A great mix of traditional Japan, with a hint of western comforts, in the dinning room you sit on chairs and not on the floor, most of the staff speak English which is a great help. The rooms are small but it's traditional Japanese with the bed on the floor, the pillow is also not to our likes but you...

We were travelling around Japan for three weeks without reservations and scored when we stayed at this Ryokan. One of the guidebook’s top recommended experiences is to hike along the old Nakasendo post road through a historic preservation area. The hike is a 7.8-kilometer hike from one historic town to another over a pass. Almost everyone hikes the trail one...

After visiting some very traditional ryokans previously on our trip we found this accommodation quite westernised. Full of tourists. Dinner was well presented and tasty but you sit at regular dining table rather than on the floor. Our room was sadly very small (we knew this upon booking -this was due to availability) and the corridors were busy and noisy...

We booked the last room. It was a small 6 mat room. Worked perfectly for us. We travel light, don't need a lot of space and having previously lived in Japan for many years we knew what to expect. Our initial emails were very attentively and professionally handled. Our welcome was friendly and sincere. The other ryokans we contacted in...

Very well run. Excellent, generous dinner with many dishes prepared with much care and using local produce. Neat and clean rooms with tea making facilities. Very courteous and friendly staff. The boss speaks Italian, Spanish. Friends with much experience of Japan said it is one of the best. A concession to Western ways in that you sit on chairs to...

Just wow! This Ryokan made our stay in Japan so good. We stayed one night and definitely was the best ryokan we stayed. From the time we stepped in the staff, were very nice and lovely. All staff speak perfect English and they helps a lot. The owner, Frank, is an amazing person, and he speak 3/4 languages. He spoke...

We stopped here when we visit Tsumago village. This restaurant has a nice location. The service and food is excellent. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very pleasant. They speak English very well and also has English Menu. I love the beef dish that is very tasety. The price is reasonable.

Delightful staff, roomy accomodation in a traditional ryokan set in lovely Japanese garden, and sense of place to the whole area, devine food of local kaiseki cuisine. Hot tub to relax in after a good days walk. Memories to cherish.

We had a one night stay at Fujioto. This ryokan has been around for several generations and we love the traditional feel about the place. The hosts were extremely hospitable and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Dinner was exceptionally good in terms of preparation and quality of food. We even learnt from them the Japanese...

Super nice Ryokan, with set dinner and set breakfast that was very tasty, most of the food was produced using local producers. The Ryokan was located in the small village Tsumago with classic Japanese old houses. Can varmly recomend this place. There was also a very nice hiking trails in the area.
