This resort is truly a unique experience. I have never seen such a breathtaking beach with near to no one swimming . The water is crystal clear and the view is stunning. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and I loved the bed. This resort isn’t new so if you want a flashy brand new 5 star experience this isn’t for you. For me and my partner we loved the old school charm and serenity of this place. The chefs table restaurant is outstanding and they try to make your experience perfect from the fresh towels to the complimentary bread, oil, vinegar and butter. The seafood at chefs table is so fresh and one of the best meals I had on the island. The Sands restaurants food is truly special with extra love given to all the local dishes. I would recommend ordering everything from the local section of the menu. The cocktails are so well priced and delicious, you can get a pre dinner aperol spritz for a bargain at 18 ringgit. The adults only pool is where I spent the most time and is pure luxury and serenity, we didn’t go to the other side as we don’t have children. The breakfast is simple but delicious and they even give complimentary sparkling wine with a live piano player who is extremely skilled. For anyone wanting to be fussed over with a brand new resort maybe look to other chain resorts but for me this resort stands out as a unique and special experience. Yes It is far away from the nightlife of Langkawi but we stayed 3 nights previously over the other side of the island to do the night activities before we arrived at Tanjung Rhu. Due to covid-19 pandemic all hotels in Langkawi are offering at very affordable price for Malaysian, including Tanjung Rhu Resort. Of course without some amenities such as pool, sauna, no buffet and etc, but that’s still an opportunity that should not be missed by all Malaysian to stay here. The price of f&b are also offered with extra %. The standard room size is bigger than most of 5 star hotels on the island and the beach is pristine with amazing sunset. Thanks to front office as well as f&b team especially Shafirah who helped me with the reservation. Just wish all the staff could maintain the warm hospitality and all the best.

We chose to stay here for a couple of nights in the beginning of our trip so we were closer to the Mangroves and got a great deal on Hotels.com. The site offered a free airport pick up and they were waiting for us upon arrival with the driver being wonderful and patient whilst we sorted ourselves out after landing. There was water in the car and was lovely and cool comfortable 20 minute drive. We were greeted upon arrival with our bags whisked away and had check in done in our wonderful room. I sadly cannot remember the lady who checked us in but she was so kind and great. We then went exploring around the resort which was on the quiet side due to the beginning of the COVID in/around Malaysia (although Langkawi had had one cleared case at this point) the views are absolutely breathtaking and every-time you pass a staff member they say hello. We are at the buffet one night and the Chefs Table (fancier restaurant) the second night. Both foods were delicious. I tried a white fish in what tasted like a white Thai sauce and it was fantastic - it was something I wouldn’t usually order and I’m glad I did as it was delicious! We also used the Spa and had a massage which we had at the same time and then a pedicure. Staff were polite and efficient and we were both very relaxed after. We spent the 2 nights at the Sports Bar where Reza and Anis were really engaging with us especially as the resort was quiet and it’s rare to have such a highly rated hotel where the staff actually super engaging with customers in case it “spoils the image” but this hotel has nailed it with them and the staff who worked the pool bar. It’s part of this reason it made it 5 * for us. They are very good at recognising who wants what level of engagement. We read reports on this hotel to say it’s expensive and couldn’t understand why until we went and stayed further south however we would still recommend and still return for a few nights if we visit again as it really has the wow factor and the ability to make you unwind which is what we wanted.

We have visited this resort 14 times (years) but there will not be a 15th.On previous occasions the staff have been very well trained, courteous and attentive and the service has been impeccable - but not anymore. Most of the staff are new, ill trained and have difficulty in understanding English. The service around the adult pool left much to be desired, with orders forgotten or incorrect, and dirty glasses and plates left by your sunbed for most of the day. When ordering drinks the staff could be found hiding behind the bar playing on their mobile phones. We dined in the Chef's Table Restaurant most evenings. On average a 3 course evening meal took 3 hours and on several occasions dirty plates remained on the table for 45 minutes before being cleared. On 3 occasions we were asked to pay for our evening meal even though we were all inclusive. The member of staff did not seem to understand what "all inclusive" meant. We were on the all inclusive basis which in the past has excluded alcohol and it was only on the day we left that we discovered by accident that all inclusive meant free flowing house wine by the glass and draught beer. We feel that this was very bad communication from the member of staff who took us to our room when we arrived. Our room was large, spotlessly clean and the bed linen was changed regularly, the only fault being the air conditioning was not adequate. The room temperature never fell below 25degrees and the bathroom area was even hotter! The view is to die for, pools are large and very clean and the beach is beautiful, but there is more to a 5 star hotel than just a view. There are very few sunbeds on the beach itself and one-third of these are without parasols. There was also a shortage of parasols around the adult's only pool. When we arrived they had two coaches of visitors from a cruise ship and not a sunbed vacant anywhere for hotel guests which is totally unacceptable. The hotel is advertised as an eco friendly resort with no motorised sports but to our amazement and annoyance small quad bikes were being ridden by guests along the beach causing fumes and noise pollution. We feel that in the last 2 years this hotel has really lost its identity and much work is needed by both staff and management to bring it back to its former 5 star glory i.e. PARADISE111

Located far end of the island, secluded and quiet. Suggest you grab your beers and snacks to stock up the fridge on your way in if you dont want to leave the place as its some 2km away from any mini marts. We had the family room. It was spacious and meet expectations. Same as the pictures posted on the web. The Mandara Spa is a sorry state. It has seen better days and after looking around the spa area I decided its not worth the money and time. The pool and beach are great. There's a snack shack and other stalls selling malay food and beach stuff and tours on the right of the hotel after the pool and beach activity station. The lady named Carol running the stall was friendly and very pleasant. She will make you a lovely homemade burger and fish & chips and charge you much less than the hotel prices. Great place to grab lunch.

