The Sens hotel, they like to call it the French hotel, in Berkeley is in a great location. Tou can walk to so many places. The bistro attached to it is very good with well priced pastries. If you have ever been to France and stayed in a budget hotel you know they are not fancy, but that's what you...

Pervasive smell throughout of mildew and/or mold; rickety metal bedframe, thin mattress, rumpled sheets; no promised wifi in room; dirty, rusty, paint-peeling finish everywhere...in short, disgusting.

The staff is, indeed, friendly, my room was clean, and the bistro was great! The toilet needed a repair and the staff ignored me about this. Reaching into the tank to flush is not my idea of a working loo. The carpeting, a faded red, was actually worn through to the boards underneath; the same for the bathroom floor. The...

This hotel has so much potential to be a quaint little European style hotel. The location is in the heart of Berkeley with great restaurants nearby. Unfortunately it has not been been refurbished in the last ten years. The price is low but I would pay twice as much if it was upgraded to contemporary standards.

The French Hotel definitely needs a face lift. Despite its wear, the bathrooms and linens are clean. The big advantage of the hotel is its location - there is a bistro on the ground floor and several amazing restaurants right outside the door. It is an 8-10 block walk or short taxi ride to the BART so access to SFO...

A non-profit on whose board I sit made the reservation for me at this hotel. Had I known what it would be like, I would have stayed with my parents on the floor of their office, who live about 20 minutes away. It was like staying in a Catholic retreat center, except not one in a lush wooded area, and...

Great location in an area with many interesting places to eat. Parking lot from a grocery is on one side, however, you cannot park there. Hotel does not provide parking, so you have to use metered street parking.

We had to change rooms during our stay, due to the hotel's booking schedule, so we saw two rooms. The first was a bit nicer and bigger; but both needed a bit more maintenance. However, both were comfortable, and I felt it was a good value for the price. I believe you get a discount at the associated cafe, but...

Flat out, this place is pretty bad. Old key type room door greets you (two keys- one for dead bolt, one for door knob. Not labeled, so it's a 50/50 adventure every time) and once in the room my first thought was, "everywhere else was booked". Hard mattress that squeaked pretty loud when you moved. Kid you not, every time...

I have had many trips to Berkeley since my daughter is a student at UCal. My room was large with 2 queen beds Decor was a little dated but everything was functional. At the time of my visit Berkeley was unusually hot with a temperature of 85 degrees F. No air conditioning, however box fans were provided for guests if...
