Before raving about the hotel, must tell you Berkeley is a sad place to visit. There are so many homeless and the city is so past grubby it is almost indescribable. The hotel, however, is the antithesis. Elegant, clean, excellent service, welcoming communal spaces. Interior rooms very quiet. Rooms have Keurigs, bring your favorite coffee. What they provide is decent,...

Extremely convenient, just a few blocks from the west side of the UC Berkeley's beautiful campus, as well as many places to eat and see. The hotel itself is rather run-down, from its rickety, small elevator to its musty rooms (the 2nd floor especially exudes an unappealing smell, I think due to the fact that the fitness center is located...

This "first class hotel" is only pretty on the outside. The rooms were dirty, tired and in bad shape (broken lamp shades). And for over $300 I expected to have a closet - not an armoire with a few hangers, ironing board and iron, which fell on me when I opened it. And the hotel staff acted like they were...

> Room and bed were way too small for the price. > No usable lobby. > Everything else was far above average. > Your claim that the hotel was a block of two from U.C. Berkeley was grossly misleading. > Much improved since our first stay when BART was being built some 40 + years ago.

We booked two rooms with two different rates based on the room type, one larger than the other one. They gave the exact room for both reservations. Well that is not entirely truth, one of the first rooms the gave us the keys for was already occupied by someone else...yes they gave us a key to a room where someone...

The only drawback to the rooms at this hotel is that they are very dark at night, with insufficient lighting. They have a tiny light above the bed that is not adjustable, and the desk area has a tiny light that is focused on the work area, and is also insufficient. There is no general lighting, only these tiny focused...

Individual hotels go for ambience and charm; chain hotels strive for consistency. The Hotel Shattuck Plaza is one of the former, which I would tag as "upscale": not the St. Regis or Ritz-Carleton but nicer than a Hyatt or a Hilton. I've lost count of the number of times we've stayed here, somewhere in the 8-10 range I think. For...

We were given a wonderful room and received attentive services from al staff from the moment we arrived and all the way through our departure. We had wonderful views of san Francisco and the Golden gate Bridge. The location of the Hotel in Berkeley also is excellent. We will definitely return and strongly recommend the Hotel to others.

High quality place, good location (an easy walk up the hill to the Berkeley campus), extremely helpful staff, clean and in good condition. It is a little pricey and the rooms are not large, but over all, a positive experience.

this is a swanky business class hotel. Lovely lounge in the lobby and the rooms are comfortable and functional. The bed was great - clean, good amt of pillows and I slept great. I have a very early departure and the staff was friendly at 4am. That time of day, the commute to the airport was easy.
