The wellness center had everything I needed to get a great workout. Yenny was very friendly and his English was very good which helped since my Spanish is not great. It was cool and comfortable in there. Thanks Yenny for a pleasant experience. See you again

Hotel's Favourite
In a nutshell - the best overall resort experience I've ever had! Collectively, our group of 6 unanimously agreed. AND WE WERE NOT LEVEL. Just regular guests. So many reviews on this site are from Level guests so we really had no idea before we arrived of the non Level experience. As we were there for two weeks (Apr 1-15), I'll start with the most important reason the resort is so wonderful - the staff! To start our day, my friend and I went to the Balance Bar every morning for coffee/tea/smoothies and a few little pastries. YANELITZA, the barista there was amazing and always happy to see us!!! I enjoyed americanos with the odd cappucino every now and then and my friend, Yvette, had English Breakfast tea. We also enjoyed the smoothies from time to time which were fresh and fabulous as well as some of the specialty teas made daily. Now that I'm home, I'm wondering how I can survive each morning without that joyous start to the day where we sat in a beautiful airy breezeway with a colourful companion - the resident peacock - who would stop by to visit from time to time. A huge shout out to YANELITZA, our morning saviour who was some days accompanied by Adriana who was also lovely. To note, on the day we left, Yanelitza met us with a surprise delivery of our smoothies to the lobby! After the Balance Bar, we headed back to our room to get ready to hit the glorious beach. Our rooms were so very close to the lobby in building 19 (ours was 1916 - 2nd floor room overlooking the main thoroughfare to and from the beach and lush landscaping including a little lagoon with pink flamingos and other wildlife). We loved the location as at night, all the entertainment took place there and the evening buffet was a one minute walk. The peacock mentioned earlier took up residence in a tree near the room so we said hello along the way. The beach and pool were a short trolley ride away. They ran continuously and the drivers were always friendly and helpful. If we didn't want to wait, we walked - and the drivers would stop to ask when passing if we wanted a ride. Back to the room, we had everything we needed. Comfortable beds and pillows, a well stocked mini fridge and a sweet, young cleaner who took great care of us. Never any shortage of towels or toilet paper - the basics for sure but these are things we have had to fight to get at many other resorts. Beach towels were never an issue and if your towel went missing, the helpful staff at the front desk went out of their way to ease your mind and provide a new card. Customer relations at the resort were also amazing - Antonio and Armondo and several others truly went above and beyond to ensure we had the best guest experience. My friend will elaborate in her review on her interactions with both of these gentleman and others as she was their direct point of contact. The beach was our main retreat throughout the days and the pool from 5-7 pm was a great respite for our five o'clock Cosmo. Although there was some seaweed, it never hampered our ability to swim. The men on the beach worked tirelessly in the hot sun to clean it and we were in awe by their efforts. If you can, please show them some appreciation - they have very little. Beach chairs were never hard to find but a hut was more difficult...by noon, we could usually nab one but some days were harder and later than others. Activities at the beach and pool were many and varied such as mud cleansing, Pilates, yoga, dance lessons, spin bikes in the pool, aquafit, painting, paddle fit you name it! More about the animation team below...much more! As for the food quality/quantity, everywhere and anywhere we ate was divine. We all agreed, the best of any experience we have had. The breakfast and lunch buffets at the beach, the food truck by the pool bar, the dinner buffet by the lobby and all the restaurants we tried (we did the Vietnamese, the International, the Mediterranean, Quimera (thanks to Antonio/Armondo) and the Hacienda. We loved each and every one. We could have eaten at a few more a la cartes given we were there for two weeks but the buffet was soooooo good, we didn't bother. The pasta chef at the nighttime buffet deserves a special shoutout...he was quite funny and went out of his way to make a great pasta. LAST BUT NOT LEAST IS THE FANTASTIC ANIMATION TEAM - a VERY, VERY SPECIAL SHOUTOUT to our great friends JAVIER (my future son-in-law lol) AND CLAUDIO who were just the best humans (NOT TO MENTION DANCERS) and who even organized a surprise birthday party for our friend, Theresa. It took place in the "Zen" room (as we labelled it) in the main lobby. They spear headed the event with one of the lobby waitresses, "Queen Moon" (Rena) independently. The management was on board and also there to greet us after dinner with Claudio, Javier, Rena, Ningel and Coca Cola (aka) with champagne and cake and the best rendition of happy birthday. Javier