Ideal guesthouse for a stay in Lhoknga. Few mins walk to the beach, clean rooms, friendly staff and always a really nice vibe among the guests. The cafe serves great coffee (grown in Aceh, best in Indo) and tasty food (incl vegetarian menu thanks Yudi!). Will be back for sure.

3 of us stayed in a room that was super clean, put up a hammock and watched the world go by.

Staff were friendly and the food was great.

Very laid back atmosphere for surfers and families alike. The perfect end to our holiday.

Had a well chilled stay with Yudi & family!
Four of us stayed for 2 weeks in Feb.
Lovely location & choice of rooms. Very good food available on site.
Fab modern en-suite rooms kept spotless, lovely relaxing gardens & a short walk to the surf beach. The wi fi was super strong & reached all the rooms.
Would love to return one day!

Very cool and friendly host/staff! Delicious food in the restaurant of the guesthouse. Rooms are clean and big. No animals or bugs in the rooms. Only a 5min walk to the beach/surfspot. Definitely recommend staying here! Anything else you need…Yudi will fix it for you 😉

One of the best stays in a 3 months indo trip. Yudi is THE BEST host, the place is great, awesome vibe, super clean, excellent cafe and food, super lovely staff… all just a couple of mins walk to the beach and all for a very reasonable price. They make you feel like you’re at home, staying with mates here. Can’t fault it, unquestionably the place to be in Lhoknga. ✌🏽

The best hospitality and stay in 3 months in indo. Rooms are super clean and well set-up, the cafe food/coffee is great, the staff are amazing, and the prices are very reasonable. It's just a few mins walk to the surf.. undoubtably the place to stay in Lhoknga!

It was my 2nd time staying at Yudi's place. The room is spacious, bed and pillows are comfy. It almost feels like home staying at his place. The location is walking distance from Lhoknga Beach, ain't that far. Food is great, freshly prepared! They clean the room everyday. All the staffs are very helpful and friendly.

I'm not happy about doing this because the people were nice but the service was non-existent. Yudi was away so maybe that was reason BUT cafe was only open once in 5 days, no cleaning of rooms until all the guests asked, no sweeping of veranda, no new sheets in days, no new towels, etc. Given that there are plenty of options, this was a total disappointment.

Even when Yudi is there, we were surprised at the bad usage of space. Garden was not kept well, no hammocks (surf resort??), the bale was not cleaned and truly usable, and really no comfortable places to relax, mingle, read, etc. This is a surf resort in Aceh, theres nothing to do but surf and chill at your guesthouse. It has so much potential but was truly disappointing.

We saw several nice places, some with beautiful bamboo structures with hammocks and areas to relax. We were too lazy to move but I'd suggest arriving and seeing the places before deciding on where to stay.

Yudi, I hope you take this as constructive. The place has potential and the staff was nice but not much else for our experience.

Response from YudisPlace2013, Owner at Yudis Place
Responded 23 Apr 2016
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking time to write your review. We are very sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. As you are probably aware, we are a small family-run business and work hard to ensure our guests enjoy their time with us and are pleased that most of our reviews are positive and that the majority of our guests return. I was absent during your visit, because me and my wife have just had another baby, though we were keen to keep Yudi’s Place open so that our local staff could stay employed. We pride ourselves on cleanliness and strive to ensure that Yudi’s Place is clean and comfortable. Having received your complaint, we spoke with our other guests and it would appear that yours was the only room omitted from the cleaning rota, for which we apologise- all the other guests we spoke to were satisfied with the cleaning service provided, which, because we are a small operation, includes full cleaning and changing of sheets and towels, every 3 days. If guests require a more frequent cleaning service, this of course can be arrange on request. We would like to point out however that we are not a surf resort and apologise for any misconception that we are a resort. We have no desire to be a resort and favour providing a friendly and personal experience for our guests, most of whom appreciate the simplicity and fuss free atmosphere of Yudi’s Place. We are pleased that you found the Yudi’s Place team to be friendly. To respond to your comment that there was nothing to do but ‘surf and chill’, most of our guests would appear to enjoy ‘surfing and chilling’, and return time and time again to stay with us, to do just that. If guests wish information about what to do and things to see in the local area, we happily provide information, along with arranging trips to various areas of interest including surf trips to alternative spots and city tours. It’s unfortunate that we were forced to close the café for 2 days over the course of your stay – this was unavoidable. We hope you enjoyed some of the other places to eat in the village however. We hope too that your time at Yudi’s Place didn’t affect your experience of the area and that you return again to enjoy all that Aceh has to offer.

We had a very nice stay at Yudi's. The rooms were in really good shape; nice and clean.

People were all really friendly and also the atmosphere among the guests was really nice and relaxed.

The place is very close to the beach. A surf and kitesurf center is Kind of included. So if you're here for surfing or kitesurfing you're very well taken care of and feel like in a little Family with all comfort you need.

