We stayed for 3 nights and regretted, that we had not booked a longer stay at Oudrif. NO cellphone reception, NO internet, NO TV! Therefor lots of unspoilt nature, peace and tranquility. Wonderfully decorated, clean and comfortable little houses with all amenities one needs (books, magazines, hot water, homemade soaps and body lotion), beautyful views into the valley. Ample of...

If you are looking for a peaceful escape from the ratrace and the madness that comes with modern life, Oudrif is the perfect place. No cell phones to interrupt the songs of wild birds. No tv to dull the brightness of the stars. Your hosts Jeanine and Bill will make you feel right at home. The food is excellent, plentiful...

No internet, cell phone or TV - just peace and relaxation in a delightful setting near the river with delicious food, superb hosts and very comfortable accommodation. What more do you need? - oh yes, a couple of dogs to accompany you on your walks to the rock art or in your boat - wonderful!

My husband booked us into Oudrif last week for a stunning 4 night stay. It is a remote ecolodge with well appointed strawbale cottages and excellently clean amenities. My bug fetish was not realised here! There was also no internet or cellphone reception which was a wonderful change for us and, we realised afterwards, quite needed. Bill and Jeanine are...

We spent 39 blissful hours off the grid at Oudrif. Barefoot luxury, great food, enough to do if you want to hike, bike, explore and discover; abundant solitude if you need to recharge your batteries. An easy, scenic drive from Clanwilliam, well described (to the last rock) on their emailed "Directions" sheet. Entertaining dinner-time conversation and lots of laughter! Planning...

Oudrif is a tiny, beautiful ecolodge in the Cedarberg mountains. My husband and I just returned from a weekend there and are so pleased we went. One of the things that impressed us so much about our delightful hosts is how they "walk the talk". Both are passionate conservationists with a deep commitment and caring for animals and the environment....

I agree with other posts that this lodge has much appeal for those seeking an isolated and secluded location, and who enjoy close interaction with the hosts and other guests as is necessary at Oudrif. The lodge is rather remote and quite far from the attractions of the area, but one cannot fault it for its location. I however do...

We spent three nights at Ou Drif at the end of March. It is impossible to describe this place - it was just perfect. Bill and Jeanine were impressively knowledgeable about the land and archaeology not only immediately around the settlement, but also across the wider region. The chalet we stayed in was beautifully constructed, spotlessly clean and appointed; the...

Miles from anywhere, no electricity or telephone signal... a real break fro the modern world. So beautiful in the middle of this arid region, By the river, where swimming and boating is gorgeous. Jeanine and Bill were wonderful and so were the cats and dogs! Taking us for great walks and then giving us lovely food and drink. Overall I...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Heavenly Eco- Friendly straw bale cottages on the banks of the Doring River. A place to relax and unwind, stargaze and rinse the stress of the city in the pristine Doring River. In the Cedarberg, on the banks of the Doring River, Oudrif provides accommodation in stylish straw bale cottages, for people who relish peace and quiet and being close to nature. The pristine river provides ample opportunity for paddling, swimming, fishing and sun bathing on secluded beaches Every winter, the area has played host to the largest wild flower display in the world. Oudrif is situated on the unspoilt Doring River at the foothills of the Cedarberg in a transition zone between the Cedarberg, Karoo and Nama regions. This unique location has resulted in Oudrif being home to a stunning variety of fauna and flora, as well as a rich heritage of San rock art, Stone Age artefacts and fossils whose origins date back millions of years. Accommodation Oudrif provides accommodation in stylish straw bale cottages. The cottages are constructed using environmentally sound principles, including the use of timber from invasive trees, pre-used fittings and solar power for lights. In keeping with the overwhelming sense of peace at Oudrif, it was decided that if the experience was to be shared with others, preservation of the heritage of the area was imperative. Therefore accommodation on the farm is limited to a maximum of 10 people at any one time. This not only ensures the serene contentment visitors deserve, but also limits the impact that people have on the sensitive environment. Dining Cafe style, fusion food and drinks are served in the boma or dining area, all contained in an area that has been kept as natural as possible. All in all, a good time is guaranteed. Oudrif caters for special dietary requirements. ... more   less