and Claudio even purchased gifts for our friend from the hotel shop. She was in tears...and we could not believe how they had gone out of their way to decorate and organize the event. These people deserve soooo much credit. In the daytime, this team also led many of the pool and beach events. They work so hard but always took the time to talk and hang out. Fun, smart, respectful, talented and professional. They truly made our trip so memorable and are the main reason we'd definitely return. The animation team was led by their tireless manager, Pablo, who was anywhere and everywhere - very engaged and respected by his team - the quality of the entertainment he procured was stellar from top quality musicians to singers to shows. He and the animation team had the lobby jamming and dancing through the night. Special mention was the Silent Party which was a first for us and probably our favourite event besides the Walk Around the Moon event - something we hadn't heard of before. So fun. We danced pretty much every night away in the lobby. Special shoutout to the night bar gents who were superb - the waitresses - RENA AND MODESTO, and others who we came to know and love. These lobby teams were simply amazing during the entire two weeks. Also, not to forget JOSE at the beach bar who was the BEST. He hustled day in and day out and stood out for sure. Finally, our waitress in the lunch buffet who was in the corner near the grill and bar. Her name escapes me right now but my friend Yvette will make mention in her review. Do not hesitate to book this resort. the demographic was young to old. It truly fits the bill as a wellness resort but so very fun at the same time - we came back rested and rejuvenated (although we made the most of each and every day and night...)! A few final points: The grounds are spectacular in and of themselves. We felt very safe - security team did a great job, The maintenance and gardening teams were superb - always at work cleaning and pruning and so very friendly. Overall, we felt very welcomed and pampered. I can't say enough. We cannot wait to return. We hope to see you again next year! THANK YOU ALL. Love from the Halifax, Nova Scotia gals: Lynn, Yvette, Theresa, Heidi, Carol Ann and Gwen

Well here is my honest review of Melia Punta Cana wellness We stayed at the level I can say this if your not level they will hound you to up charge everything so go level if not you will be picked out of a crowd and asked to purchase all kinds of stuff . Now to the issue of mosquitos anyone tells you on here there’s no mosquitos their full of it take bug spray !! Now the issue NO ONE WANTS TO MENTION the smell of raw sewage between the lobby and the level area not good. now we were in building 7 ground floor facing the lobby mosquitoes sucked. taking a shower smell raw sewage noise until 5-530 from the kids splash water park (someone on this group said no you can’t hear the kids that was a lie ) oh did I mention COCKROACHES yes that’s rite cockroaches in the room 3 days into a 7 day stay wife had 1 on the bathroom sink called the butler ok I send fumigation sends a guy with raid I asked fumigation guy are they normal in the room ( being in the Caribbean I understand the heat moisture) guy say no not normal and after seeing it after I killed it he oh no not normal butler shows up with mgt. Mgt lady she says oh it’s normal ( so who do you believe regularly workers or Mgt for me I’ll believe regularly workers before mgt ) so they send someone next day tells us to stay out of the room all day ok no problem next day all good day after that sitting in the John here comes another one even house keeping said this is not normal ( so now when we get home we have to leave all our clothes and suitcase out in our detached garage and shake out the clothes and fumigate our luggage) Now tipping and drinks. Tipping isn’t worth it we tipped very well drinks were still weak and they didn’t care. Music forget about it a speaker not allowed and ear buds they play their Spanish music so loud drowns out your ear buds. Now food it’s ok for the most part decent flavor but they ask all the time even our butler asked about food allergies I told everyone my wife is deathly allergic to strawberries between service and butler did not care !!!!!! Butler said he wanted to do something for the wife’s birthday had a cake in our room with strawberries on it so if you have a food allergy pay close attention to anything you eat because they won’t !!!!! So my review of this resort and the Dominican republic I wouldn’t send my worst enemy to this resort or the Dominican Republic go somewhere else in the Carribiean