As the place is a little further from the village the full board, which Yudi offers, may be a good idea.
We enjoyed it, and it was really nice that Lunch was brought to the beach. So you could spend more time surfing.

We would definitely come back if we would stay again in the area. It was a real pleasure to be here.

I had submitted a review earlier on Yudis but it appears to have gone astray so here goes again.
We really liked the look of this place online, the top of the range bungalows looked great and we decided to book two stays on our tour of Indonesia one of four nights and the other five, we were so disappointed on the first stay that we didnt come back for a second.
To explain, when we arrived we were shown to our room, it was filthy dirty and there was a dead beetle in the middle of the floor, there were several cobwebs in the bathroom, across the taps etc so it was quite obvious that it hadnt been cleaned.
Although we were six weeks in to the kiteboarding season there was noisy building work taking place in the grounds.
We went downstairs and decided to have a cappucino as all sorts of fresh coffee were advertised on the cafe's board. 'No coffee' we were told, we then enquired about one of the advertised tourist trips and none were available. Great!
We had a day at the beach kiteboarding, this is advertised on Yudi's website as being on a wide lagoon, this is not so, the lagoon is in fact quite narrow with strong currents and in my view it is not a particularly good location for kiteboarding.
On our return for our evening meal we were given a one course meal which although tasty wasnt really enough especially having kitesurfed most of the day. Beers came in at £2 for a very small can which worked out more expensive than Singapore, one of the priciest places in Asia. Apparently alcohol is forbidden in this part of the world and it has to be smuggled in on the black market.
Yudi was never about, we did bump in to him once in a restaurant with a young lady in Banda Aceh but we hardly ever saw him otherwise. However on the second day I complained to Maurice at the kite school who brokered a meeting with him so that we could air our concerns. Subsequently our room was cleaned and we were able to get refreshments such as coffee, we were also given a dessert that each night consisted of water melon dumped unceremoniously on the table so at least things improved a bit. We had also been woken early that morning by the building and Yudi said that he would get that started later. Whilst this was fine, the place should have been up and running properly as we were well in to the season.
I understand that a reason for the this might well have been the absence of Yudi's wife who had gone home to Scotland to have a baby. Apparently she is far more fasitidious in looking after the guests so bad luck on us.
Also in the evenings we were for the most part just left to ourselves so we couldnt get a drink even if we wanted one. On the occasions that staff were present they would spend their time lounging on the sofas and chairs that were obviously there for the guests texting and watching videos on their phones.
We made a mistake in going here during Ramadan, this was not the establishments fault but unless you want to immerse yourself in a true cultural experience avoid it like the plague. Normally in a Muslim country you will be awoken by the early prayer call which is quite atmospheric and you normally drift back off to sleep, no problem. In Ramadan in this staunchly muslim part of the world the several mosques in the area blast out amplified prayers all night until around 4.30 am, we lost about three nights sleep as a result using earplugs will not make any difference at all it's so loud, so you have been warned, check the Ramadan dates when booking! I do feel however that Yudi should advise guests accordingly on Ramadan and what it entails locally as potential guests can then choose whether or not to book during that period, but I suppose thats business and once they've got you there there's little you can do.
There is also nothing to do here in the evenings apart from sit around, talk and surf the internet which may suit some however love my wife as I do after a while it would be nice to have some form of distraction, there is no tv, little if anything in the way of music and nothing at all in the area so if you are looking for an extremely quiet existence (until the amplifed prayers start if in Ramadan) you'll be OK. There is also no alcohol available apart from the very weak tasteless beer at £2 a can so bring duty free if you like a tipple in the evenings. Outside the people are generally friendly however my wife did encounter some hostile looks particularly from men although her shoulders and legs were covered, when she put on a headscarf all was suddenly fine so women will need to consider this as its not westernised at all in terms of culture. You will be ok with a bikini on the beach though. You can hire a scooter and go further afield and there are a few nice spots but many of the beaches are polluted with plastic, used tampons etc etc. The local beach is OK as its cleaned every few days by Jo from the kite school.
Having stayed at several establishments in and around Sumatra I would like to offer some advice to Yudi and his wife and suggest that they take a trip over to Sabang and stay at Freddies Santai at Samur Tiga to see how they put the guest first properly. We had the most fantastic stay there. The lasting impression we had of Yudi's was of a chap who appeared to be far more interested in other activities that seemed to keep him away from his guesthouse and trying to get away with doing as little as possible to ensure his guests had a happy stay, this attitude permeated throughout his staff. He is a surfer and no doubt in the surfing season he is about more to cater for his guests, however he is trying to branch in to the kitesurfing market without putting any real time and effort in. To improve he must ensure that rooms are clean for the guests, that whats advertised is available and that building work is completed before the arrival of guests as there is a decent gap time wise between the surfing and kitesurfing seasons.
On the plus side I would say that the food we did have was very good including the lunches brought to the kite beach and the air conditioning in our room was good, otherwise I would have given a 'terrible rating'.
