The best thing about Kalypso is its location - between gorgeous sea and high mountains.
The hotel itself needs a bit of work - our room was alright, but the bathroom had a strong mildew smell.

As other reviewers have stated unless you are content relaxing around a pool all day you must have a hire car as this place is a fair distance from anywhere and it's a reasonably tough 45 minute mountainous walk to the closest town, Plakias. The...More
Deciding to come to the Kalypso, we read the reviews on Tripadvisor and realized that the hotel is not new. However the perfect setting on the ruggid rocks of the south shore of Crete, makes this hotel for nature lovers an excellent choice.
Kalypso is in a beautiful location, and it's Ultra All-Inclusive package was priced too attractively to pass up. While the area is very far from the airport, that would be the largest negative attribute I would mention about the hotel. Most of the staff was...More
This place is very unique. Tucked between a mountain and sea, away from Plakias is hard to find at first but when you eventually do it looks amazing. When you drive down a narrow road you see a village type hotel complex with swimming pools...More

Oh dear I was not asking about all inclusive but ultra all inclusive they don't do this currently! As for all inclusive not being worth it you can drink from 1030 to 2230 yes at some times there's a bit of a queue but how long do you want to drink for. As with most all inclusive packages it covers local brands only. You can get half price cocktails between 1830 and 1930 this place was a total gem! When you say strictly controlled I assume you mean people trying to get several drinks at once or at 2230 I thought this fair enough kept the queue going. All barman are friendly and work really hard they made our holiday. All inclusive included as much as you can eat breakfast lunch dinner plus snacks toast ice cream by the pool we were well satisfied with what we paid