I had high hopes for this stay as it had good reviews, so I was excited to celebrate my boyfriend's 30th birthday here. Unfortunately, the service and food were terrible. It doesn't seem like the staff is being treated well because they were all in terrible moods, pretty rude when you asked questions, and overall just seemed like they hated their jobs. The breakfast and lunch have the same options every day and there is only one option. The dinner buffet and Muoi were also not good. Mar de Sal, one of the restaurants that you have to make reservations at, was pretty good. The resort is very spread out. We got lucky and stayed by the beach, but otherwise it's a ~15 min walk from the beach to the lobby. The breakfast/lunch buffet are by the beach but the dinner spots are by the lobby, so wherever you stay, plan on traveling to the other end of the resort at least once a day. Their hotel cards also don't work very well so we had to go to the other end of the resort to get our room key reactivated every day. While I was there, I ordered a piña colada in a pineapple which cost extra. The signs by the pool said it cost $10 USD or 2,000 Melia Rewards points. When I checked out, they told me they had never heard of this deal and I had to find another staff member who did know about the deal. They then told me that 2,000 points is only worth $8 USD and that I had to pay the difference. The sign clearly said it was either $10 or 2,000 points and we went back and forth for a bit before they finally scanned my card. Even if 2,000 points had only amounted to $8, I think it's a little ridiculous to try that hard to get me to pay $2 extra after an already expensive stay. We stayed here for 4 nights and the beach and pool area are beautiful, but it's not enough to outweigh the cons. I would not recommend staying here.

Juan adbricoles Was amazing. He was always available and able to help with any needs. He help with transportation to and from the room anytime of the day. He helped with arranging all reservation for dinner and sent dinner reminders if needed. If you travels to this resort ask for Juan adbricoles. I would rate him a 5 star.

I just got back from a trip at the Melia Punta Cana Wellness all inclusive resort. I wanted to wait until I got back to do this review so that I could write it with a clear head, using the notes I took while I was there. I'd like to start with the pros and then the cons after. So here we go. The pros. The first thing I can say is that the resort is beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. No matter where I went at the resort the staff was friendly, helpful, and always willing to take care of my needs. The swimming pool was usually clean and not filled with a lot of people. The water temperature was great and didn't feel over chlorinated. The beach was beautiful, white sand, with blue ocean water. The water temperature was fantastic. Some seaweed, but not a ton. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the buffets were really good. For my girlfriend and I who are mostly vegetarian, there was always an option for us to eat something vegetarian, vegan, or pescatarian. The coffee at the various bars when made from the espresso machines were really good. They almost always had almond milk for me since I don't drink animal milk. There was always a bar serving alcoholic beverages pretty much anywhere we went. The golf carts passed by every 10 minutes to take us to and from the lobby area to the pool and beach area. Even if you didn't catch one at the stops, they would pick you up wherever you were walking. There were peacocks, ducks, turtles and other animals throughout the resort. it was kind of cool. As a wellness resort, they had mostly wellness activities such as yoga, meditation, aqua aerobics, dance and Zumba classes, and other exercise type classes. At night they had bands performing, dancers doing choreographed shows, acrobatics, and of course a nightclub and karaoke. The rooms were very clean, modern, and comfortable. The minibar was always full of snacks and drinks. The bathroom was always clean and full of towels and toiletries. I tipped everyone for everything, at least $1, but usually $2, and for dinners, cleaning, etc. more. But I noticed noone tipped for anything anywhere. My girlfriend and I were shocked that we were the only ones tipping. What's an extra $100 in dollar bills (and two dollar bills) after spending $3,000? It made the staff so happy to get tips from us, and we noticed that we got special treatment, good seating, quicker service, not having to order my special coffee (she knew what I wanted), as well as extras in our room every day, etc. Now for the cons. I noticed people either getting lost, frustrated, or upset at certain things at the resort. But they could not speak Spanish. I happen to speak fluent Spanish and I believe that is why I had such a good time. Speaking Spanish to the staff got me a lot of information early on, as well as super good service because I was able to charm them. Although the swimming pool and beach were beautiful, people "reserved" all of the beach chairs and pool chairs with their towels. My girlfriend and I noticed that these people were not at their chairs for hours on end. This was very frustrating. Especially because we did want to be at the beach all day, most days. The staff does not remove the towels and does not police this. So at some point we decided to just do the same thing and "reserve" a nice part of the beach that had a hut, early in the morning with our towels. And that seemed to do the trick. It really wasn't great but we didn't have a choice. Unfortunately we couldn't really bother