presentation and we can avail the 1 day access to The Grand Reserve. At the end of presentation, as much as we loved their facility, and we loved the swim-up suite that was shown to us, we turned down the time share. We were about to leave when an employee checked in on us if the presentation was good and if we were treated with kindness. Then he moved on and said what if we book a reservation that we can use within 2 years. We only have to pay $2500 and we get the same room that we saw during the presentation, which was the swimp-up suite. Oh boy were we excited. My husband went back to sign the contract. One of the biggest mistake was he didn’t read carefully what type of room he was signing for. We relied so much on what the staff said and trusted his verbal consent, but when it came to the written, the One Bedroom Suite with swim-up turned into just ONE BEDROOM SUITE. They told us they will send us a copy of the signed contract. WE NEVER DID. We trusted their words soooo much we didn’t mind getting the contract. Ffwd to now, we claimed what we paid for for 1 year and were shocked that the reserved room is just a one bedroom suite. We did get a hold of the guessed services and she showed us the contract we signed. There it was in fine print about the type of room we actually booked. We tried telling her that that wasn’t the room that was promised to us, but what can we do? The contract was already initialed. If we had known that this company is deceitful we would’ve asked for that contract within 7 days after it was signed coz we would have cancelled it. I checked out the website and we paid more than what is offered on their site. How was this a promotion? We booked it two years ago coz we thought we were gonna save money and thought it was a good deal to get the swim up for $2500. But nope.. we’re actually paying MORE. I tried to ask for an upgrade and see if we can just pay the difference of the price from the website. I saw the website offers 2500 for 3 people stay for 7 days. But they won’t, we’ll have to pay additional 1k for an upgrade. We were looking forward to this vacation since we booked it. We did love their resort amenities. But that excitement now is turned into anxiety. Our vacation hasn’t started and I’m already stressed out. We would’ve saved even more if we booked our stay on our own. By the looks of it we’re paying WAYYYYYY more than what we should be paying. This is a lesson learn for us. We haven’t arrived at the resort and I’ll be updating my review for our 7 day stay. I’m so disappointed that we became a victim of this scheme. We’ll see how it goes when we check in.…
Our experience at the Grand Reserve was made memorable thanks to the people that work here. In particular, I’d like to highlight Candido and Ermogenes from the Mangu Restaurant, Marilin our breakfast buffet waitress throughout our stay and last but not least Kenya, our concierge. They were attentive, employed the highest quality of customer service and made us feel like family. In regards to the hotel installations, we had a few hiccups which I would not have expected from a property of this caliber. We hope to return in the near future, hoping that the experiences shared with management during our stay are taken seriously and into consideration.
