I shall echo what others have said - a special place run by special people. If you want tranquility, beauty, nourishment in mind and body, look no further. Bill and Jeanine have created something wonderful and unique. We loved our cabin, the spectacular views, the absolutely delicious food eaten communally, the guided trips to see rock art and learn about...

As always, staying with Bill and Jeanine Mitchell this long weekend was like staying with family members. Both our hosts are smart, well-informed, energetic people who have much more to share than accommodation! The food for a party of seven friends was quite simply delicious, catering efficiently and without fuss for the fact that three of the party were on...

We arrived late on the Friday evening, the hosts actually took the time to come and looked for us, they were amazing. The chalets were beautiful and clean, the food was great. Bill & Janine are both vegetarians, but it was not a problem to them to prepare meat for there guests. We loved every minute of our stay, they...

This is a special place run by special people. Far off the beaten track and yet not too far! The cabins are comfortable and kept spotless, the food is outstanding. In 3 nights there we had 21 different delicious side dishes to accompany our braai. Our hosts Bill and Jeanine were wonderful. It really can't bet better than this

One of our families best secrets on earth. We have stayed many times. Peace and quiet. Incredible river and walks. We love driving to out of town places so for us the drive is part of any worthwhile trip. And the hosts are more special than you could wish for. Love the place. And you stay in magical secluded cottages...

A bit of a haul to get there - especially as we could not hire a 4x4 - but well worth the drive. A magical couple of days. Even though not a great user of the internet/phone it was good to be out of contact with the world. Our cottage was very comfortable with a veranda. Meals are all together...

Stayed for our fourth consecutive year. A priority for us when we plan our holiday to SA. Have stayed in Sonkala cottage each time. Quiet with glorious views. Very warm this year and as river low we encountered mosquitoes for the first time. Ate out under the stars and enjoyed excellent food once again, beautifully prepared by Jeannine (Bill being...

We loved our time at Oudrif. It is quite a long journey on dirt road iwth several gates to get there so you need at least 2 nights to really enjoy it. It is peaceful and beautiful. Jeanine and Bill are helpful, kind and friendly. The cottages are very comfortable and cool during the day inspite of the searing heat...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Heavenly Eco- Friendly straw bale cottages on the banks of the Doring River. A place to relax and unwind, stargaze and rinse the stress of the city in the pristine Doring River. In the Cedarberg, on the banks of the Doring River, Oudrif provides accommodation in stylish straw bale cottages, for people who relish peace and quiet and being close to nature. The pristine river provides ample opportunity for paddling, swimming, fishing and sun bathing on secluded beaches Every winter, the area has played host to the largest wild flower display in the world. Oudrif is situated on the unspoilt Doring River at the foothills of the Cedarberg in a transition zone between the Cedarberg, Karoo and Nama regions. This unique location has resulted in Oudrif being home to a stunning variety of fauna and flora, as well as a rich heritage of San rock art, Stone Age artefacts and fossils whose origins date back millions of years. Accommodation Oudrif provides accommodation in stylish straw bale cottages. The cottages are constructed using environmentally sound principles, including the use of timber from invasive trees, pre-used fittings and solar power for lights. In keeping with the overwhelming sense of peace at Oudrif, it was decided that if the experience was to be shared with others, preservation of the heritage of the area was imperative. Therefore accommodation on the farm is limited to a maximum of 10 people at any one time. This not only ensures the serene contentment visitors deserve, but also limits the impact that people have on the sensitive environment. Dining Cafe style, fusion food and drinks are served in the boma or dining area, all contained in an area that has been kept as natural as possible. All in all, a good time is guaranteed. Oudrif caters for special dietary requirements. ... more   less