with the pool area because no one ever removed their towels. So we pretty much stayed on the beach. But we preferred the beach anyway. As for the beach, the sand fleas completely devoured us. First they got my girlfriend pretty good because she couldn't stop itching her ankles and legs. So we went to the gift shop and thankfully they had hydrocortisone cream which she kept using. About two days later they finally started biting me. It was horrible. Red bumps and bites all over my ankles, feet and legs. The hydrocortisone cream saved me. I'm home now and mostly healed but I still have red bumps everywhere. The food. This was my biggest gripe. As I mentioned the buffets were good. Breakfast (7am to 11am) was not a problem. Lunch (12:30pm to 3:30pm) was equally not a problem. But dinner was a real problem for us. As people who eat earlier in the day because of intermittent fasting, we typically like to eat dinner anywhere between 4 PM and 5 PM, 6 PM at the absolute latest. We usually end up eating dinner back home around 4:30 PM. Dinner didn't even start here until 6:30 PM. Which put us in a really difficult situation, because we were always starving by then. One night we decided to reserve one of the restaurants (Mar de Sal) for dinner at 6:30 PM just to try something besides the buffet. It was a huge mistake. We were starving of course, and they kept trying to get us to drink alcohol first. By the time we even got an appetizer it was 7:15 PM. By the time we got our entrée it was closer to 7:45 PM. The service was very slow, and the guy who was serving us was really rude when I asked him questions. We didn't even stay for dessert. Instead we left after eating our subpar entrée and walked to the buffet to eat food and dessert there. Thank God for the Serendipia and Mosaico buffets, they are just fantastic. There's no need for the restaurants. As a matter of fact we had reservations for Muoi (Vietnamese), and Calathea (International) for the next two nights, but never showed up, and just stuck with the buffet after the poor experience at Mar de Sal. By the lobby area are the rooms for the base package. There are these little swampy lakes all around the rooms where most of the animals are. And boy did it smell like poop. People made jokes about it all the time as we drove by with the golf carts. It did not smell great. Luckily when we arrived and checked in, the guy at the front desk asked if we wanted to upgrade to premium suites which put us right by the pool and beach area on the complete opposite side of the resort. For $300 total we upgraded gladly, and realized that it was a good decision because of the poop swamps. We would've been stuck living by the poop. Plus we would've had to keep taking the golf cart trams back and forth all day long rather than simply walking to and from our room, which only took a minute or two to get to the beach, pool, restaurants, and activities. So definitely get at least a "premium" room. We didn't bother to upgrade to "The Level", and not sure it really would've been worth it from what we were able to see. Someone we met there upgraded to The Level, and from what she told us, it didn't sound like she got much more than we did. As for the activities, we did do a handful of them. One morning we did yoga although it was super intense, not very beginner friendly. One day we did a sound healing meditation that was beautiful but it was moved from the original lobby area because of some stupid Goodyear / Winners Circle group that basically took over the hotel and we had to do the sound healing meditation by a noisy street where traffic kept driving by and that kind of ruined the experience. We also wanted to do a really fun painting meditation activity that was also supposed to be in the lobby area but got moved to the beach which was really hot and not as good as it should've been because of that. So the hotel needs to be better at double booking things and moving activities around because a few people weren't even able to make it to some of these activities because they couldn't find them in the first place. Especially after moving them. Which brings me to probably the biggest problem. It was really hard to figure out where certain things were, and what time they started. They did not update their website enough, they didn't have an app that worked, the map was not extremely clear, and if you asked the staff where certain things were, most of them didn't know. They had to call people and try to figure it out. So this was something that was pretty frustrating. There were not enough activities or any activities at all between the hours of 12 PM and 9 PM. These were the hours that we really wanted something to do. We even saw on the website where we bought our package that they had bicycles that we could use. But nobody at the resort said that there were any bicycles even though we tried many times. And we never saw any bicycles anywhere. So that was a big problem. All we were able to do was either go to the pool, go to the beach, or do one of these exercise routines that we really didn't want to do because we were trying to relax and do fun, simple activities. The