this isn't really a hotel in traditional sense, some kind of historic club. Most definitely a very cool historic building but service was very poor. VERY rude lady at the front desk. rooms are very basic but charming in a strange way! Noisy area, loud construction site right next door. No a/c of course so windows need to be open...

I stayed at this historic hotel for business. I was attending the career fair at Berkeley, and this hotel is just a 5 minute walk from the main campus. The rooms are small and have "old world" charm. That being said, it is very clean. Breakfast is complimentary and it is served buffet style in a very elegant way in...

I rated the hotel as "average" because there are five star aspects....and one star ones. Those who want a swish hotel should stay elsewhere. Those who relish being in a Julia Morgan "castle" in the heart of Berkeley will love it. As the website says, the rooms are "modest". I stayed in two different rooms; the queen one was nice,...

We recently stayed at the Berkeley City Club along with other members of a wedding party. I was very impressed. The BCC is within easy walking distance of the UC campus as well as restaurants and shops in the Telegraph Ave area. The look and feel is classic elegance. While the regular rooms are a bit small, the views are...

Yes, it's a hotel. But it's really more of a state of mind. And it's clearly old - but in a Tony Bennett kind of way. In fact, that's the point. The room I stayed in was comfortable, but not impressive. There was no television, but the view toward the Golden Gate Bridge is spectacular. The windows open - all...

This is a beautiful old hotel with amazing public spaces. Has nice outdoor courtyard and rooftop space. Great location close to campus and within easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. Rooms have painted concrete floors with nice oriental style rugs. Bed was very comfortable, room and bathroom very clean. Bathrooms are original tile and fixtures but kept up. There...

Will not be returning. Hotel far from downtown, room had no AC and it was hot when I stayed. Had to keep windows open which made it hard to sleep with all the outside noise now I know why they provided ear plugs by the night stand. Sink had two separate faucets one for cold and the other hot made...

My daughter and I spent a lovely night here prior to visiting UC Berkeley. Quaint, historic hotel. We stayed in a room with a double and a twin which was perfect for us. A generous, complimentary breakfast was included in our rate!

This hotel is historic and has interesting architecture. It is also well-located for access to UC. However, my room was rather sparse; did not have internet; and had no air conditioning. This latter omission was particularly significant during my stay as there was a substantial construction project next to the hotel that required (owing to dust from the project) that...

The hotel is beautiful architecturally and has that old-school charm from the decor to the hotel staff. There is no t.v. in the room, but they do have a tv room. The room was super clean, but the bathroom was ancient. The hot water did not last very long so don't plan on taking a long shower. Staff was wonderful...

The Berkeley City Club was elaborately crafted by architect Julia Morgan. Carved archways, vaulted ceilings, an indoor mosaic tiled swimming, and leaded-glass windows overlooking lush courtyards give the building its unique old world charm. The Berkeley City Club boasts six floors of classically designed standard, junior suite and suite size hotel rooms. Experience breathtaking views from each room, whether its the iconic fog rolling in over the San Francisco bay or the beautiful sunrises over the Berkeley Hills. Enjoy complimentary breakfast, including fresh fruit, toast, bagels, pastries, hard-boiled eggs, oatmeal, yogurt and juice. For entertainment, check out special member events, fitness classes, theater performances, salon services, lounge hours and dining in the restaurant, Julia's or visit local Berkeley attractions just steps away from the Club. ... more   less