I stayed at this resort in 2001 and this is now my 4th stay. Was impressed that the resort is still very well maintained with top notch customer service even though it is now under new management. I have always love this quiet location in Tanjung Rhu and happy to see that the resort has expanded to now having 3 swimming pools & Mandara Spa. The only improvement I would suggest is for Housekeeping to pay attention to the room amenities replenishment when a guest checks out and before new guest checks in. My room only has 2 bars of soaps and bottled toiletries. There was no shower caps, facial cotton, cotton buds, toothbrush, bedroom slippers etc and room was missing 1 drinking glass. Other suggestions : reduce single use plastic consumption by providing free water refills, water bottles for guests to refill drinking water, shower gel and shampoo dispensers in bathrooms and wine/bottle opener. We had to call for an opener every time we want to open a bottle of wine which is a hassle as it takes a while for staff to come by. Overall, a wonderful stay and I will be back again.

Fell in love with this commendable resort. Secluded in its own way; it offered (to my delight) a clean, soft-sand beach devoid of crowds.
Was impressed by the clean, well maintained, spacious and comfortable room that offered 2 balconies - one with a view of the beach and the other view of plants & greenery of the resort inside court. Ambience: Tradition with a hint of modernisation.
Delighted with the service staff and especially the ‘baywatch’ beach security who kept a watchful eye at all times.
Enjoyed the daily buffet breakfast and its encouraging that they are keeping to SOP by having hourly time slots for guests to ensure there was social distancing. Only realised on the third day that they do offer toast which can be ordered from the service staff.
Don’t miss enjoying the cool sea breeze as you watch the sunset whilst relishing on the local fare at the beachside Mamak cafe - Simply awesome.
Overall, it has been a most pleasant & enjoyable staycation. Already looking at our next stay at Tanjung Rhu.

Tanjung Rhu has quite a number of things going for it but in the same vein has some challenges that need to be faced in coming months! The beach is gorgeous, clean and well taken care of! It also has a wonderful sunset view which could be a selling point for any of the cafes/restaurants. It's a quiet resort and relatively isolated which is great for anyone choosing to run away from their hectic lives. Views are phenomenal from various perspectives. The wonderful human resources, friendly and trying to help but also in many cases young and in need more training to inculcate a culture of "delighting the customer" In many cases, they are young and unsure but still very sweet and kind. I believe these are both huge assets for the resort. Some of the misses including not having lifts to rooms on the higher floors which means stairs for both guests and staff with bags and heavy cutlery etc. Hence, the cleaning of in-room dining cutlery outside rooms can also take a couple of days. Perhaps even departments within the resort aren't speaking to each other. Also this resort may not be accessible for those with mobility issues or young kids. Bed linen is not changed unless expressly requested. Large groups may find it challenging to be seated at the breakfast area leaving us in an isolated area away from the view. Floor boards made of wood on the deck in the rooms need to be replaced carefully. Some of it could cause accidents if you're not careful when walking in these areas. Breakfast stations are sometimes not manned at the time when breakfast is to be served resulting in guests having to wait around for their favourit breakfast item.
In addition, this resort is Work in Progress! There is a block of rooms that's been boarded so it may ruin the aesthetic but it should not bother the regular guest! It's just something that the management are working on. So you'll hear some rumblings in reviews but honestly it doesn't affect you on a daily basis or impede your stay in any way!
I look forward to positive updates with attention to both the "hardware" and "software" at Tanjung Rhu Resort because this resort is truly a diamond in the rough and has so much to offer both local and foreign tourists!

Location (5/5): Easy drive from the airport. Not too secluded. Hotel (4/5): Was previously built as an apartment block, but converted to a hotel. Some parts of the buildings were half completed, making it look strange. Room (5/5): Very well maintained. Very well designed, with bathroom facing the window overlooking the garden. Amenities (3/5): Not much. The pool is well designed with natural sandy surface. Second time staying here and I have mixed feelings. It was my birthday trip and I convinced my husband that I want to stay here instead of Westin. Sadly I was a little disappointed this time around. First the good thing they did was I had my flight rescheduled earlier by the airlines and the hotel worked hard to give us the room earlier than the usual check in time which we both greatly appreciate as we were exhausted from traveling. They are also kind enough to arrange the room on the ground floor as requested and even provided us cake and a wine bottle for the birthday celebration that was really a kind gesture. The room really has signs of ageing and the sofa was dusty. The front desk I'm not sure of his name Aniq maybe, he gave us a really good service. The most disappointing part of our trip is definitely from the Sands restaurant. We had our lunch on our first day, we were served with raw chicken. We ordered nasi lemak and the chicken was served raw inside. We sent back to the kitchen they did refry it and that makes the chicken hard. No restaurant should serve raw poultry as it's not safe and we waited for the food quite long. And breakfast, sadly it's one of the most tasteless breakfast spread we have had. There was no love put into the food which we understand it's Ramadan but there are other guest too it's really frustrating to have such breakfast. And the waiters at the Sands restaurant is not attentive at all. They rather sit in each corner and chit chat instead of clearing the plates that attracts alot of flies to the table. I hated the breakfast part of the hotel and the food in general. Moreover more than half of the hotel is undergoing renovations and my block only few rooms are available and the others are closed with some plywoods that gives the creepy feeling. Its so sad because the hotel is located on a beautiful beach and the view is amazing on the beach however of there is no effort is upgrading their current service I believe they are not gonna have returning customers.