nighttime activities didn't start until roughly 9 PM or 10 PM. By then we were half asleep. There was nothing to do after dinner. All we could do was sit around in the lobby and order drinks and just sit there. It was pretty boring although we were happy to be on vacation and made do. So we would just talk to people, talk to the staff, keep ourselves busy with food and drinks, and trying to find activities that fit our needs. If they had simply put all of the nighttime activities and shows earlier in the night, say 7 PM to 10 PM that would've been absolutely perfect. Most people who we talked to said the same exact thing, that they just couldn't stay awake long enough to see these shows. One or two nights we fought hard to stay awake after 10 PM in the lobby to watch acrobatics, or a dance and singing show, only to almost fall asleep on the sofas. Also, they didn't have many activities indoors. Most of them were outdoors which was hot and humid with plenety of bugs biting us nonstop. Imagine being in the sun at the pool or beach all day and then coming back to your room to take showers and get dressed to go to an activity or a show hoping it would be air-conditioned so that you could finally enjoy yourself a bit. But that was not the case. Everything was always outdoors, so even after taking a shower you ended up getting sweaty and sticky again and getting bit up by bugs. There are other things that bothered us such as people smoking cigarettes and cigars everywhere, and my girlfriend is allergic to that kind of smoke. The mini bar not having healthy snacks. Not having mineral water anywhere. Vendors bothering us on the beach. And the waiters always asking us if we want to buy alcohol when they know that we don't want alcohol. But I think the biggest thing that left a bad taste in our mouth was on our last day there. On our second to last day, two concierges (one new female staff member, and a male experienced staff member) came up to us after breakfast asking us how our stay was. I was honest and told them of the good things and the bad things. The guy, Enveque, said that he would like to show us how we can get a better deal by booking directly through Melia versus through Apple vacations (which is where we booked our package from). My girlfriend then asked if it was a timeshare situation. And he said no it's not a timeshare. Simply a way to book the package directly through their resort versus a third-party. So we agreed to go with him. The next morning on our last day he knocked on our door early in the morning to take us to breakfast. So we went with him thinking we were going to breakfast. Instead he took us to the lobby of a restaurant at the resort next door to talk to a representative. Again we asked him if this was something to do with a timeshare. It seemed like it might be after he explained more to me, saying something about a presentation. We said we weren't interested in that. He said no no no it's not a timeshare and in exchange I will give you guys each a free massage at the spa. A massage was $190 roughly for both of us so we decided to deal with the presentation. But we were hungry. We kept asking when we would eat breakfast. So finally a representative came to us and she took us in a golf cart to a different part of the resort yet again, to eat breakfast. Now this resort had kids. Melia wellness is adults only so there were no kids. But in this one where she took us there were kids yelling everywhere. She took us to a restaurant that was overly packed and had a long line. She knew we were hungry because we kept saying we were and she took us to another resort restaurant. It was equally as busy with kids but at this point we didn't have a choice. We ended up just waiting in different lines to get food and didn't eat until 10 AM when we were used to eating between 8 and 9 AM. And the food was horrible. Then we had to listen to her sales presentation. It was long-winded all about different discounts that we would be able to get by booking through them directly. But she would never give me any prices as to what the membership would cost per year to have Melia rewards. Even though I kept asking her. The discounts seemed very hefty and we were definitely interested in those discounts being that we paid almost $3300 for our trip and she said we would've ended up paying $1000 for the trip. So obviously it's a big savings. Finally she took us back to the resort to talk to her boss. After squeezing it out of her she finally gave me a price. $15,000 for 15 years. $1000 per trip for 15 years. Although it sounds like a great deal. It means we would have to use the Melia resorts or hotels, and we would have to pay $15,000 upfront. So we politely declined and finally went to our regular breakfast buffet to get more food because we were still hungry. At this point we just went to lay on the beach because the 2 hours we lost, hungry, tired, and frustrated dealing with this presentation situation really put a damper on things. So just say no if they ask if you want to meet with their representatives to save money, unless you're fine with everything I just said above. I know this is a very long review, but I wanted to make sure it was thorough, well thought out, and included as many details as possible. Because I wish I had read a review like this about Melia ahead of time so that I could've at least prepared. It doesn't mean I wouldn't have gone, I probably still would've gone, but I probably would've prepared myself a bit more. Here's what I might've done to prepare myself. I would've brought flotation devices because they don't have them there and my girlfriend really wanted them. I would've possibly brought a large beach towel for the days that we couldn't get seats on the beach. I most likely would've brought ample healthy snacks or even protein powder to keep me going in between lunch and dinner when I was starving. I definitely would've brought an HDMI cable to connect my iPad to the TV since they don't have smart TVs there. This way we could've watched movies whenever we wanted to. There was nothing to watch on TV. And since like I said, we couldn't do activities at night mostly we ended up just laying in bed watching TV. There were only like two channels with really bad movies. I would've brought more protection against bugs. Bug spray, hydrocortisone, maybe more. I would've brought different clothing and shoes. I would've brought more things to keep us entertained. Maybe some games, books, board games, anything. I probably would've pre-planned more excursions and more things off the resort. We only ended up doing this Dr. Fish Ocean Adventures excursion where we got a fish pedicure (wish I had known how bad these were before doing it and I regretted it after my dad sent me an article about how dirty and exploitative these are - never again), a massage, exfoliation, yoga, foot ion bath, floating / swimming in the ocean, dinner with dolphins (captive and I felt horrible), then a trip home where I got sea sick. The tour guide Pedro was awesome to talk to and he kept things positive. But to be honest the first hour and a half was a lot of waiting around. I hate that. When you're on vacation you don't have a lot of time to waste. Also the food was chicken, and we don't eat that, so we only had rice and salad, once again leaving us hungry. The problem is these excursions are expensive. We paid $340. You can't do that every day. If I knew now what I found out, I probably would've just went parasailing and called it a day instead of going on the excursion. It was just too much waiting for things, and I would've skipped the fish pedicure, the food, the foot ion bath, and probably the yoga (as it was difficult to do and made me sore after the massage which kind of defeats the purpose). I would've liked to just do the massage, exfoliation, and floating / swimming in the ocean, and that's it. I would've paid $100 for that easily. So next time we will probably just do cheaper excursions or activities like parasailing. Although Melia Punta Cana Wellness was fun and a nice break from work, it came with a lot of downsides that made me miss home after the third day. Then realizing we had to go through two more days of it. You can never predict if it's going to be short enough or long enough for your vacation. In this case it was too long. But hindsight is 2020. Hopefully my hindsight will help you plan your vacation better!

Dear SebastianaU9120DS, We would like to thank you for this review about your recent experience with us. We're delighted to hear that you found our resort beautiful and well-maintained, appreciated the friendly service of our staff, and enjoyed the serene pool and beach environment. Your gastronomic experiences at our buffets, offering vegetarian, vegan, and pescatarian options, seem to have been a highlight, and we're glad that our coffee selection met your expectations. It's also wonderful to know that our room experience, with its cleanliness and amenities, added comfort to your stay. We regret to hear about the aspects that did not meet your expectations. While our activities are designed to enhance wellness and relaxation, we understand the importance of a variety of entertainment options and are actively working to enrich our daytime and evening schedules. We're also addressing the challenge of 'reserved' beach chairs to ensure all guests have the opportunity to enjoy our beautiful beachfront. The situation with the sand fleas is one we monitor closely and recommend guests use repellent when enjoying the beach. We apologize for any inconvenience caused during your dining experience at Mar de Sal and will be revisiting our service culture to ensure all guests receive prompt and courteous attention. Your feedback on the sales presentation experience is invaluable, and we will ensure clearer communication in the future to avoid any misunderstandings. We look forward to seeing you again in the future. Kindest regards, Derryl D'costa Hotel Manager Melia Punta Cana Beach A Wellness Inclusive Resort | Adults Only

Juan adbricoles and jose minaya were the best! Went above and beyond for us. Everything was also very clean at Melia from the grounds to the rooms and restaurants. Noise levels were very low and the overall environment was relaxed. Would definitely return.
